With "Do not judge anybody" comes another point: "don't feel or act as if you're beeing judged". I've seen guys smoke a 10 dollar cigar, drink a simple coffee and drive away with a 500k Ferrari afterwards. Smoke what you like, behave naturally, you're helping everybody else relaxing.

I’ve always assumed this was the decent and accepted thing, but last time I was told I could only smoke the cigar that had been purchased there, which was a new one? (No.6 cavendish in London) It was annoying as I’d taken a nice cigar from home that I’d been saving/looking forward to and had been going there since the first week they opened.
@@manuel_winde That's absurd.. But I suppose they assume the same concept from restaurants. Did you emphasize you will purchase a cigar there regardless?
I always purchase a cigar BEFORE I start smoking my own. I generally don't smoke a cigar the same day I purchase it. I prefer my cigar to sit for a month at my humidity level before enjoying it
Storytelling at its finest! I always love hearing the experiences at local lounges and the humor that goes with them. Keep it going fellas, it’s good to listen while enjoying my favorite smoke. Thanks
I live in NE Florida, and the cigar lounges around me are totally accepting of me as a pipe smoke. For any other pipe smokers out there who wonder why they might be getting a bad vibe from the staff when they come on to just smoke a pipe, heres a bit of advice: either purchase some pipe tobacco if they sell it there, even if you brought your own favorite blend to smoke, or tip the staff at the cigar counter or in the humidor. Make some kind of contribution to the establishment. And definitely ask if theyre cool with pipe tobacco. Most of them will be, sometimes they arent. Just be a decent person.
Having a Cigar myself and taking in this video made me feel like I was in the room with you gentlemen. Thanks for sharing your stories and I had a chuckle or two.
Thanks for these tips. I've committed some of these faux pas mentioned. I'll do better. TL;DR My experience.... I used to frequent a cigar lounge outside Richmond, VA about 10 years ago that I loved. I was a young guy, and I would go in the lounge a few times a week between shifts as a server at the Ruby Tuesday and a job on a horse farm. The place had very comfortable furnishings, TV's set to low volume, natural lighting, and the largest cigar selection in VA. Lloyd was the gentleman's name that I normally saw working this particular location, and he was as professional, knowledgeable, accommodating, and kind as they come. even in my server uniform, I never felt judged by him or the regulars that I came to recognize. My favorite was the Perdomo Lot 23. Not an expensive stick, but great for my budget. I'd smoke half my stick, nod off in the chair, and wake up to smoke the other half. I would leave in my 04 Honda and other folks would leave in brand new Audis and such. We all had great fellowship over cigars and hospitality. I still reminisce about that season of life.
Another great video guys! One piece of etiquette I’d add is that if you’re shopping don’t pick up a cigar that isn’t in cellophane and then put it up against your nose and then put it back. Nobody wants that. Buy it and then, when it’s yours, rub it up against your nostrils all you want. But not before. (By the way, I’m enjoying an Old Henry Pure Breed that I ordered off your site after watching your video on it. My local store is fantastic, but that’s one they just don’t carry)
Well said, we've highlighted that before in our video "Cigar 101: Cigar Shop Etiquette". If you enjoyed this video you would probably enjoy that one if you wanted to check it out 👊 Thank you for your support, glad you enjoyed the Old Henry!
It's funny too me that I've always been obsessed with cigars (it runs in the family) yet I've been watching your videos a long with other cigar channels wayyy before I started smoking them. So as a newbie going into a lounge for the first time because of what I learned from these videos I asked the tobacconist questions and told him I've never smoked one and he was extremely helpful in every way. As he asked me If I'd like for him too cut my cigar for me I say No thank you I bought a lighter and cutter from the store, cut it, toasted it, lit it properly and he looked at me like "You said you've never smoked one?" 😂 It was an amazing experience all thanks too your videos I knew how too be much more comfortable for a first timer and too be confident and not afraid too ask questions. I also remembered a very important detail and just laid my cigar down when I was done with it and let it go out on it's own. Thanks for all the helpful etiquette and tips!
I have been to many cigar lounges worldwide, and I agree with what you say. If I bring my own cigar, I will always buy a drink at least from the lounge. Support your local lounge.
