This was one of my favorite brown books for Second Edition. The other was the Humanoids book. You could run a whole campaign on the Psionics book alone focusing on the weirdness of it, with an entire party of psionicists. The players options psionics was another example of TSR trying to suck the life out of psionics (the first attempt was arguably the 1st edition take relegating psionics to wild talents while the original rules in Eldritch Wizardry basically gave you an early psionicist class with the magic-user giving up spells for psionics.
I always loved Psionics in 3.5e, but as I go into 2e and learn of the Psionicist, I love it even more as it's something that actually feels unique and new, while in 3.5e most things felt near identical. 5e did Psionics dirty IMO and is one of the big reasons why I went back to 3.5e and 2e. This video also helps explain things a bit better, so I thank you for this video.
Saying empower creates psionic magic items is histories biggest understatement. With the right psionic powers you could literally pick up a stick and turn it into one of the world's most powerful artifacts.
Psychoportation had more expensive powers, harder power scores, and worse critical fails effects. A low lvl psionacist starting with that discipline would be greatly limited. But yeah, psychoportation was busted. Btw, i loved 2ed psionics more than anything.
I had a psionicist that specialized in psychoportation, and I agree. Dimension Door was really good, and it was cool getting creative with it and using it as a stationary shield at times.
@@CharlieWhitesWigI just stick with what isn’t broken. (Advance dungeons and dragons e1 and e2. ) I have given 3.0 and 4e a try but it is too video game like for me. I have the books and should sell or give them away. Not going to waste my time and money on 5e

Killing the flavor of magic, psionics, classes, races, etc is an ongoing trend in D&D.
@@russellharrell2747 Big sad, since WotC and Hasbro are only doing this to appease to as many people as possible for cash money.
I learned quite a bit about the differences between magic and psionics and this handbook helped.

@@doc9473I used the rules for altering powers and changed it so I could manifest it horizontally. Then use it as a weapon.
@@ironangel667 I was known for using it as a sort of "wall" for my party, teleporting projectiles fired at us back at the enemy
I really like the color art pieces. It is the style you find on 1970s sci fi book covers about psionics. Or Fortean Times.
This looks great. What went wrong with D&D?
The wrong people got into the game, both as players and creators
