I'm not Puerto Rican but I grew up in a neighborhood called Sunset Park in Brooklyn, NYC where Boriquas rule the roost. All of Ida's dishes that I've made so far have been beyond tasty. Definitely transports me back to dinner at many an Abuela's household. Her sofrito recipe is my go-to when I want to be reminded of the bold, authentic flavors inherent to Caribbean Latin dishes. Thanks Ida!

uses a separate clean separate spoon to taste the pot. that is the way I was taught. need to use a "clean washed spoon" every time you you taste for seasoning. unless you are cooking it for your individual self. imagine the cook using the dirty spoon over & over.

Omg Mija you literally brought tears to my eyes. I’m watching to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner for the 1st time without my parents. Now this isn’t a sad story..they went on vacation and we are missing them terribly. But I’m stepping up and making sure I make this great para todo mi familia.
P.s. I’m definitely a Mommas boy but what puerto son could ever be less than mother’s baby!! I wear the title proudly.

Yeah, the first time I made this I didn't cook my sofrito enough, and I didn't have the ham packet. It was very good, but not quite there. Did everything the 2nd time almost to a T of her instructions and it was fucking phenomenal and had the right color!