Working at a cigar lounge, we don't allow cigarettes or vapes. Also, we're cool if you bring your own cigars as long as you buy a stick or10 from us. But a good rule of thumb is you don't bring your own food to a restaurant, so don't bring your own cigar to a lounge.

Amazing video as always. Been on a watching marathon lately! Would love to see you guys compare flavour by cuts. Same cigar using 3 types of cuts (straight, punch, v-cut) and explain the different flavours. Always curious to know if there's an actually difference between cigar cuts (different exposure on heat).
Far as i'm concerned it should be a removable offense. Many times i've gone into a bar that advertised smoking allowed to find out it was for cigarettes only. So tobacconists that have a lounge should allow cigars & pipes only.
I smoke cigarettes, but always step outside the lounge, and even in an outdoor patio area I'll step away from the cigar and pipe smokers. There's nothing pleasing about cigarette smoke and I know it throws off the vibe
I'm glad I didn't know you guys before when I headed to Holt’s on my way to the airport; I would have missed my flight! Mazz greeted me eagerly and politely (waiting to recognize him), the assistant recommended several cigars, and Facc worked the register, sending me off with a Holt’s lighter. A delightful visit! 😍👍❤️
If you’re starting from scratch all you need is a cutter, lighter, and humidor. If you want to smoke inside you might get yourself an air purifier as well
question...... about blowing smoke, and waving the smoke out of my face, or directing my smoke...... when you are in a lounge, sitting around others, whats the best way to handle it?
As long as you’re not deliberately blowing your smoke towards somebody you’ll be fine. No need to overthink it 👍 you can also blow the smoke straight up towards the ceiling which can help get it out of the way
I usually just blow as straight up in the air as I can and that is when I am outside .. so the smoke doesn't bother my wife . I would think with all the air filters in the store that blowing up above everyone would be good .. get it towards the air filters . People are there to smoke cigars so they know to expect smoke.
What about smoking one of your own cigars that can not be purchased at that lounge. For example I’m working out of town and bring cigars from the house with me. I’ll go to the local lounge here on Saturdays and support the lounge by buying and smoking a couple there. But I love some certain cigars that this place does not sale.
This video will help out many people specially Beginners. Appreciate you guys mentioning about "No need to lick the cigar cap" before cutting it, I see many people preaching to lick the cap, I find that unnecessary, just humidify the cigar correctly and all is good. Will also like to add if some people stop putting the cigar foot in the nostrils to smell it, I find it inappropriate to do in the lounge. Also avoid wearing strong cologne if possible.
Support the retailers, lounges & smoking rooms...or smoke 'em else where. Props to the lounge owners and the staff. Smoke 'em wit courtesy & maturity...the rest is grist. Kudos on the basic, honest lessons and guidelines in this video. The dumbest question is usually the unasked question. If you don't know, ask. Personal practice: Bring my own cutter or accept the lounge's offer to provide the cut. More courtesy tips: Walk outside if you need to talk on your celly/pacifier. Thanks for the refresher...HIT SUBSCRIBE!!!
Loved it, another thing that drives me crazy is when you have a single lady go in a lounge and the guys becomes morons and don’t let her enjoy her cigar. She is there for the same reason you are, to unwind relax and reboot before going back to reality. Not to get hit on or gawked at. Most of the time you lost that customer and it’s a shame.
Holts online store and service is the BEST (I’m in no way affiliated). Really outstanding service and quality. My only go to now- so my patio is now my lounge… (till winter). Kudos to you and your fine staff ! --Oh and great video as always :)
where I used to live I was lucky enough to have a great lounge with a great shop, but their lounge also had a bar so whenever I used to go I had options. hope to move somewhere close to a lounge again in the future, I miss the cigar community
Man I really love these videos. I live in VA, truly have a take a ride up to Philly one weekend. I purchase 95% of my cigars from Holt's so it would nice to see the shop in person.
If I smoke my own cigar in a lounge, I always buy something of equal value from the shop and I always ask prior to lighting up. So far I have NEVER had a merchant turn me down and they always appreciated that I asked first and I grabbed a stick or two before lighting up.
Robusto and Briar in Lakewood,Ohio sells both cigars and Pipe tobacco as well as pipe smoking accessories. So both are acceptable at Robusto and Briar.
