Been a fan of the Steelers for all of my 53 years. One of my uncles was a schoolmate of Dan Rooney & the Rooney family has stewarded the Steelers for the entire history of the team. The Irish Catholic nature of the Rooneys, the Steelers & Pittsburgh as a whole embodies the determination, hard work & discipline that are at the core of the idenity of Steeler Nation. "The standard is the standard" motto may seem trite, but every player & coach will explain that the support & love of the coaches & Rooneys is what sets them apart from the typical NFL franchise.
IMO the 7 things that changed the Steelers from the joke of the NFL to a Standard Bearer were. 1: Dan Rooney taking over the Day to Day from his dad. The Chief was a great man and good fellow, but his son was the better football man. 2: Hiring Chuck Noll his turn around of the team makes him IMO in the top 5 coaches of all time with George Halas, Paul Brown, Vince Lombardi, and Bill Walsh ahead of him. 3: 3 Rivers Stadium finally having a real home for the team was a boost. 4: The hiring of Bill Nunn as Scout. 5: Myron Cope gave the Steelers their voice and the Terrible Towel. 6: Drafting Mean Joe Greene it was the symbol that Noll was changing the team. 7: Franco Harris and the Immaculate Reception it gave the Steelers their 1st Playoff Win.
To leave Bill Nunn's name out when talking about Chuck Noll's ability to find talent is a travesty. The Steeler's long held and deep seated belief that black men should have representation in coaching staffs and front offices and not just on the field led to Bill Nunn finding HBCU HOF'ers like Stallworth, Blount, and Shell.
Lets be real here tomlin walked into a built superbowl team. The superbowls he won are the 2 that should be with cowher . He only left because of his wifes health
@robertpearson5602 how am I I just told the truth. He was handed a Superbowl winning team . Bill cowher didn't leave because he got fired he left because of his wife's health . Bill cowhers on record saying don't screw it up you'll win at least 2 Superbowls with this team the team cowher built. Since that team a retired Tomlin has t won anything. And I'm from Pittsburgh we measure playoff wins and Superbowls not made up records by ESPN no losing seasons lmfao 9-8 season ain't a losing season
@kathyviglione4226 yes Cowher did a great job at building a championship team, but let's not make the mistake at saying that Tomlin had nothing to do with winning a SB in the '08 season because he did, he still had to go through the draft after Cowher left and some of those draftees played a part in that SB winning season...so as much as I love what Cowher did for the organization, Tomlin played a huge part in picking up the baton and running with it and anybody that can't see that, is really just saying that they don't like Tomlin.
@robertpearson5602 Google it COWHER QUOTED Just hold on with 2 hands and go for the ride. Don't screw it up . This team is built for multiple championships. since that team has retired all of them Tomlin hasn't won a playoff game in a decade. Let's be real don't buy in on this no losing seasons . I'm born and raised in the burgh and we measure success in championships . Not ESPN talking points no losing seasons my a$$
The only reason Tomlin won a super bowl is because the team was already in place. He wasted Rothesburger s best years. A good coach would have won at least 3 super bowls with quarter back like him. Tomlin is a loser. Sorry.
I saw my first Steelers Game in 1969 aged 9 at Pitt Stadium v. the Washington Deadskins... Coach Noll (R) 1-13 Team... Joe Greene's (R) with Dick Shiner and Roy Jefferson, Andy Russell, Dick Hoak, Ray Mansfield and Pittsburgher Paul Martha who later was the Penguins CEO. The crowd was sparse and the men wore suits and Fedora hats smoking cigars. It was a different time.
@@FootballLoreOfficialNo he didn't. That's not a knock on Tomlin but Ben was already rookie of the year in 2004 with a 15-1 -record and a super bowl victory in 2005. I love Tomlin but he had nothing to do with Roethlisberger development in fact he was handed down Cowher's coaching staff and players. And to his credit he had success with it but let's not pretend that he developed Roethlisberger. BTW still a good video
Ben is an average QB, who got lucky and was drafted on a team who had Jerome Bettis, a great O-line, and Hines Ward (SB MVP). The Steelers always drafted WR's well, (Santonio Holmes also SB MVP), and never Ben because he is above average, but not great. That's why he couldn't beat Tom Brady.
Amazing video!
Thanks!
Steelers don’t fire Head Coaches..they enshrine them..🖤💛#HereWeGo
Amen
Best NFL franchise
Open Secret: "The Standard is The Standard." 🖤💛
Wild they’ve had three coaches in 55 years. There are six teams in the NFL that are younger than that.
insane stability
Pittsburgh actually got five HoFers in 1974. Donnie Shell was an undrafted FA.
Randy Grossman was also a free agent that year

great franchise
I will say steelers aren't my favorite team. But they committed to their coaches more than any other. 3 coaches since the 70's. Crazy.
HERE....WE....EFIN....GO!
6 League Championships. 8 Conference Championships. 24 Division Titles. Domination indeed!
facts!
Total respect. 3 coaches since 1969. Some teams have 3 in the last 5 years and I'm not a fan.
What a FANTASTIC Story of the Steeler head coaches.
The Steelers won 6 Super Bowls with three different head coaches.
Patriots did it with 1
@@ingibingi2000yeah in time you couldn't play Defense because the league wanted more scoring
@ingibingi2000 and cheated for half of them

great points
Bill Nunn had a great eye for talent. He knew to look down South for the unknown, and not heavily recruited players. His scouting changed everything.
@@nickgangone9541 The impact that Nunn had in changing the franchise is often drastically underrated.
💯 Dan was much better than his father and his son lol
this was awesome
thanks
Time for the Steelers to lead the way again. No more Gatorade. Carry the HC in honor on players shoulders.
This all possible because of The Chief and the way the Rooneys have done it the right way since 1933 🍻all

The killer B’s were the biggest missed opportunity of talent EVER in the NFL!! That team should have won at least 2 Super Bowls!!
Y aun asi dejaron pasar a Marino.Favre en el draft cuantos SB se pudieron haber ganado mas
Lets get #7 with Russell Wilson being coached by Pittsburgh
How do u not know how to pronounce half these names?
how is your mom so promiscuous? guess well never know
Super Bowl Ex El?????????
