It is a pleasure to look at Alex Katz retrospective. Looking at the Rauschenberg’s double portrait, .the Dance Company, 1963, the beautiful roses next to a woman and a child, and lots of portraits throughout the years. Very minimalistic style. Simple backgrounds; social meetings wether at the beach or in the city, the black dresses from early years. They are all great. Not to forget their latest painting in white or the swimmers, and of course his profusion of tress and flowers, where tones of green, yellow and black enhance the nature of his depictions.

Of course one of my favorites are those portraits with black glasses and yellow background! Thanks for such a great opportunity to watch Alex Katz at the Guggenheim.

it seems to me in every moment you are either returning the gaze or lost in your own private world

Most of the portraiture seems merely paintings of poorly posed snapshots (or parts of snapshots) from a strange family's photo album. Art seems, at times, but an easy scam using deft minor lies to promote the exchange of good money for haughtily touted, painted scraps.
