Well this was indeed a surprise - a couple of extra bits of info you can turn screen shake off and there was some text that I felt was a tad small but not usually the important stuff. Mark
I’m glad you were pleasantly surprised. I’ve been waiting for this one for a long time, and I’m glad they did a good job. Picking it up today! Thanks for the review.
Love the artwork and presentation in this one, it’s unmistakably Metal Slug! As you say the devs have nailed the new isometric style. Helps that the game itself turned out quite well too! 👌🏻 Great review
HEAVY MACHINEGUN!!!! Loving the pixel art on this one. Definitively my favourite run and gun platformer series now became an excellent tactics game. Whats not to love?
Been super excited for this one. I was a little hesitant when I heard it was a roguelike because I was hoping it was just going to be a srpg. But seems like it's still worth picking up! Happy days!
It's great to have Metal Slug back, and I love the new Tactical gameplay style. The art is awesome, the OST is amazing as always, and the gameplay is really fun! METAL SLUG IS BACK BABY!
Looks like a stellar game. I agree that the sprites really nail the metal slug look, but the environment feels too blocky to truly feel hand drawn. Still, seems like an absolute pickup from me. We used to do a metal slug marathon every finals week with the Wii’s Metal Slug Anthology. The best part about it was we always forgot the unique pathways available in the few months between semesters. Seems like this game didn’t keep that feature very much. Branching, sure, but not Easter egg branches.
And another one to add to the wishlist! Finally getting around to Prince of Persia myself, absolutely loving it so far! It's helping me forgot about another game that begins with S and ends with ilksong.
I don't believe it has anything to gain by being 60fps. 30fps would have been more than enough for this style of game. It is not like you have to see and react to enemies moves like in an actual run n gun style game such as Metal Slug. There you would absolutely benefit from 60fps. I don't even understand why developers would chose to go with 60fps. Instead they could have worked to make the environment look better.
Never played a Metal Slug game, not really my aesthetic or gameplay throughout and it appears this trend continues. However this doesn't detract from my general happiness that others are excited to play and have enjoyed the series. Cheers SwitchUp! Looking forward to the next videos.
Glad to see this review. I almost skipped it because someone mentioned it was a roguelike, but this give me confidence that it's not entirely so. Thanks! The devs owe you a portion of my purchase price!
@ Because of performance? Or do you think the game benefits from a larger screen due to the amount of text boxes? I noticed quite a few smaller ones in your video. Also, thank you for the in depth review.
Core Keeper review? I'll probably keep dropping this in on rando videos. Still want Metal Slug Tactics but the reported handheld chugs are gonna get me on a waitforpatch list unfortunately
Am I missing something here? Cause I've played games in this format but this one just tanks hard for me. Too much stuff menu elements and moving/attacking is a chore.
i'm watching this video on 4K display.... i think why the graphic very2 pixelated ?? until you show us the nintendo switch shot. i think the graphic is fine on tiny screen/resolution.....
It's a rhrowback to Army attack for me on Facebook and Netal Slug is off course Meral slug. I have been waiting for this a long time feeling kind of dissaponyed at time that it has fallen into development hell. I will be getting it as soon as I return to US. Been playong only one game ever since Shadow of the Erdtree dropped.
Imo Metal Slug Tactics did not delivered a first good impression for me. Metal Slug games are known to be easy to pick and play. But MS Tactics, left me a little tired after a couple of rounds. Behind the fact the game is really difficult, the tutorial was really bland and plane. For that reason the gameplay mechanics were not clearly explained. The rpg elements are not explained how they work either... and to make everything worse, the game's text display is so tiny is a little bothering to read tbh... I dont know, I felt the start of the game was overall rushed, messy, confusing and overwhelming. I know its a "tactical" game, but its not a casual pick and play game either... You have to read a lot of minature text descriptions to figure out how to the rpg elements and attacks work.
Same here dude. The mini text and the controls is what turned me off. Wish it played more like Advance War/Fire Emblem rather than a Forged Games Boardgame.
Well this was indeed a surprise - a couple of extra bits of info you can turn screen shake off and there was some text that I felt was a tad small but not usually the important stuff. Mark
Well done Mark! Been a long time coming but glad it’s out.
I’ve been waiting specifically for this one for years. I never lost hope. I’ll be getting this next pay check
Great game mate - I have been REALLY enjoying it - needs a patch on Switch annoyingly but most levels run ok. Mark
I did lose hope tbh. Nice to see it finally happen, will wait for a sale cause im third world country lol
I think you meant to mention Triangle Strategy, and not Octopath Traveler. Great review, though!
OH yes I did ha
There's Ogre Tactics Reborn too
Available on Game Pass for those who have a subscription to that service. Though I’m personally wanting to play it on Switch in handheld.
Interesting change of direction...
As long as you can still use the "Rocket Lawnsher" I'll be happy!
hahah I think you’ll be happy - Mark
HEAVY! Mashingun!
Can’t wait to get this! Love turn based tactics like Gears Tactics and I’ve been missing Metal Slug 🔥
I’m glad you were pleasantly surprised. I’ve been waiting for this one for a long time, and I’m glad they did a good job. Picking it up today! Thanks for the review.
Thank you! I had my eye on this one, but wanted to make sure the Switch build was a good one.
Performance is not perfect in larger maps as mentioned. It needs at least one patch. It’s overall ok but yeah needs a little tlc. Mark
@@SwitchUpYt Do you think a patch is coming?

