Living Legend! The Greatest of All Times. As a little girl being at Jah Love and seeing how people would stack them tape deck to record the selections Ilawi was playing and to hear Brigadier Jerry the Greatest D.J of All times flow none stop for 12 hours with pure freestyle. People a travel from all over the Island sometimes a week in advance just to make sure them reach a one Jah Love dance. Respect for this interview of my Dad.
Hey Sati❤
The first real dance I went was Jah love with the great Brigadier Jerry, at Claremont market, St Ann.
Blessings empress
Interesting
Teach them you done it again miles ahead of the rest of them. You are the best of them this man I don’t think he have ever done an interview before I heard so much about him and I’ve never seen a picture of him before bless up yourself.
Wait? Wait? Is this the legendary Albert Johnson aka Ilawi of Jah Love Muzik? Ilawi is one of the most talented selectors, singer, and drummer. Ilawi may have more talents that I don’t know about. Ilawi’s daughter Hempress Sativa is making some serious roots and culture music right now. The talent runs in the family. Give thanks Teach Dem for interviewing this living legend. Eastman endorsed
⁰😊😊😊
Ilawi give thanks for the Joy of music you and the Brigadier. You guys make me go to every Jah Love dance

ILAWI, THE GREAT SELECTOR WITH JAH ❤ OVER 40 YEARS. MY RESPECT. 👍👍👍
Jamaica needs jah love, ilawi and papa briggi . I truly believe they will curb the crime rate in Jamaica right now. Real talk
One of the best selectors. Big up Illawi!
Much appreciloved Teach Dem for bringing us this interview with an ICON. Took me back to my days of going to Jah Love dance. Blessings!!!
No stone unturned fi' find the man iIawi...give Jah the glory..as long as there's Life
Yet another great interview. Teach Dem, thank you for interviewing this legend. Well isn’t that all you do!! Bless up!!
Jah know, Brigadier and ilawi has taught me much, musically and biblically.. JAH know I miss those days..
I beg to second your statement.. those were the days of the dancehalls
Jah Jah, Teach, now you talking! I've lost count of how many Jah Love dances I've been to when I was young. Must watch !!!
I remember while in primary school our school had a concert in the 70s and the TWELVE TRIBE BAND was there and also Bunny Wailer. Those were the good old days 🔥🔥🔥👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Wayne Chin used to say on the radio..REMEMBER WHEN YOU DRINK DON'T DRIVE...
Teach Dem, give thanks for the interview.
Jah Love played at Balham Studio 200 in 1982, and it was road block . We had to put speaker boxes out on the street, in order for those who could not get into the Club, because it was ram to the capacity, because the response of the people was overwhelming . The popular tune from Briggy was PAIN at the time, and that tune was big in England, which may have been the reason for the big turnout to listen Jah Love .
Respect to you and much more blessings
Bredrin remember it well, it was ram , remember water falling from the ceiling it was so hot , Briggy mash it up .yeah man the legendary Balham studio 200
@@MarkieMark1281 The memories will never fade .
I was there!
Appreciate to see the great ILAWI in person! ❤ been listening Jah love from a teenager in Port of Spain Trinidad! Great influence in I man life! Great brigadier General and Ilawi! 🙏 🔥 👊 give thanks Teach Dem!!❤❤

Much respect to the great Ilawi. Met you in Toronto playing Jah Love Music, and still have you on many cassettes.
Jah Love Music, ILawi and Brigadier Jerry,... Forever the best
Another Epic historical reasoning from one of our danceall sound system selector the great ILAWI. Wow what a journey, blessings Teach continue the works well appreciated.
I can't remember hearing Ilawi's voice on the mic. Just making some wicked selections with Brigadier Jerry chanting pon the riddim. Never knew he was such an articulate man.
Great man , i heard jah love music play at lysson community center in St Thomas , right after Bob Marley funeral , the man played some bob marley i’ve never heard before or again. .
Yes good to see the legend.. Illawi the best selecta of all time !!! Jah Love Muzik kept the biggest dance/session in Porus Manchester, Jamaica W.I.... i was told the soccer field became a market place ,, vendors were selling items and food ... They say that when Brigadier Jerry was chanting on the sound ,, the rain came down and there was lightning and thunder.. A very historic dance .. very very crowd.. When they were heading back to Kingston in the morning , they drove slowly and waved to the people and shake everybody's hand .. respect to Illawi , very good selecta .. very good good singer,, very good drummer .. long live Illawi..
I was at this dance. The first time i saw the greatest DJ ever.
I never heard about ilawi but after watching this interview I feel like I know him for a lifetime.
Another person I recently learnt about is brushy one string and now now I can't stop listening to his music. All who love brushy one string and think he didn't get enough love and justice . Hit a thumbs up to get teach attention we need brushy one string story
❤

I met ilawi when I was 11 living in clapham London. Jah Love came over for a couple of dance. One of the greatest and underrated selectors. Bless up Ilawi
I always thought Ilawi was a real African selector for Jah love sound growing up till i realised he is actually jamaican a descendant of Africa. The way Briggy and chaplain big up Ilawi also he plays unique music. Respect Teach Dem for this interview GOAT ILAWI 💂🏿♂️
Nuff respect to Ilawy very contious bredda top selector one of the greatest selector love this interview

