  • Hello! Since many people are interested in this new Holbein Granulating watercolor now, I've come to the decision (while filming this actually) to upload the uncut, unedited video. I will do my best to edit a nice and shorter video and upload it within a week. I'm also thinking of making two versions, one with voice-over in Polish, and one in English! :D
    So if you're really interested in swatches - here they are! If you can bear the awkward pauses and a long vid, let's go! :D
    I bought my paints here, for 7,744JPY:
    www.gazaihanba...
    Sketchbook: kovalshop.com/en/
    Thank you Keiko for kindly bringing my paints to Poland :D
    Enjoy the video!

      I asked at the local art supply store and apparently holbein is only planning to sell this in foreign markets in autumn! So don't worry, you will be able to buy it within a few months!

    Love this video. First time I watched you. Some of the colors I love. You mentioned the Schmenke granulating. I have a few of them. Also found a Canadian company called Rockwell that has some beautiful ones. I am going to follow. I really enjoyed

      Yes, nowadays so many watercolor paint makers have got granulating paints, honestly Holbein is a little bit late to the ball ;)

    yay! thanks for showing us! i'm sad mimosa yellow is low tinting. several of these seem very dejavu to me because they're similar to kusakabe harmonia colours. surprisingly i like pampas yellow and jade vine blue haha~

    • @Mmmmagu
      @Mmmmagu  Месяц назад +2

      I think in this day and age we have tons of granulating/separating/specialty watercolors to choose from, so indeed it would be hard for Holbein to come up with something incomparable and revolutionary. I suppose if someone already has a nice selection of franulating colors, there's no need to get this whole set, maybe 2-3 colors they reaaaally like :)
      Mimosa Yellow is not the only weak color, quite a few of them seem low tinting, eg Lunar Eclipse Red or Trumpet Vine Red also felt kind of weak, like maybe too much binder. But maybe that's just my luck and the paint deeper in the tube will behave differently

    • @PaintinHiding
      @PaintinHiding Месяц назад +2

      @@Mmmmagu that's very true. i think schmincke came out with a great range and we definitely saw many similar ones in the white nights' granulating colours. as time goes on, i'm sure there will be less and less 'new' colour combos/pigment combos.
      i was really glad we got to see u squeeze the paint onto the paper because that also gives info as to whether or not a colour is strong tinting or not. some people make swatch videos (myself included) that don't have that part for viewers to gauge so i think it was very nice to have seen that here :D

    • @Mmmmagu
      @Mmmmagu  Месяц назад +1

      @@PaintinHiding oh, thank you for the feedback! :D to me it seems like those paints aren't extremely strong/pigmented/cost-effective, so I'd like them to be sold in 10ml tubes tbh
      I think it's visible in the video that I don't skimp on the paint, but still it's not very strong ^^;

    Mimosa yellow looks similar to one of the colors from Schmincke Shire set - shire olive or green :) just wanted to comment while watching so I wont forget :D

    • @Mmmmagu
      @Mmmmagu  Месяц назад

      That's possible. Is that color also so weak in pigment? To me it seemes similar to Green Earth or that one Roman Szmal earth pigment green, bc they are all very delicate. I have none of those colors tho, so just speculating... :)

    • @Mmmmagu
      @Mmmmagu  Месяц назад +2

      Great, I wanted people to be able to see how the paints perform and make an informed decision. We are so often tempted to buy a new product, just because it's new... I fall victim to that thinking myself XD So if my video can help anyone, it's served its purpose.
      I agree that some colors are undewhelming ^^

  • @JoseGonzalez-wq5jd
    @JoseGonzalez-wq5jd Месяц назад +1

    I guess if you put the extra second set in a box or something you can leave it there and wait ten or twenty years to see if it’s worth more. There may be pigments on it that may disappear someday. I know some people today would pay extra for tubes containing PO49 quin gold or PB33 manganese blue or py153 new gamboge, especially single pigment or some of the two pigment ones like some old Sap greens that were reformulated.

    • @Mmmmagu
      @Mmmmagu  Месяц назад

      Yes, I'm aware of the discontinued pigments thing, I was lucky enough to get a little sample of PO49 from a friend who bought just the pigment, and made the watercolor paint herself! :D
      But I don't really think of them as an investment, I just want to use them and have fun. They should become available for purchase outside Japan soom ^^

  • @M0odyBlue

    If a pigment is lightfast, wouldn’t it be lightfast across all mediums? I like some of their colors, but don’t want the whole set.

    • @Mmmmagu
      @Mmmmagu  20 дней назад

      Well, I suppose yes, that should be the rule, however different paints use different additives, which may impact the overall lightfastness. Those paints are avaialable as a set ot individually in 5ml tubes in Japan, We can expect the same in other markets once they are released :)
