@@cabecorra91 for starters, no one who isnt a pc dork (myself included) knows what a steam deck even is. a steam deck isnt available in retail markets and is built entirely on a DRM system that requires you to always be online to play in the walled garden
@@alexanderramirez158I wouldn't go as far as to say nobody knows, but it is a smaller demographic. My 12 year old nephew knew what a Steam Deck was, and he's not that much of a gamer (and isn't a PC geek at all, more into sports or cars).
Doesn't matter, the Switch 2 stands between the PS4 Pro and Xbox Series S, it doesn't need any more than that to be well served for the next 8-10 years, the other consoles' games suffer from diminishing returns anyway.
@@PolitiClank Couldn't care any less, played my og Switch only 2 times in handlheld mode in almost 8 years. Even if the Switch 2 drops to PS4 level in handheld mode, barely anyone will complain.
@@BL4CKF4NG 3rd party devs are more likely to target future games for the Switch 2 as the lead plattform and upscale the games to the PS5/ XSX cause its way cheaper and sustainable, sorry to rain on your parade 😂
Nintendo first party games often drop frames below 30fps, it's just unacceptable, but that's just me, people who buy switch don't care or it doesn't bother them.
Yes because games will be optimized for it. But Switch 2 will have less ram (12gb). But the success or failure of Switch 2 will have nothing to do with Steam Deck.
Less ram, although probably pretty close to the same capacity actually used for games, higher bandwidth, way more cache IN the gpu, with 2x the shared gpu cache bandwidth per clock as rdna2 without infinity cache, twice the cpu cores, 3x the shader alu's, 6x counting the tensor cores... The answer yes at like 1/3rd the gpu clock speed. Steamdeck: 512 shaders X 2 x1.6 ghz = 1.6 Tflops fp32 Switch 2 = 1536 shaders X 2 X 0.53 ghz = 1.6 tflops fp32. And it will be much better at actually getting close to that peak theoretical than the steamdeck will be able to, with a much larger max warps in flight with 576 (48 per sm) Vs steamdecks 256 (64 per wgp/32 per cu) So not only will steamdeck suffer more cache misses faster do to less warps in flight, but they have less cache to catch the misses, and less vram bandwidth to catch it after that.
The steamdeck is seemingly the new (Lowest acceptable spec) for many developers. So it would possibly have a major effect on how well games made in unreal or unity preform or get ported
@1gta4gta docked, if it's gpu is clocked at 1.31 ghz. Which we don't know yet. But you are responding to a portable clock speed that would get the exact same flop performance as a steamdeck put of switch 2's gpu. It would take the switch 2 gpu 0.53 Ghz, to match the steamdeck gpu at 1.6 Ghz.
Note that a steamdeck is basically a computer running a heavy operating system. The Nintendo Switch, on the other hand, is a console designed solely for gaming, which may still use nVidia's latest generation DLSS version. In addition, Switch 2 includes ddr5x 12 GB of memory with a bandwidth of 120 GB/s in the dock and 100 GB/s as a handheld console
We know that they demonstrated The Matrix Awakens UE5 demo at Gamescom last year. If the shipping Switch 2 can run that then its already way ahead of the Steam Deck, if not in terms of sheer horsepower then definitely in terms of optimization and DLSS. Matrix Awakens is a slideshow on Steam Deck while word from Gamescom is that the Switch 2 demo was comparable to PS5 and Xbox Series.
it depends on the resolution... also the tech demo now runs at 24fps on the steam deck. the unreal engine was optimized a lot since it initial release.
@@HermesderWetterbote24fps? That's the perfect cinematicness. BTW, I was just playing TMA on PS5 today, cars handling and collisions are better than in GTA V😅
i believe that's dock mode , we talking about handheld mode here. (i still believe that with nvidia superior architecture it will outperform sd but how much?)
@@TheTraveler980 of course not xD But Nintendo themselves confirmed an announcement before april 2025. and nvidia is already producing the chip for it right now. so while we don't know for certain what it looks like we know for certain what's inside. just like we knew what was inside the switch one year prior to it's reveal.
Because of price. It's as simple as that. Look at the price of the Steam Deck. Look at the current price of the Switch. Nintendo has overpriced just one handheld of theirs and they had to course correct both strongly and quickly. Ergo, you won't get a Nintendo Switch 2 on par with a much more expansive portable PC
@@acmiguens the steam deck starts @ the same price as the switch oled (350€)... and is expected to drop to 250€ wen the steam deck 2 launches next year. and there's a meta quest 3s now also for only 300€ 🙈
I suspect it will. The Steam Deck is pretty outdated, and a lot of the recent AAA games lose all of their graphic polish due to having to run the games at such low settings/resolutions. Optimization, and DLSS will make Switch 2 games look so much better even if it runs at a lower tdp.
DLSS is the key. Lower the res better is the quality of DLSS compared to FSR. DLSS imo also looks better than any implementation of TAA. It's my opinion based on the games that I have played at 1080p
I honestly don't care as long as they can nail a stable framerate. Nintendo games don't push technical boundaries and that's perfectly fine. But I need the framerate to hold up better than it does in Tears of the Kingdom.
