The core Tamils and Sinhalese come from same tribal inhabitants of the island. With the introduction of Buddhism and formation of Sinhala language which formed later than Tamil language, this original inhabitants got split on ethnic lines. Later North Indians joined Sinhalese amass, increasing their numbers. Tamils are mostly those who refused to covert to Buddhism or returnees from Buddhism to original mix of tribal and Saivism. Originally all Buddhists were Tamils, until Sinhalese formed with help of Pali and North Indians. South Indians never joined Tamils as you mention. It was up country plantation Tamils who came from South India very recently as 200 years ago.
The newly joined North Indians who out numbered original Sinhalese 10:1, planted the seeds of friction and hatred for survival and domination purposes. They introduced Aryan superiority thought in otherwise a co-inhabiting ancient society.
It got worse later when Telugu royals intermarried Sinhalese royals. They encouraged wars and annihilation of Tamils, for their survival and domination. By now, Telugus were brutally ruling Tamils in South India. So North Indian portion of Sinhalese (nearly 95%) and Telugu royals planted the seed of current hatred and brutality towards Tamils just to make things easier for them to integrate, dominate and rule the island. Almost all the Sinhalese rulers and elite for last 700 years, come from the North Indian and Telugu spectrum of Sinhalese. It is obvious by their last names, appearances and Tripathi pilgrimages. The original inhabitant portion of Sinhalese, is almost extinct currently. In order to infuse some authenticity, Sinhalese absorbed Tamil Paravars who are the original inhabitants of coasts around the island.
The current (Indian)Sinhalese generously welcomed Indian invader army while Tamils fought tooth and nail to kick them out, comes from "sons of the soil" spirit of Tamils.

Tamil emperors from South India ruled few SEA countries and SL, built irrigation, agriculture and complex structures like Angkor Wat, Borobudur, huge Tamil temples etc. in many countries. They conquered, built and left and never settled any Tamil population anywhere, including SL. As often claimed, those invasions didn't add any Tamil population to Eelam Tamils who were the original inhabitants.

