  • Friday May 31st 2019 witnessed the culmination of Exercise Diamond Storm and the Air Warfare Instructors Course, with the conclusion being the biennial Dawn Strike, with aircraft from RAAF Base Williamtown defending the airspace against the opposing aircraft, which are the students taking part in AWIC19.
At approximately 6:15am, a pair of 3 Squadron F-35’s taxied out and held at the end of the runway until taking off at 6:30am, which started a constant stream of RAAF ‘classic’ Hornets taking off to meet the oncoming attackers.
ASO’s videographer braved the freezing conditions to capture this momentous occasion, with this being the last time so many Hornets will be airborne at the same time, with their numbers slowly decreasing as the JSF is introduced.
