Unsolicited tip for new Cigar smokers: To avoid teeth yellowing, immediately after my last cigar puff, I walk to the bathroom to quickly brush my teeth and tongue. The longer you wait the more time tar has in your mouth to stain your teeth.... Cheers!!
I also rinse prior to brushing with hydrogen peroxide for like thirty seconds….it’s amazing how it cares for your teeth, gums, and mouth sides of your mouth 👍

@@darajohnson9443 Like most, I like the smell of a fresh cigar, however it won't give you any insight to the flavor profile of the blend, it just smells like tobacco. Most shops frown on this because it's a hygienic concern, and is a common rookie mistake.
Well-done, Anthony. For anyone who concludes they’re miles past all of this, look-up and out. There are certainly friends or neighbors who may be open-minded enough to appreciate a video like this shared to them. I wish I had this kind of a rundown when I started smoking cigars a year ago.
I don't smoke, never have, but every December my old friends and I hang out like time has never passed, we drink and have a good time. Last year it was brought up that we should try a round of cigars, so this year we're gonna all try some and I've been doing my research. Super excited for this year.
I've just started researching cigars and came across the Holt’s channel. You are an excellent resource. I look forward to diving into your videos to learn more about cigar etiquette, brands, history, flavors, etc.
I was at a BBQ and a buddy who is really into cigars was offering them around and I initially refused. There was something nostalgic about the smell of the smoke and it made me think of my grandfather who enjoyed smoking cigars. Then he came over and offered me my first cigar. I was instantly hooked and now I enjoy a few a year just to unwind, relax and feel that my grandfather is looking down on me and enjoying one there with me. I'm also looking for a recommendation on a nice lighter. I liked the cylinder one from this video. I'll watch again and see if it was mentioned.

This video is great and the info about not being able to taste notes right away is something I needed to hear - I'm still working on that bit when it comes to smoking. Cheers!

My first real cigar shop experience, about nine years ago, I told the shop owner “point me to something Schwarzenegger would smoke” and he handed me a Cain Straight Ligero. That has been my favorite ever since. I love the heavy, dark, peppery smoke.
This is great information for a beginner cigar smoker. I will definitely share this info with those who are making their way to this lifestyle that we live. Thank you for all you do and the knowledge you share with us.
Just starting my journey with premium cigars. I used to smoke cigarettes, many years ago, and when I smoked cigars, it was the over the counter, machine made. We all know these brands :D. I also inhaled, which turned me off to them. I have had a handful of cigars so far, and the difference it makes I want to thank Mazz for these videos. Great work, great information, and a great help.
New smoker here (a few months in). Thanks for the tip about relighting once you ash it! I would just keep smoking after I ashed it, and a lot of the time it would start burning unevenly and drive me crazy! I'm a big fan of retro-haling because I don't like the taste of smoke in my mouth. Right now, I'm loving the My Father line....particularly My Father The Judge! Love your channel!!!
@jalaalkhan8214 hi mate. I really enjoyed it! I liked the whole 'experience' quite chilled out time. Not coughing my lungs up (I'm not a smoker but have tried and cigarettes taste like crap) I didn't burn it in well though, it was burning down the one side more than the other. I smoked a Monte Cristo Habana.
@@holtscigars definitely. Not a smoker as the whole inhaling made me cough, plus cigarettes taste like crap! Do you guys have a shop that supplies the UK?

after 9 years of smoking cigars , I realised that its all about Location and just kick back ;) My Favorites are : - Untamed By La Aurora - Kentucky Fired cured - Rocky patel Candela - Camacho liberty Series ( 2016!)
Great video. Good to see an good overview of tips. Even though Ive been enjoying cigars for some time I’ve never considered relighting after ashing unless it went out. That explains the occasional wonky burn issues. Good tip!