You two crack me up! This video was great. Even at home on the back patio or neighbor's garage bar, I always give erveryone a hard time about putting cellophane in the ashtray! A major cigar pet peave of mine. Glad to hear it's really bad etiquette! I'll definitely pass it on to by cigar-smoking friends!
When it comes to stuff in the ashtray, if it doesn’t burn and become ash hits the name, it shouldn’t be in there. I agree all the way around what you say.
My first experience in a cigar lounge was great. I was clearly the youngest and a newb. I applied basic common curtesy that you would anywhere and everyone was very friendly. No one was a corrective dickhead. Over time I learned alot of nuances that come along with a cigar lounge. This video would have been helpful, but I also think most people there are willing to educate you politely.
8-5-8 is my daily driver so I bring my own since they dont always have them in stock…however I always make a purchase when I go in there. Usually I buy something I haven’t tried yet. Where did you get that humidor in the back corner that would look sick in my walk-in closet.
Mazz is always a pro with those long ashes! A long and even ash is a fine testament to the quality of the cigar no doubt, and certainly a compliment to the maker, but I get so anxious that when he articulates with his hand gestures, its going to fall on his nice suit right on video. Thanks for the etiquette discussion, and keep showing us how its done, gentlemen
We only have one cigar lounge here in Edmonton Canada due to indoor tobacco laws. Ours is on the reservation, which is not controlled in the same way. They have a great selection of cigars from many countries, but they also allow you to bring your own they just charge a $10 cutting fee. Thankfully, cigarettes, vapes, and weed are not permitted.
I go to a lounge/ cigar bar that is mainly a bar where they have included cigars and lockers for regulars. I always bring my own sticks, but always order drinks and tip as if i was buying from them. I have seen owners mad at others who come in groups because it’s free to come into and smoke your own and not buy even a sprite from them.
When I get together with the cigar group I smoke different sizes but usually feel more comfortable smoking a Churchill or toro when I'm on my own,I kind of lean towards the robusto size when I'm with others.
another splendid video, damn i enjoy em way 2 much :D almost forgot, is there any kind of dress code regarding cigar shop n lounge?? im tempted to visit one in a few days and i just wanted to know if i should like dress up a tiny bit to not look weird in there?
The Cigar Realm off 95, near Ashland VA, is a great "chill" spot after visiting sick relative. Some places in N VA outside DC charge $25 purchase min. for lounge...Wow!👏Wow!👏 Takin' shoes off😮Wow!!
Not having been to a lounge yet, would I expect cutters, lighters, glue to be provided? In other words can I walk in empty handed, buy a couple of sticks, and be good to go?
Most shops will provide a cutter and matches for their customers. Some, like ours, will even have a communal lighter that patrons are welcome to use. Depends where you go!
Hallo, really appreciate your advices. Wich cigar would you recomend for the first time smoking a cigar, the Davidoff signature 2000 or the Griffins no. 500?
This is why I built my own lounge in my garage. Custom built bar, a pool table, seating for 15 to 20 ppl. I’ll support the local shops when I buy cigars but if people complain about the amount of space in their lounge I’d rather just buy cigars and smoke at home.
I've been to 3 lounges here in Chicago, 2 had $50min's to hang out in the lounge, 1 had a $30. Neither of the 3 even offered me a seat after spending $100+. Should I have worn a suit?
First and foremost, I do enjoy your videos appreciate the content. I find your videos to be informative and in the true spirt of helping others fully enjoy their cigar experience . In regards to the content of this video I totally agree in patronizing the cigar lounge where you are going to enjoy the selection of cigars, atmosphere and the amenities of the lounge. What are your thoughts about the new trend in the cigar lounge where you can go in and purchase your cigars....but, if you want to enjoy the lounge, there is a monthly membership fee or even perhaps a daily fee. I have been experiencing this trend and have encountered membership fees to be $150 to $200 per month or $20 per visit. I hope I am not too off topic but I thought I would have others weigh in.
The establishment has a right to have their own rules & protocol. If you find value in it then indulge. If not find another lounge or store. Like anything else in life you have choices. Enjoy!
Had a guy walk in the local lounge and was talking with the owner about a new vape store and trying to promote it… then proceeds to take a giant rip on his vape… right before he exhales…. The lounge owner was like… you can’t vape in here it’s against our license… you better swallow. 😂
Hello Maz, I pay an annual fee for my cigar lounge. I do buy from the shop but I also buy feom holts. Is it bad form to bring my holt bought cigars since I pay a membership fee?
