Holy heck, I was worried the ram was soldiered to the board because I couldn't find the slot. If it wasn't for this video I would've never guessed that the ram was hidden under that metal shield. thanks a ton!

I have the same laptop and followed everything in the video.... I added a Kingston 256 GB SSD. I didn't clone the disk as I wanted a clean OS. When I first replaced my HDD, there was an issue and the OS (which I installed previously with PC) didn't boot up. Switching Boot Mode from UEFI to Legacy fixed this and it booted up. The Boot Time however is extremely slow, almost equivalent to the HDD. Everything else in really fast... Apps open instantly and everything is good. Your booting time is really fast and I think I probably did something wrong as I don't have much experience with this stuff.
You installed OS to SSD on PC and then insert SSD to a laptop. Do I get it right? If so try to enable UEFI and install OS from flash drive on a notebook. Update OS and install the latest chipset drivers and check that fast boot is enabled. Might be the problem in the legacy mode as legacy uses MBR for boot and UEFI GPT
Or try to convert MBR to GPT on existing OS, but after that switch to UEFI in bios. www.thewindowsclub.com/convert-mbr-to-gpt-disk

What kind of improvement did you see with the upgraded RAM? Is it worth the upgrade or is the CPU too much of a bottleneck?
It depend on usage. Check how much ram you use at your normal usage scenario. If you exceed 4GB then you will feel the difference from extra 4GB in application switching time. These days you can easily go over 4GB in daily usage. Thx. for comment. Subscribe :)
@@MindaugasJocionis True.. Windows alone takes up more than 3 GB. Went for the upgrade and really happy with the improvement. I'm the kinda guy who works with 50 tabs on firefox and there was significant performance gain.

Thanks for this awesome video. :) My Yoga 510 is overheating even the system is idle. I tried to remove the heatsink and the heat pipe. However, the screws were pretty tight. I was afraid to strip them so stopped working on them. Now, I am seeing that you stripped the screws in the way that you can use a flat screwdriver to unloose them. Is it possible to unloose them without stripping? I really don't want to do this.
Use right size, good quality screwdriver and you will unscrew them (I stripped 2 of 4 :) heads).
At first take out fan and check radiator. Usually it's clogged with dust. As you may see in my case thermal paste was still in good shape.

In this laptop, you can upgrade only RAM and SSD. What disk is right now in the laptop, and how much space is left on it?

So you have the old fashion HDD, change it to 512GB SSD, and you will get a huge boost in performance. Also change to 8GB of RAM as for now 4GB is the limit for daily tasks. If you planning to use this laptop for a long time and money is not a problem, buy 1TB SSD and 16GB of RAM. Check links in the video description for parts specifications. Or give me links for parts that you will purchase and I will check if they are compatible.

Thermal paste is only on cpu-gpu die under the heatsink. You need to push RAM shield into fixators (two metal clips - this shield metal goes between them). Subscribe, thank you :)

2. Install again old RAM.

THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO. I have one of these and it is slow slow slow. On start up and using apps such as excel or word. I wonder whether it’s to buy a replacement or would an upgrade be worthwhile.
I actually have a donor machine too, which I was hoping to add more memory from, but looking at this video it seems there is only slot. I know some machines have spare slots where you can lug extra RAM.

The laptop has 4GB of Memory. It is HDD split into a windows drive (c:) and a Lenovo (D:):with usage less than 50% usage on each. I suspect I need more memory.

@@David-lp2fv More memory always is good (you can check your memory usage in daily tasks in task manager, if it exceeds 4GB, then upgrade to 8, for office tasks it will be enough.) your weakest point is HDD, change it to SSD, and the difference will be significant. Thanks for the sub. :)

I have The same laptop never opened it and been using it since 4 years, I want to ask can I 4gb ram more in device with pre-installed 4gb ram getting 8gb ram. I have seen the task manager show 1 out of 4 slots used in ram.
Is there a performance boost when in 8gb of ram I mostly play games and do school projects.

Check task manager, if you are exceeding 4GB in your daily tasks, then you will get a performance boost.
I believe that the device manager shows how many RAM slots can handle chipset, and not physically soldered ones. My desktop PC shows 4 slots in the device manager, but there are only 2 soldered.

Hi sir, I have the same laptop Lenovo yoga 510, i have changed the graphics card and ram but I have the same issue from the starting. My issue is my laptop is opening but after 2 mins the full screen turns to white and black dots.... Ram and graphics card is replaced in Lenovo repair showroom but no one can find the exact issue behind it.... Background running apps - NIL.

Hi, may I know what type of screwdriver you used to remove these extremely small screws?
Actually i don't know the right size, always using first that fits. This time I stripped heads from 2 of 4 screws 8:50, very soft metal. Had to make my own cutouts. So be careful. Buy ifixit set, and you will find one you need. Or any set, but from good quality metal.

I’ve got exactly the same laptop and have bought a crucial 1TB ssd to replace the original HHD. Have downloaded the free Acronis software from Crucial and tried cloning but mine doesn’t restart and start cloning. It attempts to clone straightaway. Afterwards it doesn’t seem to have the boot OS part on. Any ideas?
Also, once cloned can you try booting from it if you set the bios to USB boot? Many thanks
Probably you clone not the whole disk, just some partition. Check youtube for cloning with "Acronis" tutorials. Usually, there are no problems with that.