People will buy a Switch it because they want Nintendo first party titles but they did that for the WiiU too. The other buyers bought given the pandemic lock down and the challenges in getting a PS5 and Xbox Series during the time. I could be wrong but I believe we saw Switch numbers rise during the release of Animal Crossing. A social game you could play safely at home during the pandemic.
exactly. The first party games guarantee 10 to 20 million sales, but the rest depends on the features. On switch the biggest selling point was playing home console games on the go. not only first party home console games.
Based on the specifications we know so far (From the source you used for the T239 video, shipping manifests, knowledge of NVIDIA's Architecture and the parts mentioned.etc, and reasonability of process nodes.etc), Yes it will beat its face in. We're talking about an extremely narrow SoC with 4 Cores and only 512 Shaders, with very slim amounts of cache accessible by the GPU with an Architecture that's very stall-heavy without cache to offset (See RX 890M *still* loosing notably to the 6500XT despite having higher clocks generally, same number of cores, a 1.5Gen newer architecture, and even more bandwidth and RAM nowadays than that card, RDNA2+ *needs* Infinity Cache to optimally perform). Versus 8 A78C CPU cores (A architecture with far higher IPC than Zen2, and with a lot more on-die cache to the CPU), paired with 1536 Shaders on a singular cluster (so super low latency), on an architecture that is far wider beyond the cores themselves (a lot more warps and scheduling units). Considering how big T239 is, combined with NVIDIA publicly saying their moving their ARM SoC ventures to TSMC (seemingly ending their relationship with Samsung), all things math to T239 being on a TSMC node rather than Samsung 8. And the nodes NVIDIA has licenses for are well, TSMC 7N (Datacenter Ampere), 4N (Lovelace), and 4NP (Blackwell). So T239 on 4N with a setup that big, combined with how power-effcent Ampere and Lovlace are as architectures removed from Samsung 8 (ditto the file-leak that gave T239's GPU specs saying it has the First-Level Clock Gating efficency feature from Lovelace), Switch 2 in portable mode should kick Steam Deck's Shins in. Looking at that file leak that predicated the specs Richard used in his (IMHO sort of poorly done) analysis of T239, it has a DLSS Testing Program in it with pre-defined clock speeds. With the lowest clock there (Probably portable mode), being 660MHz (I assume portable because the other clocks there are 1.1GHz and a whopping 1.3GHz). So 660MHz Portable T239 would have a GPU spec with 2TFLOPs of Compute, on a architecture that scales down a lot better in regard to workload brunt (See how the 2050M/3050M compare versus the RX 5500M and 6500M with the former most performing a lot better than the bandwidth cut would predict, it matching the lattermost with the same bandwidth despite not having any Infinity Cache equivalent), and also has the auxiliary tensor cores to offload DLSS, Denoising (Ray Reconstruction), and even Mixed-Precision tasks too. And the far more robust RT cores (that don't disable the TMUs in the GPU they function in, seriously won't get why AMD thought that was a good idea). Assuming the A78Cs are clocked anywhere north of 1.5GHz? It'd probably beat out Steam Deck's pretty handily in Single Thread performance, and then have 4 more full cores for MT performance. Ditto actual game performance due to the extreme advantage in Cache 8 A78Cs would have over the 4 Cut-down Zen2 cores in Steam Deck. And that's all before the Shipping-listing find that they're putting 12GB of LPDDR5X (120GB/s of bandwidth) into Switch 2
660mhz seems quite high if it’s fabricated in 8nm. The meta quest 3 uses a 4nm SOC and the GPU does only go up to 690 mhz (and that will drain the 20 watthour battery in 1,5 hours). So either switch 2 needs a massive battery like steam deck (heavy/big device) or they need lower clock speeds for decent battery life
@coolertuep different architectures would behave differently with different clocks regarding power draw. Remember Ampere and RDNA2 were not far off on power draw figures. And while RDNA2 was clocked higher, it was half the width of Ampere. So all things considered, Ampere was such an efficient architecture that despite being more than double the width (128 shaders + 4 Tensor Cores and a RT core per SM vs 64 shaders with an extension to the TMU to become the RA per CU for RDNA2). It kept up with RDNA on a far less efficient process node (Samsung 8 is a horrible node. Thing power leaks a lot and has a clock floor that means you can't go lower and get any more efficiency gains that's pretty high, Ironically around 600MHz)
@coolertuep the Quest 3 is heavily limited by thermals due to the pancake lenses requiring screens bright enough to be seen from the Moon. The Quest 3S is using old lens tech (fresnel) so the screen doesn’t need to be nearly as bright/hot/power hungry. Idk if we have data on the Q3S yet, but I’d be interested in seeing how the same Qualcomm SoC does in a lower power draw environment.
I honestly sold one of my switches and grabbed the steam deck. I had three switches in my household. Got rid of one picked up a steam deck and a rog Ally still have two switches. One OLED one OG... I can see people offloading a switch to get a steam deck or people who would have bought one recently picking up a handheld PC instead
It’d be nice to have like a Turbo mode for handheld that runs the CPU/GPU at full clock speeds like the docked mode. Or even have it automatically enabled when it’s plugged into a charger with enough wattage to charge at full speed and power the device
I'm pretty sure Steam deck owners don't really care about graphics and performance either. Most AAA games have to be run at really low resolutions and settings.
