How do you cook your green beans?
Without meat. Recipe turns out great 👍🙂
This brings back memories. Popping green Beens for mom on Saturday night or Sunday morning before church. ❤️❤️
I can my beans in a pressure cooker, open up a jar or two and cook them low and slow with a ham hock or two.
I fry a few pieces of bacon. Sauté some onions and then add my seasonings and just a little butter. Add my beans cook them down and add a little sugar if needed and serve them up.
When I cook a ham, I cut the remaining off and freeze it. I cook my green beans with a little sugar, salt, peper, a little corn oil, a small piece of the ham, and a onion.
This brought a tear to my eye. Many many a Saturday and Sunday afternoon were spent sitting with my grandfather with a newspaper in our lap breaking and stringing a couple bushels of green beans.
My grandparents grow them. Lots of summers spent up in TN doing this. Nostalgic:)
Yes!! Leather Britches hanging up to dry. Remember?
Yes! Papaw loved hot peppers too. Used to grow cayenne by the bushel and now you can't find it in a store for hot sauce making
@@tikkidaddy Awe how sweet. My papaw was the same. Such sweet sweet memories.
He would go over in the neighbor's yard and rake up bushels of black walnuts and we would sit with a hammer and a hunk of steel and crack them and pick those too...best Black Walnut pound cake God ever let a man bake😆
I love these videos. It's as if we are all sitting together in the kitchen taking care of the beans.
Exactly!!🥰
My mother had that pot! My father found one at a house that was being worked by urban renewal. I was a teenager ( I'm 60 now) He cleaned it up for her and she loved it! When my parents passed, it was something that everyone wanted to have. Mom was loved by all of her kids! ❤️
Mine had that pan she's putting the beans into as she snaps them. Watching Paula snap those beans really takes me back to sitting on the porch with my mom snapping a huge paper bag full of beans or a basket of the ones she grew. She would use bacon a lot of the time if she couldn't find jowl. Wow what memories.
❤Green beans😊
I make my green beans just like you. I learned from you a long time ago. I can hardly ever find hog jowls so I usely do ham hocks or ham or bacon. So yummy. Now my mouth is watering green beans and all the good country trimmings to go with them. What else are serving Paula? Love and Best dishes
I think they're much better without hog jowls in it. I've been into steaming everything lately after I received a two part stainless steel steamer that you use on the stove. I have yet to find any vegetable that isn't made better by steaming it! I love almost all vegetables anyway, but steaming takes them to a new level and has even gotten my husband to eat brussel sprouts, which is kind of a miracle, lol.
They looked delicious. I could sit and listen to your stories all day.
I had just moved to Tennessee when I saw your video on green beans. You sauted bacon and onions, mixed in the beans, and tossed, and added chicken broth. You added new potatoes later. I have literally made these hundreds of times, for pot lucks, gifts etc Thanks..and I always tell people I got the recipe from you.
Hi Paula. I've never had beans cooked this way, I'm going to try your recipe. They look delicious
My mother and grandmother not only put potatoes in their green beans but also some nice chunks of carrots.
I love fresh green beans!!! Now how much do y’all want to bet that Paula will be in the kitchen on thanksgiving day at her restaurant? Ya kniw she can’t stay away from the stove! ❤️
Ham, green beans and potatoes! Yummy! Brings back loads of memories!
Sounds absolutely delicious to me considering we all love Green Beans.
I’m from Southern California Paula and have never heard of hog jowl but now I live in southwest Florida with my husband who grew up in parts of Kentucky and is teaching me about southern food. Maybe will have to do the green beans and hog jowl this holiday season😀
I'm from Southern California, too. Only time I ever heard of hog jowls was from Granny Clampet on The Beverly Hillbillies.
@@baconbap 😂😂👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Have you ever had Half Runner Green beans? Their my absolute favorite and my family grew and canned them when I was growing up. Great memories snapping them with my grandma. It was by far my favorite meal. Cooked with little red potatoes on them. Served on the side home grown tomatoes and baby cucumbers with cornbread, Fried Chicken, chicken gravy, mashed potatoes, and green onions (sticking in a glass of water on the table). The best of the best times!
