"i have an art that has no image, no object, little place of focus, so without image or object or focus, what do you have left ? its the idea of seeing yourself see, understanding how you perceive" James Turrell
I saw a show of his work in Scottsdale decades ago. The piece that stood out to me the most was called the Gloaming. You would walk into a dark room on a narrow path with handrails on either side. You got the sense with some audio clues that this room was enormous. And at the focal point of the installation, you would look into what felt like massive space and you could barely see a ring of light. It was extremely faint, like you weren't sure if you actually saw anything or not. It was haunting.
This pices of art reminds me of Rembrandt. The uses of the light, the perception, every person on this planet must see a James Turrell piece of art. Thank you for this video!! Greetings from Mexico City!!
James Turrell is the master of lights. His work combines style, elegance, and explores much more. Great video. I liked it and subscribed to the channel.
Anyone know what software Turrell's team is using (or what's something similar to it on the market)? Also curious of the hardware they're using at 2:19. Thanks!
i've never been into art at all. But i've visited way a artwork from him on a school trip in our local modern artmuseum, in the netherlands (very small place with rotating art but has the only permanent work because you can't just relocate something like that). The only piece that ever moved me. Didn't know nothing about any art, let alone this artist in particular. And now 10 years later i figure out this guy trough kanye and immediatly recognise his style and remembered seeing his style before. what are the odds
Its true. James Turrell artworks are strangely meditative in person. Its like staring into the abyss. That experience can’t really be replicated through a video or photo.
"It can only be truly experienced first hand", Oohh really!?? Turrell's art is amazing but also art statements and critics are amazingly hilarious. That statement can be applied to any type of art :)))
I like every aspect of light but why is his work is so special? I don get why they are talking like they have never seen any form of light i their life ?

I saw one of his works in Las Vegas. It was a very strange feeling. Like staring into the abyss. It feels disconnected from reality.
I absolutely adore the turrell space in Houston. Going to the fine arts museum is one of my favorite things 💜💕 Turrell’s work inspires me.
