Just so everyone is on the same page in Ch16(from the receiver) is Aux12(in betaflight). Also, if it's still not working, update the firmware using the rss8 or rssi16 firmware. In the case of rssi8 firmware, it's Ch8 or Aux4.

Nice, so happy it works since I just got my xm+ in the mail about 5min ago, lol! I think it may have been me you were talking about in the video (unless someone else pointed it out as well). I pasted the part about rssi being on channel 16 in the product specs and I saw a preview of your reply telling me no it wouldn't work. Every time I tried clicking on the comment notification to read your full comment it was telling me the video was deleted and I was confused why it was taken down. I was about to be real sad that rssi wouldn't work but then I noticed this new video in my subscription box lol. Thanks for putting in the work to figure it out so I don't have to when I install mine later tonight! :D
For everyone who only has 14 aux. Flash the XM + to the 8 channel firmware not the 16 chnnel and then it will show as aux 4 select aux 4 from pull down save. Works for me.
A heads up for those who are using Butterflight: (from github/Butterflight pages) on the receivers page of Butterflight, the rssi channel will be 12 and the aux channel will be 12 also. For some reason the XM+ only shows 14 channels in Butterflight??? I followed the the rest of the checks and changes in JC's video and I am up and runing. Like many of you I gained a lot of information and help the videos from JC. He is missed by us and of course his family.
R.I.P. we miss you so much. You were the top rated kwad guy in my eyes,Bardwell even had to learn from you.You started it all and our hobbie is where its at because of you.Your missed by millions.
Wow, that's outstanding! I'm getting ready to build a micro with an XM+, so this will definitely be something I'll do. Unfortunately, the FliteTest kit comes with a controller without OSD, not that I could use it anyway because I intend to use an Eachine TX03 all-in-one FPV cam/tx/antenna, and unless I become a lot more daring, I'm not going to interrupt the video signal to route it through the controller and back into the transmitter. It would be great if these AIO cams had that feature.
****FIX FOR LATER BETAFLIGHT VERSIONS**** I was having the same trouble as everyone else trying this and RSSI only read 50% all the time. In order to fix this for the XM+ you must update the receiver firmware. Go to the FrSky firmware download page: www.frsky-rc.com/download/index.php?sort=Firmware and download the latested firmware for either your XM or XM+. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE "NOTE" on the FrSky XM+ download page as it has descriptions of the files contained in the ZIP file and their purpose. I can only confirm this for XM+ as I don't have an XM. Follow Blue Falcon's video (ruclips.net/video/eYVk2lWPJxU/видео.html) and flash the downloaded firmware to the XM+. Plug the XM+ back into you quad and bingo...RSSI to your FC will now work in the latest version of Betaflight.
T3chDad, I was struggling to make it work on channel 16, but didn't get it to work. Upraded the firmware and voilá!!! Works like a charm now!!! Many thanks!
Thank you so much for that Video! I've had set RSSI on my OSD with the help of your Video! But there's on thing thats is very annoying. If i switch off my taranis the Rssi Percentage stays always between 20 - 30 %. So i wouldn't notice a failsafe. The reason is the failsafe setting on channel 16 ( even on Failsafe = drop ). The Channel 16 stays on "hold" and so it holds the last value. But i want it to be 0, so "set" it on 1000. Now i will notice a failsafe by the value 0 on my OSD. I'm not sure if someone else mentioned this tip - there are too much comments. But i think that would be a nice update for your video description. Best regards!
Yea I'm liking it so far. The XM Plus will be here soon so I'll have some videos on that soon. If you dont care for telemetry in the transmitter then these are great receivers.