Think about N64, GameCube, 3DS and WiiU sales..... Nintendo has a different target audience, yes. But succes sales don't popup each time (WiiU shows the proof sadly, and all ports from WiiU to Switch were the only way to have succes)
I care about graphics and performance on switch. Meaning I just want them to be good enough, not below par in either category. Especially the performance one
@@hellogoodbye3786 yeah I can output games to 4k and play games up to 120 on my tv. Not on every game of course but like i can play ffvii remake at like 1080p or 1440p above 90 and Hades 2 at 4k and the frame can be 90 plus.
That's what people said about the original NSwitch, and no it didn't match the PS4 Pro. Not only that, it barely surpassed the WiiU. It was a next-gen console with last-gen capability. A "bruh" moment. And it only makes sense if you compare it to the previous handhelds, like the new3DS, then yes it is much more capable BUT it is no longer pocketable. At least when viewed as a Handheld Console (and not Home Console) it's sales figures make sense. Meaning the PS2 will remain the Most Sold Home Console and NSwitch will remain as the Most Sold Handheld Console.
Just got a steam deck and now messing around with docking it and its settings with my old 1080p tv. I gotta give nintendo a lot of credit for how seamless the docking process is and going from 720-1080p. The steam deck I'm still figuring out how to do that same thing. Is that in the settings? I was checking online, and it's game by game? And you need to change it everytime and it affects performance when the change in resolution happens? The switch is pretty crazy to process all that right away with same performance with higher res.
Go to the game, click on the settings icon before launch and ser game resolution to Native. Most games will automatically launch in 1080p when docked. A few exceptions will stay stuck to 720/800p, but all you have to do is then go to the in game settings and bump it up
That is probably the biggest problem Switch 2 will have. The original Switch came out inheriting loads of unsold Wii U games. Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, etc. were all Wii U games. They could get away with that only because nobody actually played the Wii U. For Switch 2, they can't just re-release Switch games again. That would be super lame. Therefore, I believe the Switch 2 won't be a Switch 2 at all, but simply a Switch Pro (just like a PS5 Pro, but Nintendo will called it like New Nintendo Switch XXL OLED+ or something.) Basically an upgrade to the Switch but keep 100% compatibilty. Plays all games handheld mode exactly like Switch docked mode, and improve docked and handheld mode in select titles. Most games will still support OG Switch. Only a few AAA third-party ports that are struggling even maintaining 20-30fps will be "Pro" exclusive.
@@davidsentanu7836That would be the dumbest decision ever. A mid gen refresh after 8 years would NEVER make success. Theres always been a new console after 6-8 years, thats just how it is. Besides, the switch has had barely any new 1st party games in the last year and a half. Sure, a new mario and luigi, mario party and zelda game but they're just 3 spin off titles that will realistically only sell like 10 million copies max. Theyre scraping the bottom of the barrel with those games, tbh.
@@continental_consumer Ok, the PS5 Pro comparison (a mid gen refresh) was not apt. But what I meant is that the Switch 2 won't be a totally different console. It will be 100% compatible with OG Switch and will run all Switch games, just better (like a PS5 would run PS4 games better.) I'm sure of it. Because not doing that would mean lack of games. It's a new console, but not really, but a new console. Nintendo is not foreign with this MO. The Wii was a new console, but actually just a slightly upgraded Gamecube in disguise.
Switch 2 will perform better in handheld mode than steam deck. It has to if Nintendo wants to keep up for a whole generation of 6~7 years. Proper implementation of DLSS and modern chip design, optimization down to the metal might make it possible but we’ll see. I just hope that Nintendo sticks with 720p in handheld mode. No one needs 1080p for that size and it would be terrible for performance.
W take. 100% agree. Most people don't even realize that and its ashame. 720p is perfectly fine for a handheld. Rather have that than have anything higher and watching your battery die in 20 minutes
I highly doubt games are going to run at native 1080p on the switch display. They will most likely upscale from 500-600p which would be just as expensive as rendering at 720p.
I prefer steen deck because it is a fully unlocked device and I play games from my PC library that I have had for 10-15 years and I don't have to buy the games again
@@QuantumChrist well not really. Playing your steam library on the go without having to pay full price again for said games is a pretty compelling reason to get a Steam deck. You also get cloud sync so that your progress with those games automatically gets synced with your pc. That and emulating older consoles (that aren’t in circulation and Nintendo isn’t making any money off of them, so who cares) are what it’s great at. Getting it for switch emulation specifically is pretty dumb because it can’t play a lot of switch games as well as the switch, so nobody would get it specifically for that purpose.
I remember when people actually thought steam deck would effect switch sales, lol. Switch 2 won’t touch steam deck performance and steam deck won’t touch switch 2 sales.
I'm pretty sure even after the launch of steam deck, the old ragged switch has outsold steam deck. When switch 2 launches it will have been 8 years since the last one. And the current switch is still getting games. Most people buy consoles for games not to gloat about the hardware specification.
The big difference with pc handheld and console like nintendo, with just 2 years the handheld pc performance can't handle new pc games, but console like switch will fine for another 8 year bcs exclusive games and third party will port and optimize games for switch.
It matters. Switch 2 needs more power. It needs to be double what the current one is, with DLSS. Or I’m going Steam Deck. My Switch Oled will be just fine to finish out my current backlog, some of which I have on Steam as well.
