As someone who lives extremely close to Owosso, Michigan and is fortunate enough to see Pere Marquette 1225 every other day, I must admit I'm obsessed with the Kanawha/Berkshire locomotive. I'm wishing the best regards for you guys restoring this locomotive in 2020! Hopefully one day I can come down and see her.
Honestly you've got to imagine just how lucky this group had been this year. Not only were they able to get CSX to warm up to the idea of steam excursions. But more or less the entire state of Kentucky recognize's the PR potential, free advertising, and money opportunity assisting in this effort. What's next!? They buy 2716 from it's old home?
Tom Stephens would be so proud. If you don’t know who he is, he use to work for the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society. He died a couple of years ago. His biggest wish was to see 2716 running again. He would be tickled to death too see what you have done to restore 2716
Tom was a friend of our organization and even donated 2716’s Southern Railway boiler tube pilot to us in 2016. Check out our RUclips channel for a video on that donation.
@@KentuckySteam I'm an 11 year old boy from Chicago & I want to restore C&O 2755.The only problem is I can't find a good place to set up shop so I'm hoping someday I could partner with you guys to help restore 2755. Maybe even doing a double header with 2716 & 2755
Was in the crowd at Ravenna when you all pulled in Seeing the massive steam engine was like nothing I ever seen before Only ever saw 1 other steam engine before in Paris Kentucky and it was far far smaller then 2716
2019 was a great year for you all! I'm excited that something like this is going on here in Kentucky. Thanks for all your hard work to preserve 2716, I want to volunteer as soon as I can! ) I spotted myself in the video sporting my KSHC merchandise :)
I wish you guys the best of luck, But I think we all need to give a BIG Thank You to CSX. CSX has seemed to open up to the possibilities of steam excursions. They have also helped out A LOT during the move of 2716, and they also have donated a lot of stuff to the Heritage Corp. Such as the restored C&O caboose aswell as a Diesel Locomotive. Once again, I can't wait to see 2716 under her own steam and I thank everyone who has had an involvement in this project.
Everybody loves positive comments and I have to smile to myself. I recall long ago when I was a boy, seeing and climbing on the last derelict steam engines sitting beside the Russell, KY roundhouse. Amongst them was the 611...now renumbered 614 I think. Also there was three or four 2700s. They were sad looking...having sat there since the late 50s...about 10 years at that point. Maybe a year later, I noticed they were gone! One day, not long after the engines disappeared, I was with a neighbor as he took some junk to the Mansbach scrap yard in Ashland, KY. To my horror, all that remained of the 2700s, was the tender from one of them...and it was half way gone. I had no idea that 611 had been saved from the torch. In 1977, I hired on the then Chessie System and was there when the steam specials were run using the 765?...I think a former Nickel Plate loco. It later mysteriously burned in the old Stevens roundhouse. I'll always think on purpose, because it was a running junker and it made a grand excuse to gift the owner Ross Rowland, their then poster boy for steam engines, the 611 which was in a museum. Considering that engine was only ten years old when they parked it and of the latest steam technology, it was a real prize. Anyway.....Rowland got the engine, we saw a couple years of specials and then the RR pulled the plug. Last I read, the now 614 was in NY somewhere, again derelict. The 2700 K4s were fine locomotives according to the old steam men I worked with. Easy to fire, powerful and fast on manifests and running mtys. I've got to say...I know you're all sucked up to CSX because they're making your dream possible. But they were a pack of rat ...illegitimates..to work for. The great change occurred when Chessie merged with Seaboard. I could write a book of what I witnessed just where I worked in the Russell yard and on the northern subdivision. We referred to the Seaboard outfit as the alligators and they gutted the Chessie, which was a very fine railroad. Chessie should have never allowed those people to hold key management positions...but they did and the demise was akin to the Pennsylvania RR allowing the NY Central to suck them down the wormhole. Good luck with your adventure. It'll last until a change in the guard occurs at Jacksonville. Some bean counter will declare your relationship a waste of money and that'll be the end of things. I saw it happen before.
So cool to see this project in motion! I don't think people give CSX enough credit for what they have done to help this restoration even happen. Looking forward to what 2020 has to bring from the organization!
My Grandaddy, from Lee Co Ky, used to worked for the railroad from the 1930’s until the 1960’s as an engineer on the coal trains. He went from steam engines to Diesel powered trains. There was a railroad yard which usually had the pre-diesel era retired trains parked there.
You guys have done so much for this engine it's unbelievable. I've been really enjoying the updates over the last year. Look forward to 2020. Let's get some more groups like this for some other Locomotives! We must remember our history to preserve our culture! Would love to see 2716 next to N&W 611, UP 4014 and maybe RJ Korman's Chinese QJ!

I am happy for you guys! but I have to ask Will 614 ever run again? I would love to see her back and up in full steam, but she is a 4-8-4 and they cost way more to keep running than a 2-8-4...I think??
Your my inspiration to restore C&O 2755 as I found out the son of 614's previous owner now owns it & he says he's trying to restore it but he's done nothing but give it a new coat of paint
I’ve asked that before and they plan to keep CSX on the tender for a bit. It does have C&O on the one dome so it still has its heritage road name on the engine somewhere.
@@James-Railyard It could be like PM 1225. When it was on display it uad C&O on the tender, but eventually it was changed back to PM when it was fully restored to operation.