My brother Ilawi!
We trotted crates of dubs from the Bronx and Brooklyn regularly. Miss runnings my very talented brother. Big up every time from foreign!
Much appreciated Teach Dem. Certainly one of the greatest selector and obviously one of our unsung heroes.
Another great interview - keep up the good work 💪
The best selecter ever one love my brother
The GOAT of all selectors.
Nah he great but the Goat is Danny Dread
@@LifeJourney-qp2bcbecause someone played 100 sounds doesn't make them the greatest, I would argue that jah shaka who played one sound for 40 years straight is the greatest selector ever.
End of Story! Good for all the other Selectors who have been playing the 1 Sound for 40 Years! This Man played Jah Love for More than 40 years and still Strengthen Stur Gave Hi Fi at the behest of Daddy U-Roy and never skipped a beat a the World Renowned Selector for Roots and Culture! This Man Pioneered what is called the "Orthodox Selection" a bet yuh nuff don't even have a clue what that refers to! His influence span worldwide and ask all the names mentioned in the world of Selecting they will still tell you Ilawi is there influence. Danny Dread and Ilawi are Icons in a Real Life! Living Legends who pioneered Jamaica's sound system culture and if Anyone is going to be the Goat is those 2. Jah Love was never a Clash sound, Ilawi ONLY played music to inspire the mind consciously in the name of Ras Tafari.
I’m not getting into the GOAT debate but I just want to say Arrows Hi-Fi for me is the greatest sound. That means the selectors got to be the GOAT. Oops! I did say no GOAT debate for me. Lol
Love his sense of human
Blessings ilawy more blessings long live the greatest of all
Teacher you got to have a part two of this interview this man has a lot of undiscovered history it seems has if you are just scrashing the surface you have to have a part two there his a lot more to discover please make possible for part two teach them this is great history you have found gold mine
I agree ☝️ these elders teach” better than those with degrees(work permit)😢
Excellent interview ! Really appreciate every bit of it. Historical !
By simple calculations, we have an idea of his age. I admire how the information is just flowing. Memory a click.

My greatest memory of a Jah Love dance in Spanish Town went in there from about six in the evening drop asleep by a speaker box wid Briggy a DJ an wake up hours later and him still a DJ. Nicest dance evah.
Yes Teach Dem another great hit. Try and get the last artist from Carlton and the Shoes, their catalogue of music is magnificent.
Had the pleasure of working with him on Royal Radio in Bronx, New York , USA. Very humble man . A true genius .He is well rounded music man .

Blessed love father Ilawi, I enjoyed your interview and also learnt a lot 🙏🙏
Original iilawi..jah love..our sound dat!
This man playing REGGAE all over Jamaica and I was there.
I remember the day when Brigie and Illawi use to on Hagley park Road, next to Yummy’s bakery, them days it was just fruits and vegetables, there was the only place dance could keep without police mash it up. A them change the thing, a lot of uptown kids use to be there so the police couldn’t find any excuse to mash it up
Ilawi left Alpha Boys School the same year that the great Jamaican trombonist Don Drummond a former Alpha student left us physically.
Jah love is still di best to i man. No other. Only stur gav would be di next. Jah love come ah westmoland and mashed it up everytime....
Blesses Love, Ilawi.
Greatest of all original entertainer
Wow! What a story about my favourite sound system, & what a fantastic memory he has, this is the information i needed to hear. I heard a interview sometime ago with Brigadier Jerry, telling part of the ;jah love story. This seals it all. Well done teach dem keep them coming.🙌🏾
Great interview listened to Jah Love Muzik with Ilawi and Briggy (plus Briggy DJ brother Jeremiah) a few times in the UK Birmingham Digbeth Civic hall early '80's boom dance I can remember
Was there as well, 1982!
Thank you so much Teach Dem for a great outerview my only gripe is that I would have asked him more about is combination with Brigadier Jerry the greatest selector D.j combination to ever grace the music fraternity.. I would have liked to have heard more about the twelve tribes selection the greatest selection of music ever put together by a selector.. & asked him if it was true Bob Marley actually sang live on Jah Love combining with the Brigadier just like how Dennis Brown & Freddy McGregor did & I would have liked to have heard more about the great twelve tribes dance that was held at Dunns River Fall St.Ann’s back in 1980 but don’t follow me Teach Dem is spoil mi spoil & I give thanks for what I learned from this great outerview Big Up Ilawi you are the template for all selectors around the world .. & please 🙏🏾 Teach Dem if you could get the Brigadier to tell his story it would be very much appreciated.. I give thanks for what you have brought forth Teach Dem KUTGW… 🙏🏾
Great interview ....you will go down in history
Rastafari people hail all bless I up up Rastafari love it iya
Raspect Teach dem, another great interview by you with the Great Ilawi, a truly enjoyable interview which was interesting and carried out in a humble heartical fashion. i believe there is more from the great man and maybe another interview about his songs and his works at the various studios. Nevertheless i am glad to have heard him tell his story. I am off to go play my "looking for Signs" record now.
Thank you both!
Ras K.C🔴⚫🟢