My wife and I frequent many local lounges in our area. I smoke cigars and I always purchase a handful and smoke one along with a few cocktails each for us. My wife smokes cigarettes and she does while I smoke my cigar
Great content as always. Ok...I get the respect and support the lounge by buying a stick when you go. But, if I'm not blessed with a space to smoke at home, where do I smoke the cigars I buy online from Holts if I have to buy a cigar every time I go to a lounge? There has to be a blending of both right? Cigar lounge owners know that the online cigar business is huge right? Fortunately, I'm able to smoke outside/garage at home. I even invested in a "winter lounge" by getting a tent and heater during the Michigan winters. Yeah, I know I got it bad, judge all you want lol. I don't go to lounges that won't let me smoke my own. I've already spent enough bread on the 200 cigars that I have at home, and to be honest my cigars were probably considerably less than the in store price (the Padrons maybe not so much but I gotta have em lol). I will buy a cigar from the lounge but not every time. So, I smoke my own when I do go to a lounge. BUT...I'll buy a couple drinks or order some food while I'm there. I also tip the staff, even if I don't buy anything. I bring my own sticks, punch/cutter, torch and repair kit. So, the staff really doesn't have to worry about making sure I'm able to smoke my cigars by cutting them or lighting them. On the rare occasion I may have them top off my torch, but I usually do that at home too. I just want to know where do the lines begin to blur between lounge etiquette/respect and those of us who buy their own but really enjoy the atmosphere and comradery of a lounge.
Using the lounge without supporting the shop! I got a BIG chuckle out of this because back in the days when my dad had markets--we HATED on the people who used our "facilities" without making a purchase. And that's why I don't--unless I'm a regular OR it's some mega corp store where the employees don't know to care. Toting your own sticks into the cigar lounge is like taking your own wine to the restaurant. It can be done, but isn't the best way.
I dont even put footbands or secondary bands or celloohane in my own ashtray at home.. let alone a public lounge. People need to recognize that cogar smoking is a fukk sensory experience and aesthetics matter.
As far as not smoking what you brought, what if you previously bought it at that store and have had it in your humidor? I typically pick up at least 2 or 3 at a time and, if I do sit down, it's usually only for 1 cigar.
With "Do not judge anybody" comes another point: "don't feel or act as if you're beeing judged". I've seen guys smoke a 10 dollar cigar, drink a simple coffee and drive away with a 500k Ferrari afterwards. Smoke what you like, behave naturally, you're helping everybody else relaxing.

question...... about blowing smoke, and waving the smoke out of my face, or directing my smoke...... when you are in a lounge, sitting around others, whats the best way to handle it?
As long as you’re not deliberately blowing your smoke towards somebody you’ll be fine. No need to overthink it 👍 you can also blow the smoke straight up towards the ceiling which can help get it out of the way
I usually just blow as straight up in the air as I can and that is when I am outside .. so the smoke doesn't bother my wife . I would think with all the air filters in the store that blowing up above everyone would be good .. get it towards the air filters . People are there to smoke cigars so they know to expect smoke.
Bad form = getting banned. Solid advice as always gentlemen! I hope to visit again one day!
Any time!
What about smoking one of your own cigars that can not be purchased at that lounge. For example I’m working out of town and bring cigars from the house with me. I’ll go to the local lounge here on Saturdays and support the lounge by buying and smoking a couple there. But I love some certain cigars that this place does not sale.
Perfectly fine & acceptable. Good form 👌🏽
I do prefer my own rum, but i don't take it with me too ;)
Thank you. It all boils down to respect your neighbors and relax.
Absolutely
This video will help out many people specially Beginners.
Appreciate you guys mentioning about "No need to lick the cigar cap" before cutting it, I see many people preaching to lick the cap, I find that unnecessary, just humidify the cigar correctly and all is good.
Will also like to add if some people stop putting the cigar foot in the nostrils to smell it, I find it inappropriate to do in the lounge.
Also avoid wearing strong cologne if possible.