I will buy a Switch 2 no matter what, for the Nintendo Games. There first party games are some of the best! No Pay to win and ads designed to mess with your mind for playtime/money! All other games I want will be purchased for PC
selling my switch and buying a deck was the best decision i've ever made, gaming wise. and yes i could've kept the switch and have both, but honestly, it was collecting dust anyway and this way i only had to pay 50 bucks extra. playing games like doom 2016 or eternal on the deck vs on the switch, makes you realize how underpowered nintendo's device is. it's sub-lowest settings at unstable 30fps and blurry res. vs. native 800p with very high-ultra settings at smooth 60 fps. calling it a generational leap would be an understatement. another huge plus of the deck is how much cheaper the games are, especially if you buy the codes from (legit) websites like instant gaming. and then there's emulation and the possibility to use it as a linux pc, it's just way more versatile.
Well, people did not buy the wii u, even with mariokart 8, smash, splatoon etc. The Idea was to play home console games on the go. Not just first party home console games. So yes, it has to outperform the steam deck to be more relevant than the wii u. Or it needs an awesome new gimmik like the wii and ds had.
because Switch had all the games Nintendo made.. Usually they seperate between portable and home console, with Switch all their games on one console, people dont need to spend another $300 just to play handheld/homeconsole exclusive. that just my 2 cents
@zultriova89 yeah, but they also only have a single console now. if you add the 3ds and wii u sales together it wasn't so bad back then . and ds + wii equals over 250 millions... 😅 Also nintendo sold 2 systems to the customer, generating more money.
Biggest problem the switch 2 is going to have is that it won't have a whole load of ports to tide people over like the switch did. Early switch first two years was mostly Wii u Ports the majority of people hadn't played. That is a one time trick
I would argue with the current Steam Deck, it will have the advantage, not just with DLSS implemented, but also the backbone of any Nintendo system are their first-party offerings, which would just keep Nintendo in their own island and lane, while others chase everything else.
@HermesderWetterbote - The Wii U piggybacked the Wii, but the combination of poor timing of announcement and release and poor marketing lead to the system not being successful.
@@BigBrotherGnE the same could happen to the switch 2. its also long overdone and the hype around the switch is dying off just as the wii did. 1 or 2 years ago they could just have released a lore powerful switch 2 and have anoter 3-4 good years. now they either need amazing value, incredible exclusives at launch or an awesome gimmik. But a success is not safe anymore.
@@HermesderWetterbote - Despite the GameCube not selling great numbers, it is still a fondly remembered system, and the games they have produced contributed to the industry as a whole, are considered timeless, regardless of what naysayers would say otherwise. The Switch 2 can still ride off the success of the previous Switch, especially since none of the competition really has anything quite like the flexibility of playing the games in different ways, and those "gimmicks" can very well set a new standard. Instead of chasing power and performance, they are smart to play it conservatively because ultimately that technology is no longer much of a leap in visuals. People are fine with their TV with 1080p display, so why throw money away buying something where you can see more details in a wart?
I'd say hardware wise, probably no. Nintendo seems to tend to underclock or sit on weaker hardware for a long while. However Nintendo might have a few fancy tricks up it's sleeves like some sort of fancy scaler or frame generation. Nintendo games will also be highly optimised generally, with a presumably lightweight OS. So in hardware terms weaker, but in practical terms the same, possibly even a bit better.
This is funny. Nintendo don’t have any worry about the steam deck, sales figures prove that. Regardless of if it’s powerful enough or not, it will sell well as the software will be custom catered for it… where as the deck is looking weak and out of date already because of the lack of focused games
The current Steam Deck? Sure, maybe. An upcoming second Steam Deck for the near future, which was not ruled out by the company? Absolutely not. But what Valve needs is their own IP games, in which Nintendo has in spades.
The bar is low. Current gen Portable pc windows devices completely destroy the steam deck in performance/specs. What are we even talking about here? “Competing” with an antiquated chip & a device that runs at only half the wattage of premium handhelds & only runs at 720p at that? lool.
b/c the Switch is going to get completely embarrassed by windows pc devices Nintendo will survive the only way they can, selling the same recycled software to a bunch of fanboys who prolly wouldn’t care if they were still stuck using a DS. As long as Nintendo pumps out another half dozen Zelda games. They’d buy that sh!t & pump straight it into their veins if it were still in 8-bit. It honestly doesn’t matter at all.
Alex is such a snob it's ridiculous. It's not just smash Zelda bla people will care about , I care about how 3rd part games will run cause it'll be my only console
DF always been biased about Nintendo. SD doesn't have Nintendo software? What does that even mean, the out-dated Nintendo software is the worst part of the Switch. Or did they mean the exclusive games? SD doesn't dock like Switch? How? Do they mean you can't remove the controllers? Extra Bluetooth gamepads doesn't cost anything, even joycons work with SD. Switch 2 could easily flop like Wii U, even Nintendo exclusives couldn't save it, it was third-party developer games that made Switch popular, the same games that are much cheaper on Steam.
Make a performance comparison between switch 2 (8nm) and meta quest 3(s) (4nm). Both ARM architecure. Both low wattage mobile devices with active cooling.
ill bet my ass that switch 2 is not samsung 8nm, it doesnt make any sense at all, it just doesnt fit power consumption wise but DF repeat its 8nm like gospel every time
@ yeah it doesnt. Quest 3s is 4nm and 299$, even includes batman arkham shadow at that price. Selling an console with an 8nm soc in 2025 and charging more than 200$ would be ridiculous lol. But its nintendo after all, lets wait and see
Even the most powerful handhelds on the market aren't even a match for a PS4Pro. Steam Deck is around base PS4 level. There (hopefully) won't be any 1080p+ display and definitely no 4k gaming on the next Nintendo tablet-sized console Knowing Nintendo, they'll likely put more into games and gimmicks and whatever than they will chase after raw performance. Hardware doesnlt matter, game optimization does
You are wrong. Steam deck cpu is 8 times more powerful than both base ps4 and ps4 pro( they share same cpu). Steam deck gpu is 3 times more powerful than base ps4.
