What if the ROG laptop was used in battery mode right away using it until reaching 15% and then charged for 2 hours then reaching 100% without following the 3 hours charge before first use, will it have bad effect on the gaming performance or bad effect on the battery health of the laptop? When on battery power only, I set the CPU Frequency to 80% in Windows Power Plan Settings. It helps the laptop go longer on battery only before needing a charge. Although I notice a difference in how snappy the laptop is, it’s not too much different. It runs cooler and the fans do not need to turn on/spin up as often, saving that battery power for processing by staying on passive cooling only most of the time. This will vary depending upon how good of a heatsink your laptop has. The one in my laptop is pretty good. Razor Blade 15 Base early 2020 model

It's added advantage is very minimal and if you already did not know 90% of the tips in this video, chances are you don't know how to do it right and will mess up your system. You are better of buying a laptop cooling pad and call it a day. Also don't go for flashy RGB cooling pads if you really wanna see a difference in temps. For thermal paste, I highly recommend using Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut! 12.5w/mK is one of the highest ratings. It spreads very evenly. In personal tests I have done, it not only performs better than other TIM's, but it is also very effective at lowering core to core temperature differences. This can mean a lot where it comes to thermal throttling, be it CPU or GPU temps. Built in algorithms are based on temperature headroom, so lowering the temps will naturally increase clock speeds, and keep them there for longer periods of time.
    As for the batteries, yes. If you are using the while plugged in, limit the charge to 80% if possible. This of course comes with a caveat. You should charge it to 100% every so often, and drain the battery completely, then charge to 100% and reset the charge limit back to 80%. This is to insure that the battery doesn't develop any "charge memory" issues, where it it fully charged, but thinks it only has say 70% charge.

      for the battery charge limit, is it really necessary to have it? and is there any trusted third party software for it? cause apparently i have none of those on my laptop.

    • @killertruth186
      @killertruth186 2 года назад

      @@marcelhrtn They would have to access the motherboard bios, because that is the only thing you can make changes. And it is important to know which apps you would give them permission to make changes within the bios. But, some laptop brands like MSI already have software that allows just that and more.

    Nice stuff! I only have some doubts regarding dual channel memory. I set up this in my 7700hq, and overall the only thing I noticed was the increased heat on the ram modules area....

    • @bfitnessjoe
      @bfitnessjoe 2 года назад +1

      well for performance increase you DO want dual channel memory but you also want to "balance" the load by finding a "sweet spot" or conservative setting for the ram modules so you are not cooking the board :D

    if you have an intel system, check out ThrottleStop. This will give you greater control over your thermal performance (overclock and undervolt options), allow you to set a more specific performance setting while on battery mode (eg, only use X% of the CPU power and to boost or not boost) and with the help of additional programs, allow you to set your screen to automatically change refresh rate when plugged in or on battery.
    I combine this with HWiNFO64 so I can put my thermals, CPU usage and GPU usage on my task bar for easy monitoring.

    • @fpdomain
      @fpdomain 2 года назад

      I used a gaming laptop in a friends house for a few days and I had to use ThrottleStop from techpowerup and saved me. Disabling the turbo it was all it needed to stop overheating and freezing. Do you use for any other than that? Curious too about the Hz change...that saves power.

    Can you elaborate a bit more on the battery tip? Shouldn't the power brick stop sending voltage when the laptop hits 100% battery, and not damage battery lifespan? Also, what kind of third party software do you recommend for limiting charge power if your computer doesnt come with that built in function?
    Thanks in advance!

      I just assume that the power from cable will stop redirecting to the battery and instead directly power the component when it's at 100%. Is that not the case?

      The software would have to gain access to the bios from the OS. I am sure it might be possible with Linux, but for Windows. Not so sure, and you would have to be careful which software you would give access to it.

    Not sure if you'd read this Jarrod, but a friend of mine has a Dell G7 7588 and we recently found out that the newer bioses actually prevent undervolting (they block intel XTU and throttlestop). I was wondering if you knew any way around this or had a way to enable undervolting again, as it would help his laptop from overheating

    • @zaneverovati
      @zaneverovati Год назад

      The fact they've locked your friend out of undervolting should mean that there's an even BIGGER issue with the hardware that they can't get around and preventing undervolting has proven to be something that diminishes the chance of that issue occurring. I'd steer clear of undervolting and get a cooling pad for that laptop, cheers

    0:10 I just got a lenovo laptop with a 3050ti and ryzen 7 but idk if it is worth connecting another monitor for a 17% boost... is it really worth cuz u would think that it will lessen the performance of the laptop becuz it has to display on 2 monitors instead of one

    • @dontcheckmyvideos9416

      When u use both monitors it will drop a bit. But you can turn one off or set it as non-default + it has better colors in most cases and you see alot more detail so its worth for sure.