I am a year into my cigar Journey. I started because my Son was getting married and was going to have a cigar bar and I wanted to participate. Over the year, I’ve watched so many of your videos. Thanks for all the great tips and information. I would like to say it has been zero bad experiences but no…. Only a few. For the mow part I have really enjoyed the whole experience from learning about Cigars and The variety out there. A lot of good people I. This industry and “fan base” 😂. Up until recently I’ve been struggling to differentiate notes. Sure some have been stronger that others but most very similar. Until last week, I swear I tasted cream sweetness in the first 1/3 ! Thanks for all the great videos. Also, the way you two say spice cracks me up! 😂😂😂
We always say don't worry about tasting notes they eventually find you and it rings true every time. Thanks for watching! Glad to have you with us on your cigar journey 👊
I’ve been smoking for a while and still learning. Great “keeping it simple” tips, especially relighting after you ash…I was literally today years old (53) when I learned that😮
I'm only a very occasional smoker, and I have always had a super super big curiosity about cigars from watching old cartoons, where there is a big fat mobster boss that smokes a gigantic cigar. I bought one yesterday (H. Upman cuban one), and I can honestly say after watching this video, it was one of the nicest experiences I have had as far as smokes go. They taste nothing like traditional cigarettes, no harsh nicotine burns (I didn't inhale!)... It was just a very nice experience. They certainly were not cheap at 30 EUR a pop, but for a special occasion I think they would be worth it. Thank you for making this video! I was very intimated by them at first until I watched.
When I first started I kept tunneling every cigar and I finally went to my local cigar lounge and a nice old man taught me how to do it and the flavor difference and the burn being even made me fall Inlove with premium cigars
I used to smoke cigarettes and have no intention to start smoking cigars but it was a pleasure to watch and listen about your passion! Very fine and educational video!
I have been smoking cigars for over 30 years. I'm embarrassed to say... I have rarely tasted anything more than one "taste". Yet there are cigars I enjoy and others I don't.
I’m a casual smoker, 2 to 3 a week, so I will spend a bit more to buy a few really good cigars than someone who is buying 30 a week and doesn’t want to mortgage their house for the hobby. Having said that, I do pick up some flavours but I sure don’t sweat it if I don’t, because I’m having a cigar to relax, not analyze it.
New cigar smoker here and I got started after one of my senior coworkers gifted me one after we talked tobacco and I found out he was a long time cigar smoker. Sometimes I’d literally see him drive away, after work, with a stogie in his mouth.😂 I shamefully fumbled some stuff here. Used my pocket knife to cut the cap off, luckily below the head and lit it up with a butane torch I bought from a gas station. Only thing I know I got right was I did not inhale. Just puffed it while watching a movie in my garage. It was when I hit that “sweet spot” mentioned here that I started to notice a creamy sensation on my tongue and note of vanilla and other spices as I was puffing it while drinking a glass of mead that was aged in oak bourbon barrel (shout out to Lost Cause Meadery). Fell in love with cigars after that!
The Ashton classic is still by far one of my favorites. To my palate it has the cleanest distinct refined cedar note of any cigar I ever had. The overall profile taste is just phenomenal to me for a well blended mild cigar. It may be mild but it’s got flavor for sure and a very very good flavor
I’ll be in a humidor with my phone checking if what ever cigar has a Holts review or recent review video. I dont have too many cigar shops near me. So I find myself walking into smoke shops with humidors. I find cool stuff but usually the people working there have more knowledge on bongs than cigars.
I'am begginer with smoking cigars a your channel is very good, your tips are just what I needed. I enjoy listening to you talking about how to smoke cigars. Thank you and keep doing this great job. Saying hi from CZ. 🙏🏻🤓
I'm not a cigar novice or a cigar afficionado, I call myself a cigar enthusiast. I've made every mistake you mentioned when I first got into cigars, I didn't ask questions, and I didn't have the resources to really find those tips and best practices. The first cigar I bought was an ONYX Reserve, which should not be a beginner cigar. I had a very bad experience. It almost made me quit my cigar journey. However, after enough experience, enough mistakes, and finding these very valuable beginner tips you are providing, I came back to that ONYX Reserve, and now it's my favorite. That enjoyment from what was once a bad experience is because of great afficionados like you. I wish I had the RUclips in my youth lol.