@ragestacker It's true that the PS4 CPUs are weaker than even low end $150 tablet PCs, but that's not relevant We're comparing the graphical power of integrated GPUs vs the PS4Pro's dedicated GPU. In terms of graphical capabilities and game visuals/performance, handhelds can't even match a PS4Pro at the same settings PS4Pro plays games at 1080p60 with decent settings in AAAs or something, right? Handhelds can barely do 1080p in those same AAAs. IDK much about PS4Pro game settings and performances, so i can't be 100% sure. This is more like a guesstimation As for SD being 3x more powerful than base PS4, IDK.. I've played GoW on a base PS4. It was like 1080p30 with its original settings. The Deck CAN get over 30fps at original settings, but at 720p. IDK how it'll fare at 1080p
why does df think its 8nm? i understand its the node used by orin but certainly they wont use 8nm that doesnt make any sense for the supposed size of the chip, 12 ampere sm on 8nm is impossible at the power consumption they are talking aboutn 5w? releasing switch in 20nm was a mistake, it was the best they could do and they really needed something, they were not in a good financial situation at the time, they went to 16nm as fast has they could after that and its highly dabatable that it would have done better or worse if they had waited a year to get the 16nm chip, but releasing a 8nm chip, in 2025 would be like releasing switch on 32nm, its ancient, universally considered bad, and clearly they are in no hurry switch is going to pass 150 million units from what we know for sure, they designed that huge mobile chip with 8 big core and a whole 1536 cuda cores, gave it 12gigs of 7500mt lpddr5x, to then run it bellow its efficiency clock because they saved on process node? no if it was 8nm it would be a 6sm chip with half the core to still manage the efficiency clock i do understand nintendo did pretty stupid things like the wii u in the past, but assuming 8nm because its nintendo while its definetely not old blue ocean iwata nintendo is i feel wrong
Or you could just have both.... I have PS5 Pro, XSX, two Switch OLEDs, Steam Deck, iPad, and a high-end PC. Gotta cover all bases, then you don't have to play the dumb "console wars" thing.
You can't walk into the store and buy a Steam Deck. There's no worldwide shipping. The Steam Deck is great and all but it'll never have a chance unless it hits the global market.
Even if the Swich 2 is stronger than the Steam Deck, it won't really appeal to me as a consumer. I don't really care for Nintendo's IPs and I barely play my Switch Lite, the last major game I played on it was TOTK. Nothing else appeals to me in its ecosystem.
It’s it’s not more powerful than the PS4 Pro and Steam Deck I’ll be disappointed granted how old those systems are and how old the Switch is. Nintendo has never been up to date with the other systems as far as I remember. We shall see.
and the steam deck 2 will release next year as well. the old steam deck is expected to drop to around 250$ by then... If nintendo releases a less powerful handheld for double the price (400-500$ are expected) that will not look good
@@HermesderWetterboteWhere are you getting your information from. - First of all, the steam deck 2 is coming at like, late 2026. Not anytime 2025. - Second of all, 250 is NOT happening. 400$ steam decks are already sold at a loss. You expect them to almost half the price? - Third of all, yes the switch 2 will probably be 400-500 but the steam deck 2 will probably be around 500-650, assuming they keep with the LCD and OLED model structure.
So, monster hunter wilds beta had Nintendo controls, world didn't. If it's as powerful as the steam deck, its in trouble for that game cause it's not powerful enough. 😂
I disagree somewhat. I think for me the Switch 2 has to match or surpass at least the Steam Deck's power in handheld. 3rd party on handheld has been part of their success with the Switch. With Nintendo's influence on the market they can still keep the price affordable for the everyday consumer.
@mateo6482 It's not all that matters. If they abandon the 3rd party they run the risk of another WiiU situation. All the awesome 1st party games couldn't help that system.
@@Alexvander10 Wii U’s desmise was about consumer confusion over what it was, combined with most Wii U titles being safe rather than creative groundbreaking entries. The third party support mattered little there too
3rd party has not mattered for the Switch. Of the top 50 selling games for the Switch, 5 were not distributed by Nintendo. If Nintendo does what they did this generation, which is pump out game after game month after month…it will be fine. Nintendo launched with Zelda, Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart in the first year. 3 of the 5 best selling games ever for the console. It was always guaranteed to be a success. All they have to do is follow a similar model. And it aligns that Mario 3D Platformer and Mario Kart will launch with it since it has been 7 years since new ones in their respective franchises.
Nintendo has its own market now, the Switch/switch 2 will rule the home/handheld system for the next 10yrs if Nintendo plays its hands right. Nobody can touch Nintendo at this point.
Unless you like to collect original games in it's plastic case there is no difference between Switch cartridge from a sd card. None except I can have more games on a single sd card. Sd cards are physical so unless someone comes to my home and steal my sd card it will always there to game on.
