- Everyone. This song is not against christians. It's about how people use the name of God for their own agenda!
I'm an atheist, but whether you're christian, muslim or buddhist do not take offence in this song. And those of you, who like me, do not belive in god: This song is not to be taking literally. You should think about some of the stuff he says, like the opening line, "God thinks all blacks are obsolete farm equipment". That was what the whites first claimed. Hitler was against Jews, and said that God was too, Some people claims that whites are like Satan, and so on..
So when he sings, "they know what God thinks" he means that people keep claiming that they know what God really thinks, and then they use it against whoever they dislike.

Let's not place us all in the same box. I just love Voltaire and his music. I also tend to like sorts of metal, and bands like Meinhard and Blutengel or Nachtmähr. On the other side, I'm a Roman Catholic.
There are normal folk among our "ranks" who can think/see past the box. Sadly, there are not enough.
As a person of faith, I absolutely love this song. It's not so much bashing religion as it is bashing the jackasses who use it to justify their actions. Personally, I despise people like that. If God wants you to do anything, it's to be accepting to others, be they man, woman, straight, gay, or any ethnicity or faith.

A Catholic priest was talking to a group of school children. He told them all people matter, and that they could learn from anybody, young or old.
A young girl asked the priest what they could learn from Atheists.
The priest smiled and told her that Atheists held the most important lesson. He explained that because Atheists followed no God, they had nobody telling them to do good things. They didn't believe they were promised anything after death, regardless of good or evil. Therefore, when they saw an Atheist doing a kind act, they were doing it directly from the bottom of their hearts, and that was a beautiful lesson, to learn to be kind not because of God, or Heaven, but from your own heart.

A priest told me that you could only be a good believer if you were tought as a child. I answered, so unless you're properly indoctrinated as a child, religion makes no common sense? I got a painfull smile but no answer. And I said, Thank you, your silence says it all.

You know what is the worst part of this, this atheist guy can understand God a lot better than most of the faithful people I know. Like seriously, I am a theist and the number 1 reason I hate being around a lot of theist people, is that there is always a group of assholes telling you that God totally supports their own selfish ideas. None of them were really thinking for themselves, just trying to understand what Buddha would have wanted and inferring that meant it was what everyone should adhere to.
It's not a philosophy. That concept came from the West watering down Buddhist concepts for mass appeal. It's a religion with holy scriptures, supernatural beliefs, an afterlife, temples, corrupt organizations, and terrorists.

I think it's fairly obvious we all come to our own morality and political views independent of our religions, or lack thereof, and those who use God to defend their views are just projecting what they came up with on their own onto their ideal master of morality. It's pretty simple. If you hate homosexuals, you're gonna hate them whether or not you believe in god. If you hate liberals, you're gonna hate them whether or not you believe in a god. Etc. Etc.
In the long run, using your god to justify what you think is right or wrong is the equivalent of saying, "Well dad says I'm right so hah." That didn't work when we were kids, it doesn't work now.

Hey, guys! Why not, instead of wondering the REWARDS and PURPOSE of being good, why not just be good for the sake of being good? Don't you all think that the arguments about WHY we're good and what'll HAPPEN if we're good is causing an OPPOSITE REACTION of what we're all trying to say?

Freedom of Speech isn't a free pass for you to bitch at others, and they have no right to counterattack, in fact, they have MORE of a right to counterattack. Also, tell me if this sounds right, "You're doing good things for the wrong reasons." In some situations, that might work, but if there are two people who both have wives, two kids, and are doing pretty well for themselves, they're both living a good life. It doesn't matter what they enjoy or believe in. If they're happy, they're happy.

humanity by it's very nature selfish. we need motivation to do anything. dante's inferno is basically a very well written fanfiction for the bible. according to many priests i've spoken to it's reliable only to a certain degree, the wiping of civilizations was in the old testament, essentially a watered down version of the Jewish bible. also to know the future doesn't mean to know the exact course, only every possible outcome, there's a reason why catholic priests preach against beliefs such as destiny and fate.
Totally agree. I will say I don't give two fucks what religion someone worships but I have an issue with it when they use their religion as a reason to hurt and discriminate against others. Like how because people say god hates homosexuality we have this stupid fucking stigma in this country against the LGTB community that denies people of a same sex relationship in many areas to be wed thus limiting their freedoms and rights. And it also interferes with other rights as well like an Indian woman in Ireland who needed to get an abortion because the baby was dying inside of her and it was going to kill her. That should be an allowed abortion because the baby is gonna die anyways. right? Well according to the catholic politicians and board of medicine there, the baby's life was more important and so the hospital we not permitted to abort a child that was going to die anyways which cost the woman her life. Religion should be a thing that unifies people, yet all it does in reality is separate us and makes us fight with each other.

