Maduro is my favorite wrapper. I tend to gravitate more toward sweet tasting notes like chocolate and creaminess and that's what I get from maduro-wrapped cigars.
As my top choice I very much agree with you. If you haven’t tried the EP Carrillo La Historia, you’re in for a treat. One of the most unique cigars I’ve ever had, the Mexican wrapper is next level. Cheers!
Man anyone watch these videos and automatically start writing down the names of the cigars in your notes to pick ‘em up the same week???? 😅😅😅 Love the content always
@@brianedwards5071 that was me bro your on a great route ! You’ll for sure learn something dope on Holts. For sure try some drew estate cigars, AJ Fernandez cigars, and For sure Espinosa
Great video. I agree 100%. Been enjoying cigars for decades now and can say wrapper leaf is where most of the flavours come from, but also to your point, you do need the binder and filler leaves to round it out and aid in flavour and aroma transitions. My fav wrapper leaf is the Aromatica Doninicana, which is a proprietary wrapper leaf Davidoff uses exclusively on the Royal Release. By the way, would LOVE to see you review my fav cigar. The Royal Release Robusto. I’m also a big fan of West African used on the Don Carlos No. 2. 🤙🏽
Maduro for me all the way. I definitely gravitate toward the sweeter and more complex notes the Maduro’s provide. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy switching things up which is why I carry a wide variety of wrappers in my humidor.
My favorite full body cigar is the La Aroma de Cuba Reserva Maximo. Box pressed with a Mexican Cuban seed obscuro wrapper. The only problem is I enjoy it so much that I tend to smoke it too quickly and make myself feel sick.
I'm glad I watched this video. I've found myself avoiding Maduro because I like a mild to medium strength smoke, and just assumed the darker wrapper meant a punchy nicotine experience. I'll have to try some, thank you!
Ashtons aren't my favorite, and I rarely buy them, but I recommend both as good starting points for beginners who maybe aren't sure if they like cigars and/or people wary of maduros. Aside from being approachable, they are amazingly consistent. I would pick a Padron for myself any day, and people have different tastes, but I can't imagine anyone who likes cigars not liking at least one if not both of those Ashton standards.
I started with swisher sweets at first, but recently tried a brick house maduro and churchill. I couldn’t believe how much of a difference there is between cigars. I really love maduro wrappers. That mellow smoothness really is nice for my bi-weekly relaxation cigar.
Mazz at it again with some incredible content. I definitely prefer maduro wrappers (especially Padron 1964 and 1926) because I do prefer some of those more chocolatey, cocoa, and at times coffee notes from the wrapper. Thanks again for another great video. Cheers
You have such a massive vocabulary and I didn't understand much. 😅 But I did learn Natural is a lighter wrap & Maduro is Spanish for Mature/ripe and is darker.
Great video! The Ashton Aged Maduro is one of my all time favorite sticks! Super smooth and rounded flavor profile with one of the best natural sweetness I've had. I will have to try the others mentioned now to compare!
When I got into cigars I was skeptical about trying Maduro cigars as they looked imposing like Anthony said. However, when I tried the Ashton aged Maduro I thought to myself “Why was I so afraid?” It has now become one of my all time favorite cigars to smoke when I’m looking for a rich flavor profile. Also amazing video. Can we get a tour of the Studio one day?
Same here. I realized I just can't enjoy most other wrappers especially the lighter Connecticut wrappers. A 2 dollar maduro tastes better than a 10 dollar Connecticut
I only just started last year. I kept trying things, but I noticed two cigars (infused) that I like a lot: Sweet Jane and Isla Del Sol Maduro. I took off on regular flavors from there, and if it says Maduro, I gravitate towards it. I have a palette that is not very sensitive, so I need a punch in the mouth to taste. Like a London Club Punch Clasico Maduro, one of my favorites (when the draw and wrap aren’t screwed up).
Just took delivery of 5 Perdomo 10th Anniversary and 5 RP Vintage 1992. The RP I really like, the Perdomos I bought on your recommendation. Looking forward to trying them. I'm normally a Maduro kind of guy so will be interesting. Another great review Anthony with loads of info.. thank you. 👍
Great vid as usual. Love your examples. AF maduro is a fav. Ashton are great, but too pricey for everday. The 8 5 8 maduro is a go to flavor bomb at great value. Thanks Anthony...when I grow up I wanna be you.
The Ashton Aged Maduro is AMAZING!! Just had it for the first time today, #40. Thanks to you Mazz! Even got it from Holts. It was sooo smooth with so much flavor! And I am newbie:) Thank you for recommending it!
