Thank you for sharing. As far as the bark coming off, after they’re glued and finished like you showed, some epoxy resin will probably help so that no more bark comes off later
I saved the tree limbs from yesterday's tree trimming. I started to slice them today because that 12" log would take forever to dry. Moist wood is difficult to cut. I found the best way to handsaw it was to use a simple miter box, the cheapest one. I used a hacksaw for metal at 24 tpi. It was much easier to use this blade to cut moist wood as compared with the saw that came with the miter box (push saw) or a pull saw. The miter box helped to stabilize the wood from getting away and made for positioning the wood much easier. I cut 3 wet coasters today. I'm not strong, being
Nice! I tried the same thing a while ago but the wood cracked after it was finished because the branch looked dry but obviously wasn't quite dry enough. I did the project over but this time before I sliced the branch I put it in the oven on a low temp for about 4 hrs. Dont remember the temp but it was just below 212F, poor mans wood kiln, just do it when the wife's not home. Came out perfect with no cracks. Something to think about.
my son and I cut down a bunch of volunteer trees in the yard, and this is what I was thinking about making for Christmas presents. I don't have a table saw, just a chain saw, hack saw, and a skill saw. My problem so far has been getting them flat, and not thicker on one side
I really appreciate this content because I've been looking for a way how to do it without a bunch of fancy power tools right now I have some fast drying polyurethane and I'm using a brush but I'm wondering how long should I let the Polyurethane dry for I don't have a spray can
I Found A 2 Inch Branch & I Thought About using it To Make A couple Of Coasters & See How They Turn Out. They Might Be Too Smal But How I'm Going About Making Them Is I'll Glue Them In Rows I'll Glue Them I Rows Of 3 Or 4. It Depends On How Big The Slices Are.
What rolls down stairs Alone or in pairs, Rolls over your neighbor's dog? What's great for a snack, And fits on your back? It's log, log, log. It's log, log, It's big, it's heavy, it's wood. Hello, I wanted to save a slice from each of our Christmas tree stumps. I bought an electric miter saw. I am new to electric tools and apparently don't quite understand safety yet. I couldn't really figure out how to clamp the short (5-6") stump to the base. Stupidly, I attempted it twice and was rewarded with massive kickback. I found your video by searching how to cut a Christmas tree stump into slices safely. You say this would be easier with an electric saw. How would you do this safely?
Clamp a piece of 2x4 to the left side of the saw place the stump up against the 2x4. Clamp another 2x4 on the right so it presses everything together with the stump in the middle where you want your cut.
Mars Codez Thank you for the response... I still have my unsliced stumps :) Wouldn't that be putting pressure on both ends of the stump? I thought in general you're only supposed to have something on one side so the cutoff doesn't bind, if that's the right term?
Hey I haven't heard that song in a while!! And btw, love the way you continue the rustic boho theme; drinking from a jar!! Hey if it works, why not, right?! Thanks dude, nice DIY =D L - Cheerio
Why, why, why did you suggest baking soda and water? I just ruined half the slices I spent the day cutting with this step! They are all gray and ugly now, instead of a nice golden brown! Was trying to do a craft for a birthday tomorrow, but now I have to go find another matching limb to drag out of the woods in the morning. So bummed!
Finally someone who doesn't have a full shop with every fancy tool at your finger tips!

Great video. 👌🏽
Mine got pool table cloth underneath 😊
Thank you for sharing. As far as the bark coming off, after they’re glued and finished like you showed, some epoxy resin will probably help so that no more bark comes off later
Would the epoxy resin go around rings or used as glue on the inside of the bark?

I’ve found using a 2x4 stop, making a “sacrificial” first cut, and cutting on a slight angle helped get a uniform thickness.
TY for sharing couldn’t make it any easier😊
Ren and Stempie throwback nice! Lol
nice job. but could you please also explain how to sell these wooden drink coasters? where can we sell and for what price per piece? thank you.

it wont ever crack of you use the correct sealent. it will always crack if unsealed or sealed incorrectly