Thank you for all the videos. Your my favorite cook since I was little. And I’m 48 now. Savannah Georgia restaurant was THE BEST food I’ve ever ate. All your employees were the greatest.
I love Green Beans! My friend gives me fresh green beans and fresh beats from their garden. The best way to prep the fresh veggies is in the instant pot. There is nothing like pulling out a bag of fresh veggies from the freezer in the dead of Winter. Thanks Paula, love your channel.❤️
I hope to see Aunt Peggy's sweet potato suffla recipe again around thanksgiving again
Soufflé?
My family has always used a couple TBSP's of bacon grease. If we're out of that, we'll fry up one or two pieces of 🥓 bacon, use that bacon, & it's grease.
Mmmmm. We always make a big batch of cornbread to go with it.
😁 👋 🥓
From a South Georgia girl, those are some tasty southern green beans! Had my mouth watering. 😍
Ham hocks, salt pork or southern country ham are also great in beans. Southern country ham is really hard to find around here.
Morning friends 🌷🌄🌻🌸
I ate at your restaurant in Pigeon Forge and it was some of the best food I've ever eat thank you Paula
My grandma had us snapping beans in the living room a lot when I was a kid. A lot! Lol
I miss her cooking. I didn't know what a treasure it was. Being born and raised in NC it was common for the veggies to be cooked in such a way. I miss grandma's cooking after watching this video. ❤
I find it all year at a grocery called Sav A Lot and in the past few months I see it a Walmart near the bacon. Here in southern Ohio- Ashland Ky area green beans are cooked with bacon and red potatoes and often chopped onion, one cup of water simmer 35 minutes
This was so interesting to watch --- this is a new way to cook green beans, which looks a whole lot better than my standard way, which is very bland compared to Miss Paula's way! I will try this, that is, if I can find hog jowls. God bless and have a wonderful day!
Baconworks
Yumalicious as usual ! Love the large heavy duty cooking pot. Not everyone knows what pork jowls are. Maybe a short explanation ?🐷
Perfect for some green bean sandwiches! My Granny would make those for me with soft white bread and mayonaise and sometimes a slice of tomato and onion. They were so good!
I've never thought of trying that, glad you mentioned it. Thank you!
Love those beans..my Mom and Mother-In-Law always made them in the dangerous
Pressure cooker..i need to buy one of yours!!
Good morning Paula and Eddie those green beans sure look yummy and know they are hope you have a blessed day too all ❤❤
Pole beans are harder to grow...they require more manpower to "train" the beans to grow up/around a pole or a trellis. Bush beans are easier.
Paula..you inspire us all in the food business. I do a daily Facebook Live
Food demo one-handed..
All inspired by you!! I do some RUclips but each time i have to relearn
How to do it. Learning Disabled. But if you have chosen it i will get it together eventually! Love love love!!!
Best way to fix them for sure. . My husband was a vegetable broker and just before Thanksgiving we'd put a bushel of green beans
in the trunk of our car and fill up bags and give them to our family and friends, miss those days! Thank you Paula.
@Linda Humes - Hi Linda, I’m Norma Collins from Texas. I have a question for you. what is a ‘vegetable broker?’ I’m 69 years old, but I have no idea what a vegetable broker is. Have a wonderful week & happy cooking & baking! Thank you in advance,
NORMA COLLINS FROM TEXAS
@@normacollins3844 Hi Norma, my husband would supply his farmers in N.C., S.C., Ga. Fl. with seed so they could produce all kinds
of vegetables and then he would sell them for the farmers and get them a descent price. They'd sell to restaurants, grocery stores other
vegetable brokers who didn't have a good year and so forth and so on. My husband was wonderful to his farmers, they all were able
to afford wonderful educations for their families and luxury cars. He would even help them with farm equipment. This is the way
life should be. We should want everyone to succeed if we do. Anyway sorry to ramble
@@normacollins3844 BTW, I've got you beat I'm 74😂
How do you have so much energy, Miss Paula??!! Love it and thanks for sharing with us!!