Where is that error? Is there software that gives you the error?
If so, you can uninstall it, as an accelerometer is needed to park heads on a traditional HDD to prevent disk damage in the case of the notebook fall. There is no need for that in pc that has SSD.

Si entendí correctamente, no tendrás ningún problema a tiempo. 8GB 2666MHz se reconocerán como 8GB 2133MHz

It looks like your yoga supports 2.5" SATA and m.2 NVME 2280 drives. Check what type is installed with software like "AIDA64" (probably it will be 2.5" SATA drive). In that case, you need to purchase m.2 NVME 2280 drive.
And yes you can leave your old drive, just clone it to the new one and change in bios boot priority to the new drive.

Yes, you can use that one. It will run at the maximum speed supported by your CPU (I assume you have 6th gen intel CPU, so it will run at 2133MHz, and lower timings).

the software it cost and a lot. Clone disk is not avail in free trial, but for the full licensed software. That cost 63 usd. So dont waste time for it.
Adata provides the code for the "Acronis" software for cloning, but you need to register your ssd on their website.

What`s profit by DDR-4 2666? I saw 2133 in system, at the end video.
You will get lower CL timings (Well actually you get the same timings as 2133 because 2666 has higher ones, the point is that you cannot buy 2133 right now, i believe they don't produce ram with this frequency anymore.). Right now you can buy only 2400 and 2666 MHz ram in stores, and the price of them is the same. So why not :) Thanks for comment and don't forget to subscribe.

Black screen might be caused by many different reasons, like - bad RAM, short circuit on motherboard because of liquid damage or blown back light fuse, etc. I cannot predict what happened to yours laptop. It's acronis cloning software, usually it's given for free to download with ssd disk, it clones 1:1 your original HDD in auto mode, or you can choose which partition to clone in manual mode. Hi, I wanted to know if temperature throttling with the CPU is normal while gaming or is there an underlying problem? I underclock my cpu to 60% capacity when playing games, and this still gives issues when playing CPU intensive games.
A bit of throttling might be in intensive gaming on some laptops, but you said that you underclocked the CPU, and you still getting thermal throttling. In that case, I'm suggesting you clean the cooling system.

I attempted cleaning the inside today but didn't seem to find much dust at all. The vent on the underside seemed to be covered by some material, I'm not sure if that's dust or part of the filtering system.
Clean all the dust you found (usually there is a dust layer between cooler and radiator), change thermal grease, that's all you can do.

hi guys, could you tell me if this laptop is worth the upgrade today and if the change is remarkable. and what would be better an 8gb ram or a 16gb one (the use I would give it is mostly for Word, browsing, youtube, etc, and some light games)
If yours already has an SSD (and you not running out of space), then there will be no big difference. As for RAM, check what amount you use in daily tasks. If you are exceeding 4GB, buy a bigger module. I think 8GB is a good amount for daily tasks, and you don't need 16GB.

one issue, i just opned my 510 cleaned Ram and placed again but laptop not getting started. also, i forgot to remove the battery plug before removing ram. any idea why its happening?
There is small probability to fry component while taking them out or placing back while battery is plugged. Does laptop starts at all? If it starts, but you see just black screen, try to reinsert ram. Push it till the end, then push down to click in place.

@@MindaugasJocionis Thank you for your response. just power and keyB light blink once and nothing else. I called Lenovo care and applied troubleshot i.e Fn+S+V press for 20sec and then try to power ON and it worked :). I didn't upgrade anything just cleaned Ram and putback. I wanted to upgrade but how will order a RAM? what we should consider? also while removing RAM cover and power plug I did some scratches on MBoard tracks, that will create issues? anyhow it's working fine. I have a 1 TB HDD, how do i upgrade it for this same model also, is there any way to upgrade my Intel i3 processor? When trying to run emulators and virtual machines, my laptop hangs so i think i need to upgrade my 4Gb ram too.

Yes you can use the same parts or higher capacity. Max ram capacity is one stick DDR4 16GB. As for SSD i suggesting 1TB, unless it's too expensive. As for HDD, you can install from scratch, your windows key is integrated in Bios if laptop was already with preinstalled windows. Don't forget to unplug battery connector before parts change. I bought the same ram the specs hwoever of 16gB since i run virtual emulators which basically run on ram. So will this have any effect on my PC? Like 16Gb is the max compatible with the i3 6 gen core.

@@susiolu Sorry, I just tried RAM disk once. Didn't find practical usage for it. Didn't like that, you need to flush everything to disk before shut down, then read back, then you need a huge amount of RAM to make it sense. I think it's more server thing.
@@MindaugasJocionis Since right now i have hdd, it causes heat problems however when I ran android os on Ramdisk after giving 5gB to it, my laptop was cool.
Since now the files are being stored and replaced in ram compartment only.

It means that if you buy 2666MHz ram, BIOS will automatically reduce speed to the max supported by CPU (2133MHz) and automatically will reduce timings from CL19 to CL15 (lower timings - faster data transfer). Actually, there is no benefit from buy higher frequency RAM, just you will not get 2133MHz RAM in stores it's not produced anymore. I hope it's more clear now :) Subscribe, thank you.

but after i installed the parts i figured out that i forgott the unplug the battery connection so i did unplug and replug but nothing happened
@@satuor1076 It's like swapping parts in a stationary PC when plugged into the wall. It can damage components, but not always. I'm still suggesting replugging RAM. It was few times with me, always was a bad RAM connection. Just don't forget to unplug the battery this time.
