Even though I’ve been surfing and watching the WCT over years now, I think it is great this surfing 1o1 idea. My wife has been following the competition now and this kind of videos can help her! Many thanks!

Individual Wave Scores: As each surfer catches waves and completes rides, the judges award scores for each wave based on its quality and the surfer's performance on that wave. These scores typically range from 0 to 10, with decimal increments.
Best Waves Count: Surfers are usually allowed to catch a certain number of waves during the heat (typically around 10 to 15 waves). However, only their best-scoring waves count toward their heat total. For example, if a surfer catches 8 waves during a heat, only their top 2 or 3 scoring waves will contribute to their final score.
Heat Total: Once the heat is over, the scores of the surfer's best waves are added together to calculate their heat total. This total represents the surfer's overall performance in the heat and determines their ranking relative to the other surfers in the heat.
Advancement: In some competition formats, surfers compete in multiple heats, with the goal of advancing through rounds toward the final. Surfers with the highest heat totals in each heat typically advance to the next round of competition.
Tiebreakers: In the event of a tie between surfers' heat totals, additional criteria may be used to determine the winner, such as the highest individual wave score or the highest-scoring backup wave.

I do kayak-surf a lot, haven't surfed on a board ever, but I never understood why judges and board-surfers in general value barrels that much. Aerial tricks and manouvers, or the other mavouver you guys do, the one you turn 180 and then ride the wave again, these seem harder to tackle and land to me!