We grew pole beans this summer... didn't have enough, but it was our first try 🙃 Got about 2 servings.. LOL But they were delicious!
This sounds like an advertisement. If you go to Sevierville, TN, be sure to go to Dollywood, The Apple Barn and Old Mill restaurants. There's so much to do and eat around Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. It's a great trip! The National Quartet Convention is in September if you love Southern Gospel music.
I really enjoy this video love the stories and Un rushed content
Paula, My Mama ALWAYS fries up about 8 lbs of Hog Jowl EVERY New Years Day!!!! We have always called it RailRoad Bacon, because my Grand Daddy LOVED to eat it fried and he worked for the RailRoad!!!! LOL LOVE ME SOME FRIED HOG JOWL :)
Love Southern Green Beans!!! You use hog jowls ham hocks, and we used bacon fat I snapped a many a green beans with my grandma Rinehart my mom's mother That pan looks like the 1950's Wearever 10-15 qt pan I cooked Green beans and my white beans. Mom got a set of cookware for her and dad's wedding in 1956. When canned green beans came it was easier. Cook them in pork fat(bacon fat) water spices can't remember the spice mix. Lot of salt and pepper for sure. YUM. Your recipe so close to my grandmother's. Homeade. It's Thanksgiving Day so Sat is 2 days from now I hope your enjoying the Paula Deen Family Kitchen and the Paula Deen Lumberjack Park!!!! Love you Paula!
My Mom always made green beans with onions and bacon!!!! I still do.....and it is a staple in our Holiday kitchen!!!! Love it!!!
I make them about the same as well. Taught by my mom who is from Arkansas. We would grow these in our garden and sit out side and snap beans! She also liked to add a bit of vinegar to them. Thanks Paula!
I love green beans! Dogs almost always love them too. I read somewhere that green beans are almost universally loved by dogs, so I decided to feed them to my dog, Sophie, the pickiest dog in all the world. And she gobbled them right up and wanted more! If you want to try it with your dog just make sure to use unsalted or very low sodium green beans and no hog jowl (too salty). I don't any use animal fat in my beans, but my picky dog loves them anyway.
Hi Paula! I love fresh green beans and you cooked them exactly the way my Arkansas Granny did! She always called it "green beans cooked way down low"! 🥰 The water level is so important to make them soft and delicious! Love you and your videos! Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe!❤️🙏
My New England grandmother always used salt pork in her green beans. They tasted so good! I’m not sure if they even sell salt pork anymore?
My Gramps, Ivan Clare Johnson ll, worked at Alcoa. He made a big cauldron there, much like your pan. It had the handle like that, & a sturdy woodpiece hand protector. Miss my Gramps & his fabrications: a folk art puzzle, nut cracking bowls with sturdy hammers, pans, knives, & just his humor & genius. He was a sweet & humble man.💙
This is exactly how my granny cooked hers they were delicious thank you so much for showing this!
Memories...my dad always had a garden. My mom always canned green beans every year till she was about 85. My dad liked to watch em' grow! My poor mom worked so hard canning. She canned close to 100 quarts every year. (Big family) But everyone loved her canned green beans. When we were young we would sit outside or in the kitchen and break beans. A family affair! Lol! When I moved out, I used to go over there and see all the beans. I would try to get her to let me take some of them and give them away. She had to can them first! Loved her green beans so much!!!
Then when she cooked hers to serve they were much like yours. Mom's secret ingredient was a little bit of sugar. This makes them look glazed, and taste sooo good! I so miss my mom. Love watching Paula's cooking videos! ❤️🥰😘
My Momma and Aunt made the best country green beans. I am still trying to master them. They used hog jowl and cooked them down until they were flat and almost scorched. They were soooo good! I will try your recipe and see if they turn out similar.