I just smoked my first cigar and your video really helped! It almost burnt down perfectly and I really loved the experience! Btw it was the Montosa Churchill. Thank you for this video and greetings from Germany!
I don’t smoke, but ever since I saw that the French Laundry has their very own “cigar sommelier”, I knew I had to try one there after dinner, and a video like this was just what a guy like me who’s new to cigars needed!!! Thanks😊👍
Cigars are best enjoyed in one sitting. When a cigar goes out, the longer it sits the more the flavor will be affected if you were to relight it. Some enthusiasts like coming back to cigars later on, but we don't typically recommend it. Give it a shot and see what you enjoy more!
Thank you so much my coworker gifted me an Ashton classic cigar for Halloween and I've been nervous to smoke it because I didn't wanna mess it up I bought a classic guillotine cutter and a butane torch to get started now I know how to properly enjoy it
I'm a cigarette smoker of 10 years.. you've pretty much sold me on the notion that I've been smoking all wrong this whole time.. guess I'll be switching this next pay day to cigars XD
Wow, I just learned a lot today, seeing the Blanton's bottle on the shelf made me pour myself a nice bourbon with my first cigar, a Romeo y Julieta, the lady at my tobacco shop suggested it would be a good first cigar, it worked for me, but thanks for this very precise video, I wouldn't have enjoyed it or understood it the same way without this !
I appreciate your telling of the feeling of greatness when you smoke I also do this when I get my hair cut and it's always good to mk sure we reward ourselves daily with what we all do!!!!
Thanks for the video, up here in Ontario and I received a Monte Cristo my friends picked up in the Dominican. I am planning to smoke it with them at their wedding and this video helped, going to buy a cutter and a tray to do it right and may get into the hobby 👍🙏 merci !
I've been smoking cigars occasionally for the past few years , unfortunately here in the uk cigars are extortionate and you won't get a decent premium cigar under £20 (I don't know what that is in dollars) but your videos are great , keep up the good work.
Mazz, I have been enjoying your videos and short clips ever since I have subscribed to the channel. I am glad to find you guys as you given me so much information and reason of how cigars can be enjoyable time compare to when I first started smoking them in college.
I took this exact advice and quickly found out I like the stronger side rather then the lighter cigars but glad I started light because it gave me some more anticipation and made it much more interesting then it would have been otherwise.
Thank you for the tips!! Started smoking cigars back in 02 in the marine corps. My local place was cigar grotto in oceanside, ca. I was afraid to ask questions! my best friend turned me on to my favorite cigar. Sweet by dirt. I've expanded my Verizon's. I love a great cigar when drinking a good whiskey and grilling! That's a happy day!
Been smoking cigars for years now but I wanted to check a couple of videos. Sir, you have created the go to manual on how to enjoy a cigar. A lot of things come up as you go, making mistakes sometimes and realizing a better way. My favorite cigar right now is my father flor de las antillas sungrow and maduro, specially toro gordo, they are so tasty, I also like partagas 1845 from The D.R. Hopefully I will get a cuban made one soon. Cheers mate!
Oh my first toscano! They are a true Entry Level haven! No cut to do just light it, and enjoy it. I'm smoking a Garibaldi right now and the kentucky tobacco flavour, to me, is peak tobacco experience.
Ain’t nothing like smoking a cigar at 12:30 in the morning In your drive way when the world quiets down and it’s just you, your cigar, and your thoughts…I’m not a sophisticated man by no means but it’s somthing about that tranquility that’s dose it for me
I had questioned the band removal. I just started smoking cigars myself. I think I'll do what you said. Besides that this whole video has been super helpful. Thanks so much!

Thank you for watching and sharing!