Thanks for commenting 👊
👊❤
Loved it, another thing that drives me crazy is when you have a single lady go in a lounge and the guys becomes morons and don’t let her enjoy her cigar. She is there for the same reason you are, to unwind relax and reboot before going back to reality. Not to get hit on or gawked at. Most of the time you lost that customer and it’s a shame.
Well said Teddy 👏👏
Holts online store and service is the BEST (I’m in no way affiliated). Really outstanding service and quality. My only go to now- so my patio is now my lounge… (till winter). Kudos to you and your fine staff ! --Oh and great video as always :)
I agree! I just started ordering from them and their customer service is great!
Thank you for your support, we greatly appreciate it ❤
where I used to live I was lucky enough to have a great lounge with a great shop, but their lounge also had a bar so whenever I used to go I had options. hope to move somewhere close to a lounge again in the future, I miss the cigar community
“Spreading Fruity Pebble smoke all over the room!” 😂
Oh man, I would love to hear you men go on in a vodcast format like this.
Great video guys! These videos never fail to entertain and inform!
🙌
Always the best videos gentleman. Thanks for all the information you guys get out there in the world.
Thanks for watching!
Funny stories about the choking dude and cologne dude. Hilarious
Glad you enjoyed 😂
Man I really love these videos. I live in VA, truly have a take a ride up to Philly one weekend. I purchase 95% of my cigars from Holt's so it would nice to see the shop in person.
We’d love to have you in anytime, thank you for your support 🙏👊
If I smoke my own cigar in a lounge, I always buy something of equal value from the shop and I always ask prior to lighting up. So far I have NEVER had a merchant turn me down and they always appreciated that I asked first and I grabbed a stick or two before lighting up.
Awesome 👏👏
Robusto and Briar in Lakewood,Ohio sells both cigars and Pipe tobacco as well as pipe smoking accessories. So both are acceptable at Robusto and Briar.
You two crack me up! This video was great. Even at home on the back patio or neighbor's garage bar, I always give erveryone a hard time about putting cellophane in the ashtray! A major cigar pet peave of mine. Glad to hear it's really bad etiquette! I'll definitely pass it on to by cigar-smoking friends!
"Fruity Pebbles Smoke"...😂😂
Great content fellas! Looking forward to one day soon coming to visit the lounge and learn more in person.
Please do!
When it comes to stuff in the ashtray, if it doesn’t burn and become ash hits the name, it shouldn’t be in there. I agree all the way around what you say.
🙌
Thank you Brandon!
You guys are great I purchased Opus X lost city online from Holts cigar Co. Always arrived on time very well humidified thanks for your service
Great training for the rookies or youngsters ETIQUETTE is important we are there to enjoy not babysit 🍍👍🏽🇺🇸🌴🤙🏽✌🏽💙💙
Great video for first time cigar smokers who are going into a local cigar lounge!!
When I get together with the cigar group I smoke different sizes but usually feel more comfortable smoking a Churchill or toro when I'm on my own,I kind of lean towards the robusto size when I'm with others.
another splendid video, damn i enjoy em way 2 much :D
almost forgot, is there any kind of dress code regarding cigar shop n lounge?? im tempted to visit one in a few days and i just wanted to know if i should like dress up a tiny bit to not look weird in there?
Nah. No need to dress up for the occasion. Just enjoy the experience.
The Cigar Realm off 95, near Ashland VA, is a great "chill" spot after visiting sick relative. Some places in N VA outside DC charge $25 purchase min. for lounge...Wow!👏Wow!👏 Takin' shoes off😮Wow!!
Another nice video as always! I second supporting your lounge! Do you take your own food going to a restaurant?
Not having been to a lounge yet, would I expect cutters, lighters, glue to be provided? In other words can I walk in empty handed, buy a couple of sticks, and be good to go?
Most shops will provide a cutter and matches for their customers. Some, like ours, will even have a communal lighter that patrons are welcome to use. Depends where you go!
Smoking a Black Cohiba while I watch you guys.
Cheers, hope you enjoyed 🔥
Hallo, really appreciate your advices.
Wich cigar would you recomend for the first time smoking a cigar, the Davidoff signature 2000
or the Griffins no. 500?
You really can't go wrong with either, they both come from the Davidoff factory which has an impeccable reputation for quality and consistency!
Love this channel! Very beneficial when you are starting out to smoke cigars!