@@continental_consumer you can litterally put those tiny cartridges in the same protective case you put the switch in. Alternatively there’s cases the size of a mobilephone that’ll hold 40-50 games. You are reaching at this point.
Hot take: It wont. For one reason: The switch 2 is going to have a cart reader and dock. 100$ is taken off from specs and will go to those. We'll be lucky if it even reaches the PS4 mark, assuming its 400$.
Video title is frankly a dumb question. People don't buy Switch for "power" and it has been that way for a very long time for Nintendo consoles. People generally buy the Switch for Nintendo's exclusive games.
In the bigger picture it does not probably matter because of Mario's, Zelda's and Pokemon's that will move units. But the potential adult customers (those 4 - 10 million) who already bought the Steam Deck can be considered potential lost sales for Nintendo. Couple of years ago I was really waiting for a better Switch. I liked the concept. Now that I have a Steam Deck I could not care less when the switch 2 comes out. Question used to be: "Can something replace the switch?" Steam Deck turned that around. Now it doesn't matter what Nintendo does, Switch 2 cannot replace Steam Deck.
When Nintendo does the reveal and showing it running Black Myth Wukong in docked mode then handheld mode will just be a gamechanger (Wukong just about runs on an og Steam Deck, so...)
Once someone nails a good Windows Handheld interface the Switch will be in major trouble which is why they likely delayed its release to get more performance. Handhelds are getting cheaper as the supplychain for competitors gets better.
Switch 2 will have better performance but I likely won’t ditch the Deck until Switch 2 has a decent sized portfolio of GOOD high fidelity games. High end graphics are great but AAA studios haven’t been doing so hot on the “make a good game” part recently.
I kind of disagree here. The Switch launched back when handhelds were mostly dying out and reinvigorated that concept. The Steam Deck now exists with almost all of the same third-party titles running better. Asus, Lenovo have brought Windows handhelds to the mainstream (not just some smaller more niche foreign products no one knew about). Basically, the Switch 2 is launching into a more saturated market now. Depending on the games, you may not even feel compelled to upgrade your current Switch (at least not immediately). I'm not saying it will flop, I just don't think it will go gangbusters like original Switch. I think sales will drop off much faster.
I think they might eat sales on Switch 2 slightly, although I'd imagine if Switch 2 is backwards compatible, I can't imagine Switch 2 not having a roaring success of it. Most casuals would want to upgrade if their existing Switch libraries carry over I'd imagine. Also whilst pc handheldsvare blowing up in popularity right now, I think the consensus is that fans are getting frustrated with Sony and Microsoft. So Nintendo might win over some from those.
Nintendo fans and handheld pc fans hardly overlap. The switch 2 will struggle not because there is “competition” it will struggle because the Switch has many games and is cheaper to own overall than whatever Nintendo will bring next.
Theyre not as popular as you think. The steam deck, the most popular PC handheld sold around 4-5 million units. Impressive for valves first console and not being on shelves, but its nothing to 150 million switch units.
I don’t necessarily agree that the performance of the Switch 2 compared to current gen consoles don’t matter because of Switch exclusives. Yes exclusives are important but 3rd party support is just as important; the Wii U would have sold much better if 3rd party support didn’t matter. If the performance is too far from current gen then the Switch won’t get as much 3rd party support & that will be a problem. So hopefully Nintendo is able to deliver enough power for ports of PS5 games to be possible similar to how Switch got ports like DOOM 2016, Witcher 3, etc.
@Mangomesh What? As far as handlhelds, the steam deck had been struggling for a while now with almost any AAA games that were not designed for ps4 and xbox one. ROG Ally is much more powerful. Switch 2 with an Nvidia soc and dlss will also be much more powerful.
Switch is not handheld but hybrid. Even on handheld it has 2 controllers so you can share and play with a friend together. Switch has better battery autonomy and is less heavy. Switch is cheaper, like 2 times cheaper.
@@Ghostlynotme445 Ya'll do realize you don't have to rely on Steam on the SD right? PC gaming is more open than console gaming when it comes to digital content. PC gaming is an open platform compared to Nintendo who can just delist and remove games from their stores whenever they want.

Steamdeck: 512 shaders X 2 x1.6 ghz = 1.6 Tflops fp32
Switch 2 = 1536 shaders X 2 X 0.53 ghz = 1.6 tflops fp32.
@@Nobody-sp7ug Switch 2 4 Tflops*
I hope this is true
it depends on the resolution... also the tech demo now runs at 24fps on the steam deck. the unreal engine was optimized a lot since it initial release.

Because of price. It's as simple as that. Look at the price of the Steam Deck. Look at the current price of the Switch. Nintendo has overpriced just one handheld of theirs and they had to course correct both strongly and quickly.

Thing power leaks a lot and has a clock floor that means you can't go lower and get any more efficiency gains that's pretty high, Ironically around 600MHz)
i also think df believing the thing to be 8nm is quite funny, hey they were shocked at the 16 teraflop figure of PS5 pro they don't know everything
@coolertuep the Quest 3 is heavily limited by thermals due to the pancake lenses requiring screens bright enough to be seen from the Moon. The Quest 3S is using old lens tech (fresnel) so the screen doesn’t need to be nearly as bright/hot/power hungry. Idk if we have data on the Q3S yet, but I’d be interested in seeing how the same Qualcomm SoC does in a lower power draw environment.
it will sadly probably clock closer to 400mhz in portable mode, or even lower to hold the 5watt max tdp.
