    I Passed!!! as of today I am an NCCA BOARD CERTIFIED CBSPD Technician!!!! I am confident that Steve's Videos were instrumental in my passing, He covered so much of what I was tested on. Watch these videos over and over like I did for weeks on end and you will do fantastic!! the low temp video and prep and pack and the Steam sterilization videos were particularly helpful however watch ALL of the available videos and be assured you will do great! Thanks so much Steve you rock!!

      Hello Guy Jones! I know I am 2 years late.Congratulations on passing your exam! What helped you pass the CBSPD exam? Were the practice exam in the back of the workbook helpful? Also, did you use the practice exam study guide as well. BCI is brilliant but I thought he only prepared for IACHSMM.

    I passed and I give thanks to you!! I work for a tissue bank and they require you to be certified, So it was a challenge for me because I haven’t worked in a hospital for a couple of years and forgot majority of everything! So I had to relearn everything. I did fail the exam my 1st try but I didn’t give up and remained focused by watching your videos and eating dinner until it was embedded in my head 😂😂… THANK YOU

    This video needs to be updated. H2O2 has the same OSHA limits for human exposure as Ethylene Oxide. 1 ppm in an 8 hour shift. Most hospitals DO NOT monitor the air for H2O2like they do EtO. Consequently, there is a lot of people being exposed to more than 1 ppm of H2O2.

    Hi thanks for the video.
    It isn't mentioned the alternative low temperature immersion in paracetic acid. Can you explain the reason you didn't discuss in class? is not relevant among US hospitals? what about in Europe?
    Moreover can you suggest a source about official guidelines and other regulations on that topic?
    Thanks in advance
    Pietro

    • @BostonCareerInstitute
      @BostonCareerInstitute  6 лет назад +2

      Unipa88 dear Pietro, thanks for watching. Peracetic acid is used primarily as a high level disinfectant in the US and not a sterilant. That is why it wasn't mentioned in the class. In the US all matters pertaining to sterilization are deferred to AAMI and all other content is distilled from their regulations. Instrument manufacturers also provide guidelines for specific instructions for use and care. I follow iahcsmm content from their crcst manual. Hope this helps. All the best. Steve

      Thanks Steve.. For endoscopes (thermal sensitive instruments) I found out also LTSF (steam formaldehyde) method: temperature 60c, 30 min and 2% formaldehyde concentration; I have the feeling that there are many other methods available around.
      Do you have any suggestion on where to read about all of them?

      Well, Formaldehyde is also a disinfectant, though in higher concentrations it may be considered a sterilant. Unfortunately, due to its toxic residue it is not very popular. Thanks again for watching and asking great questions. Steve

    Hello!!! Your videos are awesome!! However, I have been a Surgical Technologist for over 9 years now. I just was just recently hired to teach Surgical Technology to High School students. However, as we both know, that requires an Associates Degree. So upon completion of my program my students will sit for the CBSPD exam. This makes me very nervous!! My only experience with SPD is calling down/running in to grab a tray of instruments for a case. I have been studying my tail off to be very honest with you. I want my students to be successful. Your videos are awesome and I am a huge fan. I share your videos in class in addition to my own lecture at times and I will provide guided notes to go with your videos. Hope you don not mind. I am typing all of this to simply ask for advice, advice and more advice!! Does your videos work for the CBSPD exam as well? I understand I may be a little late. But I am late in discovering your RUclips channel. I have 11 students scheduled to take the exam May 3rd. I feel like I have prepared them well, but I think I am more nervous than them.....ok I'm done now. LOL

    Hi, I work as an SSD Technician in the Uk at my local NHS hospital. We have a medium size Sterrad Unit primarily for Robotic & Laparoscopic Scopes. Our standard cycle time is around 55 minutes, and a longer cycle of 1 hour 30 minutes. You say the normal cycle time for Gas/Plasma sterilisation is 2 hours, is this dependent on the type of machine being used or is due to differing regulations between the UK & US ?

    It is very interesting talk. I wish to know that is there any plasma present in the containers wrapped in Tyvek after zapping RF? Or it is only outside the packaging material? Is it that all the bacteria / virus break down and get out in the form of gas?
    can you please answer me these questions?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @nanoindus
      @nanoindus 10 лет назад

      *****
      Thanks for so quick reply. When RF is applied whether there will be plasma inside the Tyvek packets also other than in the main chamber? That was my question. So when the tools are packaged in Tyvek packets, the plasma is produced in the packages as well! If so, the byproducts of reaction of H2O2 with microorganisam would take very long time to diffuse out since the pumping through micro / nanopores of tyvek will be too poor. So there is significant chance of contaminents remaining inside the packages!. Am I right?
      SOrry for naive question.

    • @nanoindus
      @nanoindus 10 лет назад

      ***** Thanks Steve. I was wondering about this plasma inside the packages. Generally pressure inside the package remains high as the pumping speed in package is very low and hence there are chances that there may not be plasma. In you other video you were showing biological indicator. That is sealed in a vial / bottle. how H2O2 will enter inside the vial to sterilize the spores inside the bottle? or is it also made of Tyvek? I have been working on plasma for last several years. I shall carryout this experiment in the lab. I shall seek your help when ever i have doubts.
      thanks once again.

      ***** Thanks once again.
      It may not be good idea to discuss here which is public and others may not be interested in our discussion. Can I mail you to personal email id if you agree?
      Another question I have. After deep draw vacuum stage, next stage is the injection of Hydrogen peroxide. After the injection, is it that the vacuum pumping is stopped ? or continuous flow of H2O2 is maintained and pumps are made to operate continuously pumping our h2o2 vapor? Or the cahmber is filled - pumps are put off - the same voluem of h2o2 vapor turns into plasma and then pumps are started to draw out the reactants?
      Thanks for your patients and quick response in replying to all my questions.
      regards

    • @BostonCareerInstitute

      CHL ... Yeah, I hear you. The best advice I can give you is not to get discouraged! You gain absolutely nothing from that, think positively instead and refocus your efforts. Go over the book concentrating on the shaded areas of each chapter. Read the chapters into your phone and listen to yourself reading the chapters every chance you get. Don't watch TV and focus on learning. Teach your friends the stuff you read from the book. Think positively and you will pass next time or the time after that. You got nothing to lose and everything to gain. Go forth, you have my blessings :)
