Aida your the best. I'm a black woman that cooks great american food but you put me on the map with your authentic Puerto rican recipes. My Puerto Rican friends love it. 😊. your such a outstanding cook, i discovered you not long ago.
These videos are great Thank you. I also have a cook book purchase late 79’s in PR called Puerto Rican Cookery by Valldejuli still sold today lots of easy recipes..
Like having your own grandma teach you how to cook stuff. This is how it would look in a restaurant too so it looks right. =3 These go good with sauce too. I also eat these with Goya Hot Sauce. That sauce is really versatile and goes well with most puerto rican dishes. =3
Yauita in English is what Jamaicans and some west Indian people call coco / Taro root and there are some variations of them. If my memory serves me right the word Yautia is the native name for the root given by the indigenous Indians who were the inhabitants of Puerto Rico the Caribbean/west indies and the rest of the Americas. Thank you for sharing your recipe, I grew up eating these.
Two Puerto Rican dishes I've always wanted to make were alcapurrias and pasteles and was too scared to make them and they turn out horrible but now after watching this video I feel confident in cooking alcapurrias... you make it seem so easy!
Ims so glad I found u. My abuelita passed away and everyday I cry for her. Theres still so much she didn't get to show me. I want to learn so my kids grow up with our culture food and I get to spoil my grand babes in the future with delicious authentic PR food. Thank you ♥️
I love these! I’m a black/ Panamanian and grew up in East Harlem eating these. Thank you for the recipe. I can’t wait to try to make them. I can cook soul food really well and I’m ready to expand other cultures. I also loved your video on pasteles. ❤️❤️❤️
hi I was born in PR but raised in Rochester New York. I love my Spanish food and I didn't know how to do it . but now I can do it with all the good flavors of my country thank you so much for your video and it's an English that I can understand it. I do speak Spanish but I can't read and write it so having this in English means so much to me. Love your videos.
The memories!!! I have to make these for my son because it looks like my moms. He never got to taste abuelas alcapurrias because she passed when he was still a baby. Thank you mi Reina! Bendiciones.
Yautia-Taro root. Back in the day My mom used to make all those things. She made a living selling them. She taught me that if you put guineos verdes and plátanos verdes in very hot tap water for a little while, they are easier to peel. It works. Also when she was going to make things with yuca, she scored it like a platano and then peeled it the same way. Much easier than using a potato peeler. Love you videos. Keep them coming. Gracias
Thank you, I like the easy calm way you show how to make all this tasty meals. In many cases we remember eating this food, but never learned how to cook all those wonderful dishes.
thanks so much! My husband is Puerto Rican and I am Mexican American. These are his favorite Puerto Rican food and I promised I would but my cooking skill to the test by making these for him! You broke it down so easily for me and I will make his day by making these for him.

You taught me how to make arroz con gandules...THANK YOU!!! I love your channel. you are like an aunt or something just cooking in her kitchen. Relaxed and easy, I learn a lot from you Miss.
Hey @Sweets and Beyond, in order to make pealing plantains easier I usually run them through hot water for a few minutes, then when you make the first slit you can just peel the whole plantain in a few clean swipes its awesome because when I make mangu it makes the whole process much easier. I hope that this tip helps bc it is certainly a life saver for me bc lord knows i hated peeling platanos w a passion haha.
Oh my Goddess this brought me to tears. This is the BEST tutorial of one of my most favorite treats. The recipe was lost on my family but I cannot believe how identical it is to Pasteles!! Thank you so much for taking the time to make this!!

I learned that if you drop the green bananas and plantains in boiling water for 2 minutes, they peel easier.
yes. or just sit them under running hot water. it works great, less time consuming
But you also slice on the side slightly and cut both ends of the platano or green banana. WEPA
True but I don't think it'll taste the sams
You remind me of my younger days I learned on the island how to cook these dishes from generous lovely ladies like yourself
Carlota Chmielewski but it also starts to cook the banana which you don’t want for this. I use that technique when I am cooking them but if you need them raw the boiling water changes the texture
Love it thank you for sharing ❤ they sure look good
You make everything look easy and well described!

That looks so delicious! Thank you my mouth is watering! Great job.👍🏼
Thank you so much. You did an awesome job explaining the process. I will definitely make a batch.
Yautia is called Taro root in english
Yautía is not taro root though, in Puerto Rico taro root is called malanga. Both are delicious nonetheless.
here's a cool explanation I found. www.thespruce.com/taro-malanga-eddo-whats-the-difference-2138083
hudvalboy ,
That's interesting, in Haiti we call Yautia "Malanga"! We have another root vegetable that we call taro "tayo". As far as I know, malanga is the African name for yautia, some caribbean countries call it malanga & some yautia. I'm sure there are other names floating around.......
Both are types of taro root. Yautia is Xanthosoma sagittifolium (blue taro root), and Malanga is Xanthosoma roseum.
I learned how to cook as I got order as a single parent I became a good cook by learning Spanish recipes from Spanish people like you thank you and god bless
Hi- The translation for the root vegetable in the English Caribbean is coco. Some have a purplish tinge and others white. Thanks for the great recipe
Thank you. You explain it so well....I will try it

In English and perhaps other languages, “Yautía” can be translated to Cocoyam or Taro. Yet, perhaps it may be very similar but not the exact root vegetable. Thank you for your video, I’ll be sharing it!
You explained it very good. Thank you 😊
let the bananas sit in hot or warm water for 30 minutes peels but first cut the corners off... Peels faster and wont damage the bananas...
Thank you for your informative video. I love these, and just got back from the island 2 weeks ago to visit my cousins. I had some in Pinones.
Now I'm going to give you a little tip that works for me when I peel those bananas. I put them in hot, hot water for about 1/2 hour. If the water gets cold I put in more hot water. After a while, the peel comes off much easier. The banana does not cook in the hot water--it just gets warm.
Now to get the ingredients because I am making those today. They make them with yucca too!
FYI - Found the translation for yautia, is "Tarro Root". I just finished making your recipe! Awesome = Muchas Gracias!