Lot of what you state is true but the Sinhalese are not not of predominantly North Indian origin but are largely descended from the ancient semi/proto or old Tamil speaking tribal Dravidians who migrated to the island during prehistoric times. The Sinhalese largely from the Yaka and the Sri Lankan Tamil largely from the Naga. Immigrants from somewhere is North west India did arrive mostly men but they did not create the Sinhalese or the Sinhalese language, but they came and intermarried into the local Tamil Dravidian tribes or took Pandian Tamil women from south India and got assimilated and their DNA is found both amongst the Sinhalese and Sri Lankan Tamils and not just the Sinhalese only. It was the arrival of Buddhism to the island around 2300 years ago, together with the Pali and Prakrit language, that was closely associated with this new religion and the large scale conversion of the semi or proto Tamil speaking Dravidian Yaka tribes in the south of the island, and their gradual mixing of Pali/Prakrit with their local Tamil dialect that, that created the evolution of the Sinhalese language and identity in the south of the island by 7AD. By around 300BCE the more elite Naga population living along the north east and north western coast, who were trading with world from their ports had adopted proper Tamil as their language and even when Buddhism arrived they did not convert to Buddhism on a large scale like the way the Yaka and their ruling Naga elite did down south but largely remained Saivite and even the ones who converted to Buddhism still retained their ancient Tamil identity and by 10AD even the ancient Tamil Buddhists in these regions had reconverted back to Saivism . The king who converted to Buddhism was a Saivite Tamil Naga, he was called Thevanai Nambiya Theesan in Tamil and Devnaam Piya Tissa in Pali, the meaning is the same in both languages more or less. Theesan was a very common Tamil name during this era, as per Keeladhi excavations. His father was king Mooth Sivan , a pure Tamil name meaning the great or venerated Lord Siva and his older brother was King Maha SIvan, proving they were all Saivite Tamil Naga. Contrary what was previously stated the Kings of Sri Lanka were hardly of North Indian ancestry but belonged to Local Tamil Dravidian Naga origin and later largely from the Pandian Tamil royal family and a few from the Kalinga royal family. The last kings of Kandy were Telugu origin Tamil speaking Naickers from Madurai/Thanjavur regions and they never fostered Telugu but openly fostered Tamil and used Tamil as well as Sinhalese as the court language of the kingdom of Kandy and they used Tamil and most of the present day Kandyan aristocrats and upper castes many now beating the anti-Tamil drum , ironically are largely descended from these South Indian origin Tamil Pandian aristocrats and later after the fall of the Pandians from these Telugu origin Tamil Naickers from Madurai/Thanjavur. These Kandyan aristocrats many of whom themselves were of South Indian Tamil ancestry, ironically did not want a Tamil king to rule them so betrayed his to the British and he and his family were deported to his native Tamil Nadu and not to Telugu lands, after the fall of the kingdom of Kandy by the British and most of these Kandyan aristocrats signed the Kandyan treaty giving the kingdom of Kandy to the British in Tamil. Both the original Sinhalese and Sri Lankan Tamil share the same common ancestry and are the closest to each other. They around 70-75% South Asian and 25-30% Western Eurasian, with the Steppe R1A male DNA found amongst both people, due to this one-off migration of large number of males from somewhere Northwest India and not Bengal as previously thought. The common era of local Naga or South Indian origin Dravidian Tamil or Prakrit speaking Hindu or Buddhist kings/ local chieftains ruling both people ceased around the early 13Th century and then anyone who wanted to be Hindu or Tamil migrated to the Tamil North and east and the ones who wanted to be Sinhalese or Buddhist moved South and the island started to have Sinhalese and Tamil kingdoms and chiefdoms. The Tamil Jaffna kingdom in the north and the eastern Tamil Vannimai chiefdoms under the king of Jaffna in the east until Portuguese defeated the kingdom of Jaffna and the Sinhalese Kingdom of Kotte and Kandy down south. All ruled by South Indian origin Tamil dynasties. The Portuguese captured the kingdom of Jaffna that consisted of the current northern province and the present Trincomalee district north of the Makaveli river, and the coastal Sinhalese kingdom of Kotte. Only the kingdom of Kandy remained and the southern eastern Vannimai Tamil chiefdoms who then sought the protection of the Tamil/Sinhalese kings of Kandy and came under his loose control but the Portuguese later captured these areas too. Due to the treachery of the Kandyan chieftains the Tamil Naicker king of Kandy was defeated in 1815 and he and his family were deported to Tamil Nadu and the British had the entire island. In 1833 the British for their administrative and economic convenience and benefit united the Sinhalese and Tamil parts of the island, that had always remained separate throughout history into one colony and named it Ceylon and they handed the entire island including the hapless Tamil population to the Sinhalese majority and left. They had no right to have done this . They should have divided the island as they had found it or created a federal form of government with protection for the island's Tamils, they never did this. The Sinhalese who never had a peep into the Tamil areas from the past two millennium, now had control of the whole island, and gradually started to set about destroying the island's ancient Tamil Saivite history and past and dismantling it with the power of the government, their majority, resources. They started to concoct and create fake history to justify this, and gullible foreigners believed their lies, as it suited them too politically and economically. Around 30-50% of the present-day Sinhalese, both low and high born are purely or predominantly descended from post 15Th century, south Indian Immigrants mostly from the then Tamil country (Kerala and Tamil Nadu) and some from Telugu areas, mainly southern Andhra. Some came to rule but the vast overwhelming majority were imported by the Portuguese and Dutch colonials to do menial service work or to work as indentured/slave labour in the huge southern spice estates. They were settled along the southern and western coastal areas and over the centuries converted to the Sinhalese Buddhist or Catholic identity. The present day Sinhalese Karawa, Salagam, Durawa and many other castes are descended from these post 15th century immigrants from south India and many of them are now the biggest anti Tamils and the biggest supporters of the Sinhalese Aryan myth. On the other side of the coin most of the Sinhalese upper castes and aristocracy both low country and Kandyan are also descended from South Indian immigrants. Again, largely Tamil but some Telugu. They migrated with each invasion or came as part of the royal retinue when a South Indian princess married the local king and were given lands titles and wealth and stayed behind. 90% of all Sinhalese leaders after the so-called independence belong to this group and again forgotten their own very recent South Indian Tamil immigrant ancestry and are now beating the anti-Tamil drum against the indigenous Tamils from the north and east , who have lived on the island for the past 2500 years or more.

Presence of Tamils in Tamil Nadu is 3 lakh years old, discovery of stone weapons confirmed...
Tamil civilization predates Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam languages
It has been 1500 years since the development of Telugu language which is called Dravidian language
    Kannada 1000
    Malayalam 500
It has been 200 years since Dravidianism was formed in Indian land
Sanskrit language has a history of 2200 years
    Tamil language preceded Sanskrit language
Tamil language has more than 3000 years of history
Call Tamils as Tamils, don't call them Dravidians
Dravidian is the ancestral name of Brahmins
    (Rahul Dravid)
A name referring to South Indian Brahmins
According to Tamil history, Dravida is an Aryan name that corrupted the Tamil language
    Our language is Tamil.
    We are Tamils, not Dravidians
    Kumarikandam (Lemoria)
It is the birth place of Tamil people
    Our history tells us
The Tamil land was submerged in the ocean three times by the sea planet
The present-day Indo-Sri Lankan landmass is a remnant of the Kumari continent
