I finally got around to trying this since I hadn't been feeling too well and was told boiled plantains were good for the stomach then I remembered this video. This is my new favorite soup, I make a batch of 5 cups every week and take a cup with me to work everyday, I love love love this soup!

Ida, I have a question. Why do you add onions and cilantro to your recipes when you have all of that in you homemade sofrito? Wouldn't you just add extra sofrito?

This looks delicious. Now I'm wondering could you add chunks of ham or chorizo or would those additions change the flavor profile?
Dolores Boston It would, but I would cook it separately and add it before eating.
You can also add a little finely diced chicken or pork to make it a bit more robust. And a sprig of Cilantro also adds a little color.
I can't get all ingredients for the sofrito. Is the sofrito mandatory or can I replace it with other things?