This is why I built my own lounge in my garage. Custom built bar, a pool table, seating for 15 to 20 ppl.
I’ll support the local shops when I buy cigars but if people complain about the amount of space in their lounge I’d rather just buy cigars and smoke at home.
Awesome man. I also prefer to smoke at home as well.
Facc I laughed out loud at that one. That’s hilarious. The complimentary after shave.
It's funny when you said "12 seats", when almost every cigar louge in my country is 2 steats maybe 4 😂
I’m in a small town but mine has 40 seats spread through 2 large rooms and gets crowded sometimes. Awesome place and vibe so I feel blessed
I always buy a cigar and a drink the cigar lounge I go to has a sign that says cigar smoking only
The fruity pebbles bit and then the guy fixing to get clocked, sent me 🤣🤣🤣
😂😂😂
I've been to 3 lounges here in Chicago, 2 had $50min's to hang out in the lounge, 1 had a $30. Neither of the 3 even offered me a seat after spending $100+. Should I have worn a suit?
It's sad that in California, cigar lounges have pretty much disappeared
💔
I know of a few down in the LA. Area, and up in Santa Barbara. but yeah, you're right, they're dwindling.😢
Good Evening 😊 Awesome and informative video👏🏼 Thanks for sharing 👍🏼 Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
Enjoy!
Good points on keeping trash out of the ashtray.
I have tossed my bands into the ashtray and will try to refrain in the future.
Had a guy walk in the local lounge and was talking with the owner about a new vape store and trying to promote it… then proceeds to take a giant rip on his vape… right before he exhales…. The lounge owner was like… you can’t vape in here it’s against our license… you better swallow. 😂
😂
You didn't tell us the story about the hand sanitizer. I was waiting for that one
We'll save it for another video 😂
Great video guys! All of the cigar lounge rules can be summed up in two words - common courtesy.
Amen 🙌
Hello Maz, I pay an annual fee for my cigar lounge. I do buy from the shop but I also buy feom holts. Is it bad form to bring my holt bought cigars since I pay a membership fee?
If you support the store where you are a member I see no issue with that. We have regulars that do the same. All good
My wife and I frequent many local lounges in our area. I smoke cigars and I always purchase a handful and smoke one along with a few cocktails each for us. My wife smokes cigarettes and she does while I smoke my cigar
Hihi, is there a specific attire that one needs to adhere to when visiting a lounge?
It depends on the lounge but in most cases, no. If you're unsure give the lounge a call and ask!
@@holtscigars Alright thanks!
New to the channel and I been thinking about going to a lounge and this has helped cause I always think about people judging me for what I smoke
No need to worry 👊
Ok to clip cap into ashtray along with used matches?
Absolutely!
As long as you show them some form of support and they don't have an issue then you're all good! Thank you for your support
“Filling the room with your fruity notes” 😂😂 noted
😂
“Spreading Fruity Pebbles smoke in the room”😂 That was my laugh of the day, great video to bring awareness about the lounge.
😂
I won't even use a gas station restroom without buying something
Using the lounge without supporting the shop! I got a BIG chuckle out of this because back in the days when my dad had markets--we HATED on the people who used our "facilities" without making a purchase.
And that's why I don't--unless I'm a regular OR it's some mega corp store where the employees don't know to care.
Toting your own sticks into the cigar lounge is like taking your own wine to the restaurant. It can be done, but isn't the best way.
Agreed 🙌
I have a question, once the cigar has extinguished, do you need to cut the burnt tip for you light again, or do you just light it the way it is
Get rid of the ash and light it back up 🔥
Enjoyed the show. LOL! I need to visit your shop and I will when I get back east. Cheers!
Please do!
@@holtscigars Do NOT choke patrons. Got it. 😁 Cheers. Keep up the great content.
😂👊
I dont even put footbands or secondary bands or celloohane in my own ashtray at home.. let alone a public lounge. People need to recognize that cogar smoking is a fukk sensory experience and aesthetics matter.
As far as not smoking what you brought, what if you previously bought it at that store and have had it in your humidor? I typically pick up at least 2 or 3 at a time and, if I do sit down, it's usually only for 1 cigar.
They shouldn't have a problem if you got the cigar there and are a repeat customer. Never hurts to ask if you aren't sure
