The great Boris Gardiner indeed!! I got my musical inspiration from listening to his records since I was a young boy growing up. I was fortunate to meet him at a shopping mall off halfway Tree road in the 70s. I think a sound system called Mellocanery was playing there. He is definitely a most humble person. I told him I was a fan and I also was interested in music. I was so excited when he invited me to a studio called Aquarius. I got my first experience of what a recording studio was like. I was overjoyed to hang out in the studio with the great Boris Gardiner. God bless him throughout his life. A great artist indeed!! Still listening to his songs.
Teach Dem , I found this interview very informative and I 🎉so happy for Boris as I was a teenager when his hit song “I wanna wake up “ was released and the whole Jamaica was singing this song. I am so happy to see this interview of Boris Gardiner. He is my favorite vocalist. A great bassist also. I listened to his songs all through my teenage years until this day. I saw Mr Gardner perform at over by Irie Fm before it was Irie Fm when I was a kid probably younger than 7 years old and that performance still is in my head until this day. I would like to share a memory on this platform with Boris in the mid fifties I lived in Vineyard Town very near the Globe Theater at Bercombe Ave. and a few days before Christmas I was walking down the road and I met Mr Gardiner coming down the road, he stop me and said " excuse me little girl, does mr Ding Dong live here" I was taken aback and thought he was silly asking me about a mr Ring Ding Dong, I told him I don't know such a person with a silly name...he thank me and continued walking down the road. I remember this encounter with Mr Gardiner everytime I see him on the media.
This I truly enjoyed. I've learned so much about Jamaican culture from listening to these iconic artists. one thing pretty much all of them have in common is that were mostly ripped off in the earlier part of their career. God bless these great Jamaicans, because after them them there's not much to look forward to..

Teach is in my era once again; Boris with that soulful style of reggae (to appeal to uptown) and he was a competent bass player as well.

I've learned so much about Jamaican culture from listening to these iconic artists. one thing pretty much all of them have in common is that were mostly ripped off in the earlier part of their career.