Hi ,great video, after tying in cli ,set max_aux_channels = 12 ,is says invalid value ,allowed range 0-6, I'm using the latest stable version sp f3 beataflight 3.1.5. Trying to get rssi on taranis. As I have no osd. Using xm receiver.., I have a xm+ on its way ,so probably switch to that when it arrives, awesome videos I've learnt so much from your channel ,keep up the great work
Unfortunately this no longer works with betaflight 3.1.5 as the maximum auxiliary channels on F3 boards is restricted to 6. Im staying on 3.1.3 until a work around is hopefully found! Love all your videos by the way mate I spend hours watching them!
Good days... I have a very quick questions... I using XM+ but in beta flight (RSSI) i only have channel 14 or i need to flash to lastest firmware . to have 16 channel ? Thanks
I do use raceflight, but what I can say right now is the current version available to the public is very bad. But I've been using the test version of the Raceflight One project. Its almost finished and will be released to the public in the next couple weeks. It is much better. Once it releases I'll make plenty of videos on Raceflight One just like I've done with Betaflight. But for right now I would say Betaflight is much better than the version of Raceflight that is out right now.
Damned, I just liked the video and wanted to thank you but apparently u're probably flying in the sky with angels ;( Thanks for your advices, it helped me even if u're not here anymore... Peace to you.
Thanks for your videos JC. As others have motioned I can't get RSSI using the XM+ with an f3 board. I've tried rolling back betaflight firmware but doesn't help, when I turn it on the RSSI value is stuck at 50% and it's not moving in the receiver tab.
I cant confirm. Never got around to trying it. Plus sometimes when you wire from the RSSI pad sometimes it requires an inverter or filter. But if you use a OSD that receives data from the flight controller then doing it the way I did in the video would be most simple and not need any filters or inverters.
alright. if ya get a chance. i did everything here. im not getting any action i got 50% showing up in the setup tab now but its not showing up in the receiver tab... any thoughts. thanks!
Hi. I’m new to this hobby. At first I thought you saved me because what you said in the beginning of the video is exactly how I felt. Then after following steps by steps in the video, my AUX 12 isn’t moving at all. I’m using XM+. Also, I got 18% rssi before I even do anything and it flies good. When I fly, the rssi output is going up. I switched the invert to ON and I get 81% with the qx7 sitting right next to the drone. Need help.
Hi, I correctly understand that if the receiver and the transmitter do not support rssi, then this parameter will not be enabled in betaflight and nothing will be displayed on the osd connected by spi.
Hi There, I just followed your steps and i am indeed getting an RSSI on channel 16, however on the setup, RSSI readout is showing 0%, how can i resolve this?
Unfortunately he passed after a motorcycle accident a few years ago. You may need o go to the receiver tab in Betaflight and set RSSI Channel to Aux 12, you should see it fluctuating there if it's working.
Do you have some suggestions what to do if I still get 50%? I get it only when RSSI is disabled or on AUX 12, since I dont have 16, only 14. For example AUX 14 shows RSSI 0%...I tried to flash XM+ with new firmware but did nothing.
Hi JC, ive tryied to set RSSI on my XM but on the list with channels i have only 14 of them, not 16. What's wrong, can you help? P.S. i'm fresh in this topic ;P
Is there no problem with using 16 channels on a limited bandwidth? Once saw a video that the rx might mess up your signals because the time between on off cycles becomes so small it misinterprets the signal. Therefore, it not better to set it to channel e.g. 9?
Half of it does. Only difference is the XSR doesnt already have RSSI on channel 16. You'll have to do it yourself. Here is a video for that. ruclips.net/video/LPxjT3Aosak/видео.html
Thank you the helpful video! I use this receiver with my old CC3D Atom at now. The micro minim OSD worked on main port (UART1) previously, but now the receiver use it. The minim osd isn't work on flexi port (UART2) for me. Could you suggest any solution for this problem?
hi Jc..i am useing matek osd on pdb and xm plus..getting my RSSI on betaflight like u told in this video..all perfect is there any possibility to get on screen..?thank you
I haven't used one of those yet but I'm going to order one and give it a try. But there are no wires running to the flight controllers UARTs so its not sending and receiving data. I could be wrong though. But if its not then without that data then the only other way would be if there is a RSSI pad on the PDB itself. But then again that would work with other receivers, not sure if the XM+ has a RSSI pad on it. I'll have to take a look into all of this.
So I cannot seem to get the rssi value to show up on channel 16 (aux 12) for some reason. Does this not work in BF 3.1.7? I have a Tango Tx, and a 16channel module in it as well as a XM+ rx plugged into my Colibre FC, but I just cannot get rssi to show up there. Do I need to make any other changes? What about the rssi slider on the configuration tab?
Hello JC. I've have successfully get rssi from an XM+ following your video here. But my friend done exactly the same and his rssi is stuck on 49 and isn't moving at all.We are both using Matek f405 CTR and XM+,both running Betaflight 3.2.2 and I dunno why mine works and his is doing that. P.S. Keep up the good work.Thanks.
Discover sensors and ensure RSSI is discovered. Then there is a low and critical alarm setting on the telem screen that you can set. Additionally you can set up a logical switch to activate when RSSI value is a bellow a certain number. Additionally you can setup a special function to readout that rssi value once the logical switch is activated. Hope that gets you started.
hey JC I have a question my battery voltage was displayed on my taranis and x4r sbus bit now I have no voltage on controller just the battery indicator and voltage is displayed on betaflight any idea what this could be
This receiver has no telemetry at all. So you wont see anything on your transmitter. Thats the only reason they could make it so small, by removing all the telemetry stuff.
Hey, I'm running an XM+ with the Betaflight F3 board on 3.1.7 and can't get RSSI to show up. I'm doing exactly as shown in your video. Are there any taranis input/mixer changes that need to be removed for this to work? Thanks so much for all your videos PBF

Can we wire the rssi pad in the xm+ to one pdb OSD like the RROSD or the Hubosd?
I cant confirm. Never got around to trying it. Plus sometimes when you wire from the RSSI pad sometimes it requires an inverter or filter. But if you use a OSD that receives data from the flight controller then doing it the way I did in the video would be most simple and not need any filters or inverters.

hi Jc..i am useing matek osd on pdb and xm plus..getting my RSSI on betaflight like u told in this video..all perfect is there any possibility to get on screen..?thank you
I haven't used one of those yet but I'm going to order one and give it a try. I'll have to take a look into all of this.
yes there is RSSI pad on the PDB..but iam not sure wich pad have rssi signal on xm plus....Thanks Alot JC!!
I just got one of these and there are Tx and Rx pads on it i got a kiss though and am trying to figure that out as well
So I cannot seem to get the rssi value to show up on channel 16 (aux 12) for some reason.
P.S. Keep up the good work.Thanks.
have you found a solution yet. mine is doing the same thing. on a qx7 and emax hawk5
hello JC im new to open tx is there a way to get low rssi warning from the radio ? much appreciate help buddy
Hope that gets you started.
dont you have to calibrate the RSSI? like how does it know when it is losing signal?
hey JC I have a question my battery voltage was displayed on my taranis and x4r sbus bit now I have no voltage on controller just the battery indicator and voltage is displayed on betaflight any idea what this could be
This receiver has no telemetry at all.
Hi JC. Can I set RSSI using RaceFlight the same way that you do it on BetaFlight, I mean, with the same commands on CLI? Thanks.
Unfortunately no. Raceflight is completely different
Yeap... I notice that... I type the commands and nada!!! Thanks anyway