Like whenever an accident happens where some people die and some people don't. The families of those that survive are always thanking God.
For what? Killing another human that wasn't related to you and make their family sad?
If God was so good, he wouldn't let the accident happen in the first place. It'd be like "Thank God I made it across the road safely" when there are no cars in sight.
That said, I am a Christian, albeit a more sceptic one. I believe that God is an idea, a concept and that we draw strength from it when we need it, when we need something to be bigger than ourselves. You can go through your entire life without needing it and some may need it more than others. It's really valuable to some people and that is fine, I don't want to devalue it.
Once in my life there was a short moment I believed. After my grandmother past away I saw a pure white dove. It's the only one I have ever seen and I have not seen one since. I want to believe that it appeared to let me know that she had reunited with grandpa on the other side because deep down, I need to believe that.
That said, it was an interesting song. 😄

I'm a spiritualist and been learning Buddhism. Honestly I had a great laugh with this cause It's true. I do believe we are all one and everything and people do use this "GOD" to get what they want and feel comfort in their horrific n' odd ways. A lot of people have lost their common sense for some damn reason and can't think for themselves. But those who do think for themselves are majorly materialistic and or a big narcissist. Sooner or later peace will be a thing hopefully. Anyways, I enjoyed the video. Made my day real quick! :D

My favorite story of lucifer. God sends Lucy into the garden and tells him to tempt Adam and Eve.( yes I know that the snake is not lucifer but hear me out.) lucifer gets to close to the forbidden knowledge and by accident gain a sense of free will. Lucifer sees how god is not always right or good, but thinks that being more like god would bring them closer together. Eventually they grow distant and god punishes lucifer by sending him to earth to be with his other mistakes and gives lucifer dominion of the earth. Soon Lucifer finds out that things aren't going so well in earth, he thinks we are squandering our gift, following one person and not even thinking about it. He then realizes there is nothing he can do and sits back giving up on the world. Lucifer being sent here, hell not really being the after life earth being hell. And everyone dies and comes back to earth, born again. Everyone gets a little taste of heaven every once and a while, and a dose of hell every once and a while. Meaning we should all strive to leave this world for the better, a world we would want to be born into again.

I thinks it was a Reddit story, or a creepy pasta sort of thing. All I remember is that it was set in a bar, where a random guy meets a woman, and she dumps everything about god and creation to him out of boredom and frustration. Whether he believes it is not the point, it’s just a way to vent for Lucifer.
I recommend either listening or reading the entire odyssey to the west album by slice the cake. Every song in order.

Every person in this world is free to believe in something or not. God thinks we are intelligent creatures with their own free will, capable to make good or bad decisions. On the other hand, people think they are allowed to speak in god`s name while acting like angry animals out of the cage and doing nothing to help the ones in need. I`m a christian and i think God is love. That`s all.

I just think that people in the current generations shouldn't be made to feel any shame for what their ancestors did. People of every race and religion have done terrible things for what they believe in. All we can do now is learn from all the mistakes that were made, and unite. Embrace the things that make us different and learn to love them all. Spread peace and happiness, and fight with words, not guns. Everyone fights for what they believe is right, and no one is inherently evil. Theres always a chance to change who you are. Five years ago I was cold and bitter, self centered, selfish, and self absorbed. I was angry at the man who assaulted me, and angry at the world that just stood by. But everyone has the power to forgive, just like I forgave. You can be happy too, if you realize how much you're holding on to. You don't have to carry that burden through your life. Once you realise that you're holding something, it's a lot easier to let go. You can cut the strings holding you to that weight, one by one. You can feel yourself get lighter, free from your past. You can forgive all that have wronged you, and you can feel true happiness. True peace. You can be a beacon of hope to others, and reach out to them, just as I am to you.
No religious connotations to this, just someone genuine trying to help other people.

Not only christians. In many other countries they still have laws following religious rules and even when changed people won't change their ways immediatly. Unfortunatly we witness a huge step back towards religous madness again because critic on special groups is seen as "phobia".