It’s literally going to be stronger by a decent margin
I honestly sold one of my switches and grabbed the steam deck. I had three switches in my household. Got rid of one picked up a steam deck and a rog Ally still have two switches. One OLED one OG... I can see people offloading a switch to get a steam deck or people who would have bought one recently picking up a handheld PC instead
It’d be nice to have like a Turbo mode for handheld that runs the CPU/GPU at full clock speeds like the docked mode. Or even have it automatically enabled when it’s plugged into a charger with enough wattage to charge at full speed and power the device
Its a different target audience. Switch players don't care about graphics or performance, as long as the IP they want is on there.
Dood, we still care about performance, but not as much for graphical fidelity. We're not petty.
This. I have both a Steam Deck and a couple of Switch systems for the fact that all my favorite IPs are still on the Switch.

The switch is pretty crazy to process all that right away with same performance with higher res.
Go to the game, click on the settings icon before launch and ser game resolution to Native. Most games will automatically launch in 1080p when docked. A few exceptions will stay stuck to 720/800p, but all you have to do is then go to the in game settings and bump it up
the next steam deck must have a steam dock mode!
It would be nice if it could equal the series s, then they could easily get many multi platform games
People buying Switch 2 want Mario 2, Zelda 2, Super Smash Bros 2, Pokemon 2, Mario Kart 2, Animal Crossing 2 etc and that's fine.
Therefore, I believe the Switch 2 won't be a Switch 2 at all, but simply a Switch Pro (just like a PS5 Pro, but Nintendo will called it like New Nintendo Switch XXL OLED+ or something.)
Basically an upgrade to the Switch but keep 100% compatibilty.
Theres always been a new console after 6-8 years, thats just how it is. playing games like doom 2016 or eternal on the deck vs on the switch, makes you realize how underpowered nintendo's device is. it's sub-lowest settings at unstable 30fps and blurry res. vs. native 800p with very high-ultra settings at smooth 60 fps. calling it a generational leap would be an understatement.
another huge plus of the deck is how much cheaper the games are, especially if you buy the codes from (legit) websites like instant gaming.
and then there's emulation and the possibility to use it as a linux pc, it's just way more versatile.

If speculating, let’s compare the unconfirmed specs of the Switch 2 vs the unconfirmed specs of the Steam Deck 2.
I would argue with the current Steam Deck, it will have the advantage, not just with DLSS implemented, but also the backbone of any Nintendo system are their first-party offerings, which would just keep Nintendo in their own island and lane, while others chase everything else.
but the exclusives only guarantee 10 to 20 million sales, as we saw on wii u. The most sold game on switch is mk8, which didnt help to sell the wii u

I own both the Switch and the Deck. I'm good. ❤️
One thing is that game optimization of switch is better than steamdeck
This is funny. Nintendo don’t have any worry about the steam deck, sales figures prove that.
Regardless of if it’s powerful enough or not, it will sell well as the software will be custom catered for it… where as the deck is looking weak and out of date already because of the lack of focused games
The current Steam Deck? Sure, maybe. An upcoming second Steam Deck for the near future, which was not ruled out by the company? Absolutely not. But what Valve needs is their own IP games, in which Nintendo has in spades.
Half life, left for dead, basically an orange box 2

But its nintendo after all, lets wait and see
Switch 2 needs to be as powerful as rog ally not the steam deck
No it doesn't. Nobody buys Nintendo because of its raw computing power
Even the most powerful handhelds on the market aren't even a match for a PS4Pro. Steam Deck is around base PS4 level. There (hopefully) won't be any 1080p+ display and definitely no 4k gaming on the next Nintendo tablet-sized console
Knowing Nintendo, they'll likely put more into games and gimmicks and whatever than they will chase after raw performance. Hardware doesnlt matter, game optimization does
Thanks for giving us your prophecy. How sore is your butt hole from pulling this prediction out of it?
You are wrong. Steam deck cpu is 8 times more powerful than both base ps4 and ps4 pro( they share same cpu). Steam deck gpu is 3 times more powerful than base ps4.
@ragestacker It's true that the PS4 CPUs are weaker than even low end $150 tablet PCs, but that's not relevant
We're comparing the graphical power of integrated GPUs vs the PS4Pro's dedicated GPU. In terms of graphical capabilities and game visuals/performance, handhelds can't even match a PS4Pro at the same settings
PS4Pro plays games at 1080p60 with decent settings in AAAs or something, right? Handhelds can barely do 1080p in those same AAAs. IDK much about PS4Pro game settings and performances, so i can't be 100% sure. This is more like a guesstimation
As for SD being 3x more powerful than base PS4, IDK.. I've played GoW on a base PS4. It was like 1080p30 with its original settings. The Deck CAN get over 30fps at original settings, but at 720p. IDK how it'll fare at 1080p
Switch U will change the way we breathe
I would say no, the only advantage the switch 2 will have over other handhelds is the dlss which is better than fsr
I was my Princess Peach games with full ray tracing please.
why does df think its 8nm?
i understand its the node used by orin but certainly they wont use 8nm that doesnt make any sense for the supposed size of the chip, 12 ampere sm on 8nm is impossible at the power consumption they are talking aboutn 5w?
