  • On 12/6/23 around 11:45 AM PST, 911 dispatchers received calls regarding an active shooter. Multiple agencies responded to the campus and received more reports of shots fired at another area of the campus. University alert sent out a notification and told students and staff to evacuate certain areas and others to hide and lockdown. Officers encountered a suspect and quickly neutralized the threat. Multiple reports continued to come in and more officers and SWAT teams were requested. Multiple victims were found wounded and some deceased. Multiple agencies continued to deploy and respond to the campus and secure the area. Federal agencies also activated and responded.
My condolences go out to the victims and families of this incident. Please keep them in your prayers.

As a retired police officer, I feel qualified to comment, here, that the traffic officers did a horrible job of keeping this intersection cleared for emergency traffic.
I know it was an immense emergency vehicle response, and there was heavy civilian traffic, but, still.

Citizens still have to learn how to behave correctly in traffic and to make room when the police or fire brigade come with sirens and want to form an emergency lane. Here in Germany, the fine for not forming an emergency lane can cost 200 euros for repeat offenders up to a prison sentence Dear drivers, always give the police and fire and rescue services room to look after you on the road. Every life can depend on how quickly police and emergency services can arrive on site in an emergency

This is the tragic shooting that occurred on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. the suspect was a former college professor in his 60s who opened fire on the fourth floor of Beam Hall, a building on campus, and then continued to multiple floors before being shot dead by police outside the building. Three people were killed and another was injured in the shooting. The motive for the attack is still unknown. This was the deadliest campus shooting in the US since the Virginia Tech massacre in 2007.
I am deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence and I hope that the survivors and the families of the victims can find some peace and healing. I also commend the brave actions of the police officers and the emergency responders who risked their lives to stop the shooter and save others. 🙏

I get the level of response but it does seem like a rather excessive amount of units and always seems to be the case in the US. At some point it will hinder the ability to stay organised and there is a point where most of them will not be able to do anything helpful. Not to mention spread out the resources for the rest of the city for other incidents. Especially when they know the threat is down but still send an additional 100 vehicles to the scene (on top of the hundreds of officers already on scene) which no other country ever does for such incidents. The US really is the king of police and armed response quantities. But forever grateful for what they do, and RIP to the victims.

Ever inch of this school needs to be checked for evidence and victims or people in hiding. When they say secure the scene that means every person and every inch until it is verified not needed. This takes lots of staff. Many of the people have different functions to make this a successful investigation. They only get one chance to get it right so missing anything isn't an option. In addition to logistics they need to verify any possible witnesses and get statements and of each. This is an extremely challenging so I assure you even though some think they robbed all officers from the region many of the vehicle responding are off duity called in and specialty units for certain functions.@@PrograError

Anthony Polito, age 67, was denied a job position at the university, so he showed up with a gun and started blasting. He killed 3 professors and wounded a 4th victim. National Guard is more of a recovery agency. Their specialty is national disasters and civil unrest, not mass shootings. They answer to the state. Mass shootings are more of a local municipality problem. Most guardies go their whole career without ever firing a shot while deployed. SWAT and law enforcement on the other hand are trained to shoot, and more of their ranks have hands on experience month after month than the Nat Guard will ever have.

It has nothing to do with what they have to deal with it’s due to the lack of respect they give certain civilians why should a civilian respect a police officer that expect someone to bow down to them because their the law. Just because your the law that doesn’t mean you have so much authority to violate civilians of their rights.

There is and always will be cops that lack respect just like how people lack respect for the work of police officers.

As others said, at the end of the day they’re law enforcement too. While not 100% the same, but of the 300ish officers who responded to the Uvalde elementary school shooting in Texas, 150 were border patrol agents and it was ultimately a border patrol “swat” team that killed the shooter. In situations like this every neighboring agency sends anyone they can spare especially for major incidents at large events/building