I grew Yardlong green beans this summer and I canned nearly 30 pints of them in addition to having 2 gallons in the freezer. I've given away almost as much as I've put up. From NINE vines. NINE.
I'm not a southerner. And neither was my granny. But that is how my granny used to make green beans. Except she used ham hocks not hog jowl. Hog jowl is not generally available in stores here. She didn't call it Southern Green Beans. It was just Green Beans & Potatoes.
Memories ... 😍😢⚘
Used to sit on my Mamaw & Bapop's giant front porch on their ranch in the summers snapping beans for Mamaw. She was the "bestest cook in the world". I miss her cooking and visits so much.
Thank you, Paula, for bringing back such sweet memories. Mamaw used hamhocks for her main seasoning; no part of meat ever went to waste.
Wish I could find her "Mock Lemon Pie" recipe made with vinegar. My great grandmother created the recipe she used during the Depression as it was impossible to find lemons where my grandparents lived, and it was Mamaw's favorite dessert.
My great grandmother had 12 kids and learned to cook everything cheap, but still really good. Mamaw lost her mother at a young age, but my wonderful paternal great grandmother taught her how to cook and they were very close. Great grandmother, grandmothers, & Mama all gone. Hard because both my parents were only children, no aunts. Wonderful to have the best memories in these hard times ...🕇⚘
Hi Paula , these string beans look delish !!
I have a ham bone in my freezer , I’m definitely making these !! Thank you for the recipe ❤️
My grocery store had hog jowls last visit n I absolutely love them in pinto beans! Will try this too!
I have made these for my family 3 times sence watching this. I will never open a can og green beans again. My family cant get enough of these. Yhanks Ms. Paula.
Paula I know for a fact these green beans are delicious. I have used your recipe for many years. My grand babies love love them too. Thank you Paula...Mrs Steve
❤️ 😍 💖 ❣️ 💕 💘 ❤️ Love good green beans. This brings memories of doing these with my neighbors. Miss them.
Thanks for letting everyone know in advance about the Thanksgiving trip. I'm sure many will be there to see you!
Paula, I had my very first Thanksgiving dinner prepared by my family last year. It was ok to let others take over the reins as I did many years ago for my mom.❣️
Love green beans! As always, a fun and delicious video. Thank you.
Love You Paula!..Sending love from South Carolina!..My Mama always said U gotta cook them down low!!.Lord I miss her from saying that!..Be blessed
🙋 From Missouri. Wish I could have seen you in Branson but I watched your video!
I've been to your restaurant in Savannah and really enjoyed it !
When I was growing up I would sit with my mom and snap green beans and cook in the slow cooker then we would add onions and potatoes and bacon or ham chunks.
One day a few years ago I decided I needed to teach my granddaughters how to snap green beans... haha. Guess now that the grandsons are getting older I need to teach them!
Last night I sat with my 9 yr old grandson and shuck corn to make Mexican corn for his Mom's birthday today.
We had a blast trying to see who could shuck the fastest.. haha...it was great! Trying to create memories with my grandkids ❣️
Eddie has a great voice and could be a DJ.
I was literally Googling “Paula Deen Green Beans” last night to make this weekend🤯 I hope these are half as good as they are in your restaurant!!🙌
THEY TURNED OUT AMAZING…. Wow!!!
I'm right there with you about the 1000 years of not cooking Thanksgiving!
A big ol'; pot of fresh green beans & jowl is mighty good y'all... Love and Best dishes Paula..😋🤗😘😁😍❌⭕
Paula have you we have Bubba Gump shrimp out here in Las Vegas have you ever thought about putting Paula Deen restaurants in one of the casinos here in Las Vegas I am a southern child from Mobile Alabama I fell in love with your food because it reminds me so much of my mother we would love to have some good old southern stuff here in Las Vegas
This Southern Green Beans recipe looks so delicious, 😋 Paula.
So glad to see how to cook these green beans, Thank You!
I could sit there chat with you and watch you cook every day if I could. I enjoy your videos and love listening to you talk. ♥️
I used a piece of corned beef once instead of smoked Turkey and it was fabulous.