releasing switch in 20nm was a mistake, it was the best they could do and they really needed something, they were not in a good financial situation at the time, they went to 16nm as fast has they could after that and its highly dabatable that it would have done better or worse if they had waited a year to get the 16nm chip, but releasing a 8nm chip, in 2025 would be like releasing switch on 32nm, its ancient, universally considered bad, and clearly they are in no hurry switch is going to pass 150 million units
from what we know for sure, they designed that huge mobile chip with 8 big core and a whole 1536 cuda cores, gave it 12gigs of 7500mt lpddr5x, to then run it bellow its efficiency clock because they saved on process node?
no if it was 8nm it would be a 6sm chip with half the core to still manage the efficiency clock
i do understand nintendo did pretty stupid things like the wii u in the past, but assuming 8nm because its nintendo while its definetely not old blue ocean iwata nintendo is i feel wrong
Lots of nintendo fanboys in the comments, go play on your ancient harware from 2014
Or you could just have both....
The Steam Deck is great and all but it'll never have a chance unless it hits the global market.
in europe you can... its also the same price as a switch
I love playing fallout on my steam deck
I easily think it can compete and surpass.
Did he say steamdeck doesn’t have docking capabilities??? I’m pretty sure he did .
This is the kind of title and video that gets Nintendo fanboys triggered
I can’t play gran turismo 4 on a switch. I can’t even play waluigis taco stand
The next switch will bury these PC handhelds, Nvidia is gonna give them the run around
Even if the Swich 2 is stronger than the Steam Deck, it won't really appeal to me as a consumer. I don't really care for Nintendo's IPs and I barely play my Switch Lite, the last major game I played on it was TOTK. Nothing else appeals to me in its ecosystem.
Oled steam deck is king 🤴
It’s it’s not more powerful than the PS4 Pro and Steam Deck I’ll be disappointed granted how old those systems are and how old the Switch is. Nintendo has never been up to date with the other systems as far as I remember. We shall see.
Problem is switch port games.
Irrelevant? NS price dropped harder than flies on baygon in Philippines bec you can emulate ns games on Steak Deck 😅
one would hope it can be on par at least considering the Steam Deck will be over three years old when the Switch 2 launches
and the steam deck 2 will release next year as well. the old steam deck is expected to drop to around 250$ by then...
It'll surpass the steam deck IF they use dlss.
So, monster hunter wilds beta had Nintendo controls, world didn't. If it's as powerful as the steam deck, its in trouble for that game cause it's not powerful enough. 😂
Since you don’t have a real code, you don’t know.
If Switch 2 is as powerful as PS4 in portable mode then I expect GTA 5 and red dead redemption 2 to be released on it.
I disagree somewhat. I think for me the Switch 2 has to match or surpass at least the Steam Deck's power in handheld. 3rd party on handheld has been part of their success with the Switch. With Nintendo's influence on the market they can still keep the price affordable for the everyday consumer.
SD can’t legally play Metroid Prime 4 or Mario Odyssey 2 (presumed). That’s all that matters
Switch 2 will be no less than $400
@mateo6482 It's not all that matters.
SWITCH 2 DOES NOT EXIST. Nintendo have never named thier console follow up with a 2!!
It should match it, if not, it’s a waste imo
2 words : physical gaming. As long as Nintendo provides that. Steamdeck will NEVER be bigger
physical games suck on handhelds. theyre meant to be portable, but then you need to bring loads of tiny cartridges.
Real question is if the Switch 2 gonna get Skyrim
Wik u had cod thats why it is busy
Hot take: It wont. For one reason: The switch 2 is going to have a cart reader and dock. 100$ is taken off from specs and will go to those. We'll be lucky if it even reaches the PS4 mark, assuming its 400$.
It willbe 400 and it will blow the PC handhelds away

No
Once someone nails a good Windows Handheld interface the Switch will be in major trouble which is why they likely delayed its release to get more performance.
The console hasn’t even been announced yet. So why talking about it as if it were?
It’ll definitely be stronger in handheld mode, but thats not the main focus.
Oh it will exceed Steam Deck but it doesn't need to be. Along as it's within the crowd.
Nintendo will do what ever Nintendo want to do
Hope it’s running@ 1080p for Christ sake.
Switch 2 is outdated tech, they never hold a candle to Sony or the Steam Deck🤣🤣
@Mangomesh What? As far as handlhelds, the steam deck had been struggling for a while now with almost any AAA games that were not designed for ps4 and xbox one. ROG Ally is much more powerful. Switch 2 with an Nvidia soc and dlss will also be much more powerful.
Switch is not handheld but hybrid.
Even on handheld it has 2 controllers so you can share and play with a friend together.
Switch has better battery autonomy and is less heavy.
Switch is cheaper, like 2 times cheaper.
Huh. The Steam owners can stream their games via their PCs. Thus I’m not interested in whatever Nintendo calls it
Good you should be fine not owning your games on steam
That's not really a great argument when games on steam are more likely to be de-listed in comparison, meaning a greater risk of losing your games.
Then just use an iPad & controller...
@@Ghostlynotme445 Ya'll do realize you don't have to rely on Steam on the SD right? PC gaming is more open than console gaming when it comes to digital content. PC gaming is an open platform compared to Nintendo who can just delist and remove games from their stores whenever they want.
@@matthewaddai5336delisted games are still able to be downloaded if you own them. Furthermore, steam has a button to back up the install files locally for any game on the service. Your argument is garbage.