Yeeessss! It's here! I've been waiting for this. I love Metal Slug.😋
YEah this is a really nice change of direction IMO - Mark
HEAVY MACHINEGUN!!!!
Loving the pixel art on this one. Definitively my favourite run and gun platformer series now became an excellent tactics game. Whats not to love?
I've been waiting for this damn thing to be released for so long... Finally it's here!!! Definitely getting this one ASAP.
Arggggghhh the backlog!!! I need this though, love both Metal Slug and tactics games. Instant purchase for me. Great review!
Jeez, can you let me finish one tactical RPG before luring me in with another one please?
I've been waiting for your review. Thanks!
I've been looking forward to this game for so long and I'm glad it's living up to the visual promise! Thank you for the review, as always!
Great review, I've been waiting for this one!
Been super excited for this one. I was a little hesitant when I heard it was a roguelike because I was hoping it was just going to be a srpg. But seems like it's still worth picking up! Happy days!
Every time a franchise that in no way lends itself to this formula goes "Tactics", it's an absolute banger. Just ask Onimusha or Gears of War.
Took a while to get here, but looks like it was worth the wait! To the wishlist it goes 😊
@@ppbunt Really fun and cheap - Mark
Is there a good amount of difficulty and variety?
Yeah you can tailor the difficulty - harder you go the more rewards. Mark
88% and could easily pick up a couple more points with a patch! (Hint Hint @devs 😊)
Phew! Was worried I wasn't getting my fix today 😅😅
Haha worries a double dose today my Ys X review is out at midnight. What a CHUNK of a video that turned out to be haha - Mark
This looks surprisingly awesome!
This game looks gorgeous! It's giving me some into the breach vibes but different style for sure. Another one for the wishlist
It's great to have Metal Slug back, and I love the new Tactical gameplay style. The art is awesome, the OST is amazing as always, and the gameplay is really fun! METAL SLUG IS BACK BABY!
Hahaha. I haven't had a Switch for about a year. Yet I am always here for your videos.
Pix N Love is selling a physical copy of this as well .

Well... an early Christmas treat!
Handheld mode chugs like crazy
They need a patch for sure - Mark
Could you ask your publisher contact if they are planning a performance patch?
Does it really? That's a deal breaker for me if it's bad, I play entirely in handheld 😢
What a beautiful game. Always loved Metal Slug's expressive art style
And another one to add to the wishlist! Finally getting around to Prince of Persia myself, absolutely loving it so far! It's helping me forgot about another game that begins with S and ends with ilksong.
Been looking forward to this for years glad to hear it came out pretty solid
Good that its 60fps, maybe switch 2 boost the performance without any patches.
For sure. Mark

@@nayyarrashid4661 Because of smooth animation.
@CyberTrump-co1ml shouldn't effect this type of game. Just stable locked 30
What a delightful looking game to try when my semester ends. What controllers do you recommend in handheld mode?
This has been a really really long time coming
Yeah,art style looks great 👍
Just played the tutorial on gamepass. I like the feel of it so far!
Definitely buying digital and physical copy from LRG, good job 👍
I'm very excited for this game, the only thing letting it down is the inconsistent performance but I'm sure and i hope they will patch it soon
I'm not a Metal Slug fan, but this looks like a blast to play. Onto the list it goes.
Always wanted that 😂😂. Thx for the review.

Above an 80 and it's going in the backlog
Dam. Add it
😝

Gorgeus art
💡 Can you make a list of switch games with the best atmospheric sound design?
I'm thinking of buying this one fr
Grab that physical - Mark
My mans.... I just got Banner of thr Maid. I'm one too many loaded on tactics games.
Looking forward to this on gamepass today
Still debating whether to get this on switch or ps5
PS5

@ unless I wanted handheld the performance at 60 locked would be preferable. Mark
Honestly i won't lie but with how long this was in development i definitely was expecting the worst. But this sounds interesting and fun
The Metal Slug tower defense game was really fun but you hit a wall where you had to grind forever... Does this game do that?
Nevered played this Gans maybe 🤔 I should give it a go
Core Keeper review? I'll probably keep dropping this in on rando videos. Still want Metal Slug Tactics but the reported handheld chugs are gonna get me on a waitforpatch list unfortunately
Hell ya! just what I wanted to watch

How low does the fps go down to in the larger areas?
@@suburbanl3g3nd497 I’d say around 20 fps in the worst places, pretty damn low. Mark
@SwitchUpYt woof. I hope they patch that! Thanks!
It is not my Type of game but it looks truly amazing!
I’ll probably wait until this drops down to 10$ CAD
Has switch up ever covered a Super Robot Wars game? I've recently become slightly obsessed
I can’t remember if Glen did - Mark

"Performance dips"
Dear god, the Switch can't even handle a 2D game.
Nah guys, I’ve just got blasphemous 1&2,
And this comes out 😭😢
Not fair!
Lets Goooo! 😢😢❤❤
Waiting for a sale cause im third world country lol waited for years!!
HIIIIII
Looks kinda confusing,I mean the gameplay..
Do you normally play tactical games?
A 2d game these days having performance drops on the switch...
I don't like grid tactical but love turn based like Octopath
i think you meant Triangle Strategy when you said Octopath Strategy in the VO.
That was one of the controversial issues when it was revealed for beta last year it had a lot of grinding or pay to win mechanics.
P2W on switch, you sure you're on about the sane game?
Wrong Metal Slug game
Forgiving?
Sounds boring
lagged asf
Yessss I’m the first to like and comment 😂😂😂😂🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
😂
Appreciated! Mark
Didn't do anything for me. Maybe I didn't give it enough time.
Fan of xcom and gears tactics btw.
When did you play it mate? Mark
@SwitchUpYt today. Xbox game pass. Should I give it another go?
@ yeah it’s great man I really enjoyed it - gets very compelling once you start unlocking those mods and things. Mark
Thanks Mark. I shall give it another go. :)
Is there a lot of micro transactions?
Why would there be? 😂