I love the ending
“Now I’m gon make a pound cake!”
Southern green beans followed by a pound cake… sign me up
Thank you Paula. I just moved to Savannah and I haven’t made any new friends yet. You make me smile like a sweet dear friend. I love watching your videos.
I remember my great grandmother making them with bacon. Not sure exactly how they were prepared but still the most delicious green beans I ever had. I want to try your recipe they look delicious too.
WOW! My Grandmother who was born in 1918, she made her beans that way, toward the end she put to capfuls of white vinegar. It a meal in its self white the potatoes. She called it Mittag, meaning one pot in German. Thanks for sharing!👍❤️
That’s a interesting tip..the vinegar part..
My grandmother in Montgomery would put a dash of sugar and a capful of vinegar in her summer corn she was boiling; I don’t know how or why but that was always the best corn- Sometimes even better than Jersey summer corn we’d have on vacation.
Well- it was always better, but the Jersey corn may have tasted so good bc we were so far away from our Southern food!
Loved the video! Looks delicious and your niece sounds like me. I need to know ahead of time what is for dinner so I can prepare myself. 😂 I’m sure anything you cook would be amazing but how sweet of you to cook all her favorites when she visits. She is blessed to have such a thoughtful aunt.
MMMM MMMMM good! Reminds me of my beloved mom and grandmother! 😋😋
Love everything you do Paula!
I love pole beans, but they are raised around here either. I think next year I am going to plant me a small garden so I can cook my mama a pot. She is 88 and talks about wanting some pole beans.❤❤❤
I loved pole beans! You are right, can never can find them anymore!
We cant wait till you get here in Myrtle Beach. 😀 We love you Paula!
I only grow pole beans in my garden because I'm terrified of snakes. Snakes like to sleep in the shade of bush beans.
You are my favorite Paula! Love you! ❤️
Paula I'm here visiting myrtle Beach. we went to your restaurant last night and the wait time for a table was 1 hour so we didn't get to eat. I did go in and shop i got the herb stripper and air fryer cookbook.
You should do a video on the traditional southern New Years meal. It’s my favorite meal of the year!
you are a AWESOME Cook PAULA
I am so glad you made these! I never knew how. I am going to try this soon and experiment. Hopefully I can do it and make them for Thanksgiving!
I love Paula she cracks me up when I watch her and her food always looks delicious ❤
The SkyFly Over America ride at The Island is INCREDIBLE. Definitely do it! Would love to meet y'all and cover you on our Smoky Mt. RUclips Channel
When I buy Green Beans and boil them I then put into a frying pan and add butter or a bit of bacon grease and add Onion & Garlic & fry them. Oh so delicious!

Hi Paula and Eddy...Paula I'm so glad you're fixing my favorite vegetable and I cook mine the exact same way except I use beef bouillon where you used chicken. I just bought A mess(batch) of green beans and for the first time ever they were so tough even though I cooked them for several hours. Oh well ill eat them anyway. ha ha ha God Bless you LuvYa! Bye from NE Ohio
Hi Paula I just love you!!! I have been a fan since Paula's Home Cooking!!! I wish I could just hang out with you in your beautiful kitchen and cook with you!!❤❤❤
Best cooking in the world is southern style
Good country cooking is a chore❤
Salted pork, fatback or streak of lean whatever you call it is great to season if you don’t have hog jawl.
I'm going to try this recipe 😋
I was snapping beans and clicked on this video. Felt like I was hanging out with a good friend. So many love you Paula! God bless you!!
I will try these tomorrow. This is how I remember my family preparing them but now it’s my turn to learn to cook them. So happy you shared this recipe
My friend from Tennessee taught me how to cook southern green beans .She used bacon. Fried the bacon .Took put the bacon and just a small amount of water
Cooked them until soft
Added potatoes .
I used to live in Sevierville😢 My youngest daughter and her family live in Seymour. I really wish we were still there. I know where I would be trying to get reservations! Love everything about The Island🥰‼️