Tried tried both the Maduro and Original in the Fuente Gran Reserva premium Cigar. Paired them both with coffee, Loved both but gotta say the Original is my favorite.
I am 33 and looking into maybe getting into cigars I have never smoked anything before but the idea of what a cigar stands for and the complexities that go with cigars seems amazing. What would you recommend for a first cigar? I don't really enjoy spicey food I lean towards sweet and most likely not a strong one
Very well explained! I can agree for the Ashton and also the Padron! I’ll definitely pick up and try some more cigars in my upcoming vacation! Happy New Year!
You are my cigar idol !! What did you smoke for your Christmas Cigar? I had a Hoyo de Monterrey Illusions of Excalibur 🗡 with a year of age on it. Excellent
Merry Christmas! Great information provided in this video. I had to Lear that the look of the cigar, the color of the wrapper, did not always indicate the power of said cigar. I have really enjoyed the Ashton Maduro and the flavor profile that it provides during the smoking experience. Thank you again for all you do for the Cigar Lifestyle Community! Wishing you a blessed New year!
Hemmingway is excellent. So easy to light and i find it can be smoked down further than most others; it never accumulates too much tar. Also, others cigar smokers, do you find your pallet evolves without converging onto a final favorite, or does it converge into a flavor profile represented by a relatively narrow range of cigars? Ive only been smoking for a few months and for a while i swore on Olive serie O, then i found the La arome di Cuba Mi Amore irresistible, then the Hemmingways and now i can hardly smoke anything except a padron, preferably 1926 but most acceptaby a 1964 or more regularly Oliva serie V melanio maduro. Cheers ladies and gents.
I turned 31 in February. I mention my age because it’s time to man up. I have been satisfied with everything you recommended. Your expertise and suggestions have helped me so tremendously. Thank you. You added another huge fan!
A few sticks to try…Padron 2000 for a nice Maduro, any of the CAO Cameroon series for that wrapper, La Aroma de Cuba Monarch for a dark natural wrapper. All robusto or toro sizes are really great, not too expensive on sale. Good luck, and enjoy your cigar journey.
My favorite rapper is Cameroon My every day smokes are just Padron But I really really really love the 1964 diplomatico maduro. That’s my favorite cigar.
Maduro cigars are a bit stronger but hhe strength forces you to slow down and enjoy the cigar more The natural or lighter cigar makes a nice morning cigar that you take out to your back porch with a coffee and enjoy
I'm in my 50's now and brand new to cigars, I have got a long way to go to becoming familiar with them. Have not had my first one yet. There is no one in Australia reviewing cigar content that I know of.
I like a full cigar if its a good cigar… so many non cubans are full of taste, but the taste is like charcoal and pepper, they make you want to spit after every draw... a lot of AJ fernandez stuff is exactly that… favorite wrapper is probably an oily corojo. Spicy red. Padron and ashton make fantastic cigars in any wrapper but most cigars out there are not ashton or padron
Let it come to you naturally. Most times when I smoke a cigar I’m not overly concerned with specific tasting notes. Just enjoy the experience & flavor notes will come to you.
been smoking several years, never ever taste notes i do all the recommended ways of smoking, retro hale slow puffs, etc. i smoke many brands of premium cigars usually buy samplers. only thing i get is the tobacco will taste better on some high end brands Padron 1964,1928 etc.
Here's an idea no one has tried: package those same cigars that have the different wrappers together, so the customers can see that. Yes doing this is easy for you, you own a cigar store, but that's not realistic for the customers who 1- can't know which cigars are sibling cigars, 2- don't wish to buy 40 or 50 cigars just to try something on a whim, BUT bundled paired cigars together... would be great.
Yes he did. It's a stronger leaf that can take more fermentation. Shade grown wrappers grow larger and thinner. Non-shade grown are a little thicker. They'll take a little more heat in the fermentation process.
Depends on the brand to me. Arturo Fuente Maduro are great. Padron Maduro is way too strong for my pallet I find. To each their own I guess. Stay smoke my fellow Aficionados 🟫🟥🟫🟫🟫🟫💨💨💨

I’m with you on that. Undercrown Maduro is a top favorite. Sun grown is another wrapper that I’m partial too.

I love Maduro wrappers. I also love rich, strong and powerful cigars.

Thought maduro was just a type of wrapper, like Connecticut or candela. What distinguishes it from “natural”/what are you considering natural?
I find Madurai cigars often one dimensional, I like the complex flavors of Sungrown and Cameroon best.
