So Miss Paula boiled peanuts I grew up with in India! FYI not sure all Indians necessarily know or eat this but my grandpa was the Chief Chef for the British army in Nagpur back when the English and Portuguese ruled India. He raised 11 children all college educated on that salary. My love and knack of cooking all things simple like this and more complex comes from him. I never met him but he had green eyes and of all his 13 children ( lost twins in childhood ) only my mum had his skin coloring and his green eyes. As a result I have tiger eyes ( they called me tigereyes growing up).TFS this recipe Now to find some green peanuts online to boil. We did not refrigerate most things freshly made and ate them all gone. Please share any tips on storing them if possible. I will use them to make a chicken and peach dish ( self created recipe) also as fresh peaches are still really good.
Miss Paula you must be hotstuff 😂 because you said Michael likes hot stuff🤭🤣

Dear ol Justin Wilson and my Granny are my kitchen inspirations so I gotta Cajun it up a little...I had never thought of Jalapeno or Habanero in a pot of these but dang if dat don't sound good yeah. Here's another idea. You can wash em good before you boil to get alot of field dirt off, get you some taters and don't peel em, when you finish your peanut, boil the taters in the seasoned water. They'll soak up the salt and seasonings, ready to go! I've rescued a pot or two of beans I over salted once or twice like that . Beans ain't too salty and taters are just right too!😂😂

I'm not Paula for sure, and don't know where you can get Green Peanuts in Canada. Not sure they even grow peanuts in Canada, but if you have a farmer's market there, check it out. They may have some. If not, you can soak dried peanuts in water for a while (have to experiment with it, I know it can be done, but I've never done it). You can boil them after they soak good, but they are not as good as green ones are. They will work though.
As far as "cracking" one, on the opposite end of the stem, you will notice a "point". You just squeeze them with the "seam" pointed at you and they will pop open.

@@rtshort Very much appreciate the comment - even if you're not Paula 😄.
We do get blanched peanuts from our Bulk Barn (dry foods bin store) , and we have made peanut soup with them using a stock base that doesn't appeal to me now (European version from flour, paprika,fat/ olive oil warmed on a pan and mixed into a thick base solidified in the fridge) , vegetable stock tastes too thin or something off with the peanuts,so not quite sure what version to use them. Otherwise, with a well harmonized soup base I rather like the crunchy peanut soup(if you know of a peanut soup recipe I would love to know).
As for farmers markets I've never seen peanuts or any kind of locally grown nuts there....chestnuts aren't local, neither are pecans or hazelnuts/filberts - I've always wondered what nuts we could grow locally. Here soybeans, corn, winter wheat are our field crops, squash, eggplant, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes - Leamington is tomato capital of Canada , string beans, berries etc. are our garden/farm stand vegetables . We can grow okra in a garden but this is not a vegetable that shows up at farm stands, it's a more unusual garden choice, most of it is woody or wilted at supermarkets. The farmers markets also bring greenhouse produce in - mostly the aforementioned, but I have gotten figs .
I was surprised though that Saskatchewan grew so many lentils and chickpeas,so maybe somewhere peanuts can grow? My mom said when she was a kid they even tried growing a little in their backyard garden - and it did grow some, but recent years we haven't even had much luck with regular peas .
Thank you for your suggestions. Maybe I will try with the blanched peanuts .
(By the way,do you ever refer to peanuts as goobers?) .

We use an Instant Pot. 1/4 cup of Tony's Creole, 1/2 cup salt , 1 Tablespoon onion powder, 1/2 Tablespoon garlic powder and a dash of Liquid Smoke. Lord Hammercy I can eat a pot full. They freeze well after cooking and they do good in the fridge. That much salt its hard for stuff to go bad, I gaaaaurrrontee!😂...That pressure cooking on high will cut you cook time down but we still soak em like crawdads!😂😂