Just starting my journey with premium cigars. I used to smoke cigarettes, many years ago, and when I smoked cigars, it was the over the counter, machine made. We all know these brands :D. I also inhaled, which turned me off to them.
I have had a handful of cigars so far, and the difference it makes
I want to thank Mazz for these videos. Great work, great information, and a great help.
The table/cutter method is brilliant. Wish I knew that method 25 years ago
Better late than never 😂
New smoker here (a few months in).
👊🔥
Ordered my first ever Cigar. Will smoke it Sunday - father's day! Looking forward to it.
How'd the experience go😅
Hope you enjoyed!
@jalaalkhan8214 hi mate. I really enjoyed it! I liked the whole 'experience' quite chilled out time. Not coughing my lungs up (I'm not a smoker but have tried and cigarettes taste like crap)
I didn't burn it in well though, it was burning down the one side more than the other.
I smoked a Monte Cristo Habana.
@@holtscigars definitely. Not a smoker as the whole inhaling made me cough, plus cigarettes taste like crap! Do you guys have a shop that supplies the UK?
i am new to cigar world but this video helped me learn the ways of a cigar and I really enjoyed the gentleman explaining the ritual of a cigar. thank you and cant wait to try ashtons and have them in my collection
Thank you Anthony I'm a non smoker but i enjoy your videos.
Happy to have you here either way 👊
I start to smoke cigar year ago .. and still learning from ppl who has experience like you , thank you
I love your videos. I have learned so much. I appreciate these videos to help new cigar smokers (like myself). I have already tried a couple of your cigar recommendations and you have not disappointed. Thanks for being my "cigar teacher."
Glad to hear it, thanks for watching!
after 9 years of smoking cigars , I realised that its all about Location and just kick back ;)
My Favorites are :
- Untamed By La Aurora
- Kentucky Fired cured
- Rocky patel Candela
- Camacho liberty Series ( 2016!)
Mazz,
Always enjoy these. Well as always., Thanks again for all you do… blessings from Gettysburg Pa….
Im a new cigar lover, i have found a big love for the Acid cigars, especially the Blonde sticks.
Great video. Good to see an good overview of tips. Even though Ive been enjoying cigars for some time I’ve never considered relighting after ashing unless it went out. That explains the occasional wonky burn issues. Good tip!
I'm guilty also. That's why you get those areas where it seems it's not going evenly.
Glad to see this channel growing. Love what you’re doing.
Much appreciated!
@@holtscigars I just subbed!! ‼️‼️😃
An excellent introduction for new smokers. Keep it coming.
I used to smoke cigarettes and have no intention to start smoking cigars but it was a pleasure to watch and listen about your passion! Very fine and educational video!
Thank you!
I have been smoking cigars for over 30 years. I'm embarrassed to say... I have rarely tasted anything more than one "taste". Yet there are cigars I enjoy and others I don't.
That’s all that matters 👊🏽
I’m a casual smoker, 2 to 3 a week, so I will spend a bit more to buy a few really good cigars than someone who is buying 30 a week and doesn’t want to mortgage their house for the hobby. Having said that, I do pick up some flavours but I sure don’t sweat it if I don’t, because I’m having a cigar to relax, not analyze it.
New cigar smoker here and I got started after one of my senior coworkers gifted me one after we talked tobacco and I found out he was a long time cigar smoker. Sometimes I’d literally see him drive away, after work, with a stogie in his mouth.😂
I shamefully fumbled some stuff here.
Fat bottom Betty robusto all day long
It's almost as if cigars are for successful men whome cannot partake in premium cannabis as they did in a prior chaper of their life! ❤
You could make the cigars come to you 😉
I'am begginer with smoking cigars a your channel is very good, your tips are just what I needed. I enjoy listening to you talking about how to smoke cigars. Thank you and keep doing this great job. Saying hi from CZ. 🙏🏻🤓
Glad the content is helpful thank you for watching 🙏
Thanks Anthony, you are making me a better cigar smoker 😉. 👍🏾
I just started smoking West Tampa cigars, wonderful cigars that I wish i knew about sooner but my all time favorite is the Plasencia Hexagon.
