  • Today we finally get to take a look at Stoneground Paint Co. handmade watercolors! I’ve had this brand for nearly three years now and am smitten with them. This video is a Swatch With Me style video, and a full review will be coming soon. Stoneground is located in Canada but happily ships internationally!

    I have made several purchases from Stoneground with my own money. Some of the paints in this video were provided to me by the company without the expectation of a review. This video is not sponsored, and I am not an affiliate of Stoneground Paint Co.

    I FORGOT TO MENTION and I hope you see this. That darker PG 17 Florentine Green reminds me of the Schmincke Hematite Black, which is ALSO PG 17 and not hematite. It's been heated up until it turns a very dark shade of green, almost black. You should check it out! It's beautiful. I would say that Florentine Green is right in the middle between the Hematite Black and Oxide of Chromium.

    • @InLiquidColor
      @InLiquidColor  Год назад +1

      Cris! You are very right. When I originally tried Hematite Black, I have a "?" written for pigment number next to it, and the dot card paper makes it look more neutral, so I must not have clocked that! I just swatched out the three colors, and it indeed makes a nice gradient. I'll post it tomorrow to Instagram to share that info. Thank you!

    I contacted the company a few months ago to ask for clarification regarding "with appropriate use". Here is what I received when I asked after Delft cobalt blue gouache.
    "The reason we put that description on the website is that the paint is totally safe to use in the proper way. When I paint I often find it on my hands and occasionally on my face (somehow). I have no concerns about this. Our research has shown that there have not been any concerns with artist grade cobalt pigments. We discourage eating the paint or drinking the water for obvious reasons. This is where the appropriate use comes in."

    Oh those are nice, but the shipping...
    I'd be curious which supplier they use for the PG7, it just doesn't seem right and I'd be tempted to run some analytics on it, with that big of a color shift, there has to be something different in the composition.
    Oh and to be fair, I think "do not leave someone who'll eat artist watercolors alone with your expensive paints" and "research your local waste disposal" are pretty much self explanatory for handling paints appropriately.
    Something I'd like to ask in general, will there be another series on pigments? I find these very useful and the last one was a pretty long time ago. No pressure, I'm just curious :)

    • @InLiquidColor
      @InLiquidColor  Год назад +1

      We'd all love for people to have common sense about paint safety, but I've heard so many stories that indicate otherwise. Education is never a bad thing, and hopefully the fact that I'm focused on an educational viewpoint is no surprise :)
      There will be at least three more Color Spotlight episodes this year, I hope!

    • @madeleines.9192
      @madeleines.9192 Год назад

      @@InLiquidColor oh I love the news about the color spotlights! They are my favorite of your videos!
      And for paint safety, yes education is always good and more common sense would be nice I guess. It's just that local regulation on waste disposal will be quite different for a lot of people and I wouldn't put it on small sellers like them to research it for all places they ship to and otherwise the information will probably cause trouble

    • @InLiquidColor
      @InLiquidColor  Год назад

      I'm glad you're excited about the Color Spotlights! I am not suggesting a seller has to research safety protocol for every country, state, district, and city they ship to. I am suggesting they use the international guidelines set by ASTM to inform people of potentially harmful substances, especially when pets and children are involved. Yes it is a parent/adults responsibility to take care of their charges. However, that's not the world we live in. In my personal opinion, it's more responsible and educational to say that something is toxic when handled improperly rather than say something is non-toxic when handled properly. Again, I understand that the company's intent is to let people know these are safe products so that people don't overreact or avoid them. However, I see people way too often letting their cats drink paint water. If information was more readily available, perhaps that behavior could be stopped.

    • @madeleines.9192
      @madeleines.9192 Год назад

      @@InLiquidColor I understand what you mean better now. I'm not that optimistic about it changing the outcome, but a good compromise for them would probably to put something like "Safe when probably handled, not safe when ingested / whatever is appropiate here" and link to the SDS from their pigment provider on the website so people don't panic.
