    Your Momma was correct! The metal spoon will react with the acid of the tomatoes and the salsa will have a metallic taste

    • @glendabrady9996
      @glendabrady9996 3 года назад +27

      That’s right, my mom told me about that as well. Tomatoes are acidic , therefore causing the metallic taste. But now most spoons are made with stainless steel.

    I just wanted you to know that I made your "Everyday Salsa," and it is a staple in our home now. It is so easy to make, we always have the ingredients, but it is hard to keep track of when I need to make more. I am constantly hearing the echoes of my family throughout the day: "Is there any Salsa left" "where did all the salsa go" and "Mom, you need to make more salsa." As I said, we don't know how we ever lived without it.

    Mrs. Rachel, your mom most likely did not recommend using a medal spoon to insert inside the glass jar because if you drop the medal spoon to hard or in time (base on the thickness of the glass jar) it can break.

    Who needs Google when you have Rachel? (and her mom) who knew way before the internet why to not use a metal spoon in your tomatoe dishes. One reacts with the other, it puts a tinny taste into your salsa or spaghetti sauce. Its the little things that make great cooks. Keep making us all great cooks, Rachel. God Bless.

    • @1FantasticDreamBird
      @1FantasticDreamBird 2 года назад +9

      @@chucksracingchannel377 Just add vinegar or sugar to tone down heat from peppers, a tablespoon at a time to taste. Serrano peppers are actually up to 8 times hotter than jalapeno peppers on the scale. I usually add 1or 2 jalapenos. If wanting the heat from a serrano, just add one.

    You Mom was right about the metal spoon. You should never use any kind of metal utensil in Mason jar. It can scratch the interior of the jar, which can effect the canning process. It can also cause small hard to see fractures in the jar, which can cause the jar to break during the canning process. So Mom knew what she was talking about. Pam in South Carolina 😊

    I am a canner and have always been told not to use metal in the canning jars because they can cause small cracks in the glass that are not detectable . Whenever I put a jar of my homemade applesauce on the table always use a plastic spoon.

    Awesome salsas! Yes, the metal reacts to the acid in the tomatoes and will give you an unpleasant taste. Felicidades and bendiciones!

    Great Salsa. I was always taught to never use a metal spoon when its a heavy tomatoes dish. at 45 I have never googled it either LOL.

    I’m making your salsa right now as soon as my Mike💕 gets home from the store to go with your flautas.
    ***EDIT*** I am in the process of making this now and wow, spicy…I had to add a can of diced tomatoes. I thought about removing the seeps from 1/2 of the peppers but wanted to do it right. Now to make the flautas… we’re using corn tortillas for half, dinner is going to be amazing!
    DELICIOUS! This recipe is a keeper and I will be making this on the regular. Thank you for sharing.

      Lol!! I got some chips and salsa right after reading this!! These 2 salsas are delicious!! The posole one goes so well with so many things, well actually they both do, but I love the one in the jar with breakfast, my Ron is hooked on them lol!! My posole was delicious and all gone now, and this is the way I make it every time I make pozole... I hope you've been on cloud9 all these days celebrating with your Johnny, what a fun way to start the New Year!! I enjoy your morning posts every day and I'm glad your back...thank you for your comment my friend and super enjoy every day. Hugs and love.❤
