      GET SWOLE! And by that I mean once it is fitted, never gain or lose any weight, because resizing sucks.

      Also... going for spoon type lower legs?

    • @PatchBOTS
      @PatchBOTS  5 лет назад +1

      @@Darqueling Hah yeah. My weight does tend to fluctuate a lot depending on my current state of laziness/training. I'm coming down off a fat time, so I'm hoping to stay right in the middle while I size everything, so at least it will be sized to "middle me." yes, spoon style lower legs.

    This is soo much better than most build videos I have seen out there. Thank you for providing the details you did in this and not just glossing over some of the important points. The fact you provide files is greatly appreciated as well. this has helped inspire me to get me to go back and try to put my imperial surplus armor together again.

    Nice job Patrick (This is Elly from the Chopper Builders and through FB helping me with L337)! Killing it with the clone! I built my first one 12 years ago, and you're making me want to do another one.
    Another tip on the weathering - you can use acrylic paint and windex to add weathering. If you add too much, just use fresh windex to take it off.
    Also, Goop on the tacky side of the velcro works wonders. Let it dry overnight. My biker scout has the velcro on it from 11 years ago.

    It's pretty funny how you go through a lot of trouble to weather the armor, only to then add foam specifically to avoid natural paint scraping between parts. Anyway, great video--it's always a delight to see your process.

      Glad you asked. I mentioned it when I was recording but had an audio issue and it got cut off. This particular one is from extremeracing.co.uk. Its very warm. I hear "clothears" is the best, but they are hard to get a hold of and a bit more expensive. I'm waiting to get on their list.

    Those came out very well. Would be interested to know what you think of the mobility once you have the chest and back done as well. Also, does the sub assembly for the handplate scrape the back of your hand? Very cool to see how to incorporate 3D printing into building this.

    • @PatchBOTS
      @PatchBOTS  5 лет назад

      No back of hand issues, i rounded the edge a little just to be sure, but there's enough room in the glove that there is no real scrape. . Yeah i'm sure my mobility will go down as I add more pieces, but, was worried about being "armor bound" and nto being able to get my helmet on with all the arm stuff, glad that's not the case.

    • @Darqueling
      @Darqueling 5 лет назад

      Sorry to be the bearer of bad news... but being a "realistic kit" movement is not fantastic. But that is why we have handlers and troop in groups. I cannot take off or put on my helmets by myself, atleast without quite a bit of pain.

    Because I'm planning on making commander thorn with a fully functioning light up CG staff For my first trip to star wars con in florida.
    Also I love your work, and your tips on wiring and weathering, it really helps out.

    • @PatchBOTS
      @PatchBOTS  5 лет назад

      Helmet: No. They are usually just one size. But certain vendors just naturally have larger or smaller ones than others. I think the EVO3/Sanotized hemlet is a bit larger than others, so if you have a big noggin' definitely look towards them. As far as armor, again mostly one size fits all, but Imperial Surplus does have a "tall" and "short" option which I *think* only affects the legs. The cuttoff is 5'10" i think, so if you're 5'10" or under get the short version, taller get the tall version. There is a lot of trimming and fitting involved anyway, so you'll really be 'tailoring' it yourself.