I quit 25 years ago. After watching this, I'm back in.
Haha, be careful
i will not forget my first cigar in 2021...Montecristo White Label. ...few weeks later, i tried a Partagas and a Romeo and Julieta...great vid
Good Evening 😊 Thanks for sharing a very informative video👌🏽 Have a great day & Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
Better late than never! Thank you for sharing, glad you enjoyed the video 👊
Great video, you are one of the best in the cigar world
Much appreciated 🙏
I've been a cigar smoker for 20+ years. I enjoyed this clip and learned something. Thanks!
Cheers!
I just smoked my first cigar and your video really helped! It almost burnt down perfectly and I really loved the experience! Btw it was the Montosa Churchill. Thank you for this video and greetings from Germany!
Glad to hear you enjoyed!
I don’t smoke, but ever since I saw that the French Laundry has their very own “cigar sommelier”, I knew I had to try one there after dinner, and a video like this was just what a guy like me who’s new to cigars needed!!! Thanks😊👍
Do you have to smoke all the cigar in one go or how do you store it if you’re going to go back to it later.
Cigars are best enjoyed in one sitting. When a cigar goes out, the longer it sits the more the flavor will be affected if you were to relight it. Some enthusiasts like coming back to cigars later on, but we don't typically recommend it. Give it a shot and see what you enjoy more!
I’m getting into the Cigar Culture and I freaking love it. I got put onto the Perdomo Lot 23 Maduro and its absolutely wonderful
Then you're definitely in the right place! Whoever put you on the Lot 23 knows their stuff 🔥
I'm 18, and i've always wanted to try cigars 🙃 this video is hella helpful bro
Thank you so much my coworker gifted me an Ashton classic cigar for Halloween and I've been nervous to smoke it because I didn't wanna mess it up I bought a classic guillotine cutter and a butane torch to get started now I know how to properly enjoy it
Glad we could help!
I'm in my mid-thirties, been smoking since 12 and trying to quit cigarettes and transition into cigars for now, Thank you for this video 🙏🙏🙏
I'm a cigarette smoker of 10 years.. you've pretty much sold me on the notion that I've been smoking all wrong this whole time.. guess I'll be switching this next pay day to cigars XD
Well I‘m a NonSmoker but after this vid I would like to smoke a cigar
Just go light, I’m going the same way too
Thank you Thank you Thank you! This video changed my new look on me starting in the cigar world.
Instructions unclear. Al Capone and his goons broke down my door and held me at gunpoint
Glad the video helped! Cheers
Now teach me about drink and women
I appreciate your telling of the feeling of greatness when you smoke I also do this when I get my hair cut and it's always good to mk sure we reward ourselves daily with what we all do!!!!
No doubt!
Step one: steal dad's when I was 13 lol
Thanks for the video, up here in Ontario and I received a Monte Cristo my friends picked up in the Dominican. I am planning to smoke it with them at their wedding and this video helped, going to buy a cutter and a tray to do it right and may get into the hobby 👍🙏 merci !
also.... smoking cigars are not what this dude says.. its not what anyone says.. its only what you think, what you like......
Well said, we say all the time taste is personal, and enjoyment is always the #1 priority 👍
He literally said this in the vid goofy
Yah that's what he said. You lack the cigar gentleman etiquette. 😂
I’ve been smoking cigars since 2020 and have come to really enjoy them. I learned a lot in this video, thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Glad to hear it Mark, thanks for sharing!
I took this exact advice and quickly found out I like the stronger side rather then the lighter cigars but glad I started light because it gave me some more anticipation and made it much more interesting then it would have been otherwise.
Absolutely!
Glad the content was helpful, thanks for watching!
Anytime, thanks for watching 👊
