I’ve noticed increased traffic for this video over the past few months. When my new laptop comes in, I’ll try my best to make an updated video while being shorter. Edit: The new laptop came in & I sent it back. Probably not gonna buy another one
Thanks for the video, I am an auditory sensitive person.I am currently using a 9 year old fujitsu whose fans are driving me crazy. I would like to buy an alienware m15 r6 or X14 and hook it up to a 4k monitor. I would only use for excel and word(I am a student)(I don't play games) I was afraid that the fans will be noisy(I will be working even 12 hours a day on this computer) but I see that you have a 4k monitor connected and even the fans did not turn on. Now I know that it is worth buying this laptop especially that it costs only $300 more than aurora and I gain mobility . :)
Damn, I've already done ALL of this stuff, and I managed to increase my battery life from 1.5 hours to 2.5 hours... A god damn shame. I also don't have optimus supported on my 300Hz display and Dell won't downgrade it even if I pay them. Dell pretty much won't do anything to help you if you're past the 30 day return window, no matter what warranty you have. Kinda pissed with my smooth-brained purchase. After all my changes, my laptop literally runs like a 2003 windows XP piece of shit (cpu max usage is 7%), but still lasts only 2 hours LOL! Don't get me wrong, when it's plugged in, it's a god damn beast and is 3x better than any desktop I've had, but I just don't understand why it's so difficult for it to conserve power when just sitting on the desktop! Since I can't return it, I'm fucked and I just have to spend all my money on some high-end portable battery packs to charge on the go.
@@SiGuy_YT I think it should work out okay, but honestly if I wasn't about to start college, the amount of absolute performance delivered by this laptop is outstanding and I would be totally fine compromising battery life for it. Hopefully wall outlets are plentiful at my university HAHA
This is a very good video many of the stuf explained here exept the alienware exclusive stuf also work on other laptops. I have a acer nitro laptop and managed to increase my battery life from 4 hours to 8 hours battery life
I have a m15 r7 (3070ti + 240hz qhd) and the battery life is terrible (around 2h). Some options in the video are unavailable in the new model, such as undervolting the CPU and GPU, missing power plans (even creating new ones is very limited) and background apps tab was removed.
Been having battery issues. When the battery is at 100%, after 6 hours the battery will be at 5% WITH the charger plugged in. Sucks. Getting a new battery, hopefully that will fix it. I had the original battery for about 1.5 years. Should've gotten a desktop.
Bro, my computer could be at 100% and if I unplug it, it will have 1.5 hours left before it dies, even if I am already on battery saver mode. Thanks for the vid!
@@SiGuy_YT Yes, because I am playing on my laptop and I can not remove the battery because it is inside the laptop .... Is there a way to not charge the battery when the charger cord is connected ?
Alienware most likely locked everything down. You might want to give throttle stop a try, but I’m unfamiliar with that application. I suggest checking out some videos on it first.
At this point, there’s really nothing you can do. Some laptops like my M15 R3 have improved the battery life. You have a high refresh screen or Nvidia Optimus? This video is about a years old, things are different now.
Greetings, I'm trying this for alienware m15 r7 rtx 3080 model. QHD, 240 hz. 1. disable gpu in alienware cc ( is it better to disable in disk management? ) 2. lower refresh rate to 60hz 3. keep the brightness to min 4. keep the fans off 5. Advanced power options- max cpu processing on battery mode to 90% I've made a normal profile with rtx gpu disabled, and my fans keep kicking it up, running almost always. ( I live in india where its pretty hot, most times ). Any tips on how i can regulate fans to save battery life? Getting less than 2 hours of battery life sadly and i want to learn more to optimize this. My laptop is discharging at -67k .. so thats serious. i would greatly appreciate some more advice.
@@SiGuy_YT I have the intel i7 12700H CPU. with a few tabs of chrome, torrent, alienware cc, msi open- the temps show 53 to 58. during gaming, it goes upto 78, 80s ( skyrim with mods, will learn using throttlestop ). I have been able to see optimal battery usage thanks to these tips. now 60% of the battery says 190 min remaining with wifi off and all. not so great now, is it :(
also.. the custom charge settings in bios are messing up. i set up start 50 and stop 80. it worked fine for 1 day and suddenly the battery stops charging at 74% !! should i be worried ?
Since this is an Intel chip, there’s not much you can do now with all the tweaks. This video quite old & I’m pretty sure there’s better optimizations out there. My only suggestion would be to get a USB C charger for on the go since the battery doesn’t last long. My M15 R3 supported type C charging, so I assume the newer ones can do that as well.
I use alieware x17 r1 and its design capacity is 87k , 4 month later full capacity went down to 84997 and I don't understand why, I didn't play while not charging it (it can obviously be detrimental) but any other reasons?
Hmm, I’m not exactly sure what’s the reason behind that. Is your always at 100%? I heard that having your battery just constantly at 100% is not the best thing to do
@@SiGuy_YT yeah it might be one of the reason. So would you recommend to calibrate it first and then put the bottleneck to 80 % instead of 100% so basically it wont surpass it?
Yeah, that’s sounds like a good idea. Hopefully the battery doesn’t degrade as much overtime. Also, with my previous Alienware laptops, the design capacity & the full capacity were different, even brand new. That’s probably just how they are.
From what I know, if there's no advanced option in Alienware Command Center, then you're unable to use Alienware Command Center to undervolt your CPU. It's most likely locked. You can try an app like ThrottleStop. They're plenty of youtube tutorials out there
@@SiGuy_YT Okay, thank you. I will give Throttlestop a try. Also, my laptop is pulling around 50 Watts of power even though I've done all steps as mentioned in the video apart from underclocking the CPU.
@@SiGuy_YT Okay, So earlier I didn't underclocked the CPU and the refresh rate was 300Hz(i forgot to decrease it), but now I underclocked CPU using ThrottleStop and put down refresh rate to 60Hz. Still laptop is pulling 40 Watts of power. I'm so confused rn. I'm only getting around 1 hr 45 mins battery life even on power mode.
You know what, now that you mentioned it. That 300hz monitor doesn't have nivida optimus. It's using your Nvidia GPU to also run your system. That drains a lot of battery
Hmm, I suggest making sure the cpu stays cool so the fans won’t kick on. I have noticed that when the fans are running, you’ll get significantly less battery life. To conserve battery when playing
