- Part 16 of my DIY Star Wars Clone Commander Bow Build. The last piece of the main clone armor is the BELT. It's pretty complicated, and I don't help myself at all by trying to make this thing super customized and crazy! Enjoy!

My goal with this project is to build a screen accurate Star Wars Clone Trooper costume. There is a costuming group called the 501st Legion which I am hoping to join to better showcase some of my droid projects. The club has strict costuming guidelines which can be found in their Costume Reference Library. I’m going to use that C.R.L. as a guide along with watching build logs of other clone trooper builders to hopefully be inducted into the 501st Legion.
Is this cosplay? Yes, I guess technically it is. I’ve never considered myself much of the cosplay type but as an art major and someone who has always had a hand in something artistic, the idea of building and painting a costume that I can wear sounds like a project that is right up my alley.
Why clones? Why Commander Bow? Simple. He looks the coolest. I don’t see myself as one of those guys who is going to be building 100 different Star Wars costumes, in fact the idea had NEVER occurred to me until I saw a Facebook image of a 501st Legion member as a Phase 2 clone trooper. I was like “Damn, that’s pretty cool.” Funnily enough, the 501st Legion is named after the exact group of clone troopers that I will be building into….the 501st Legion.
In Star Wars canon, the 501st Legion is the battalion of clone troopers who serve directly under Jedi General Anakin Skywalker and later Lord Vader. All battalions of clone troopers are denoted by color, and the 501st color is blue. You can see them all in Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith storming the jedi temple after order 66.
The blue color of the 501st clone troopers is my favorite look of clone trooper, so it was pretty obvious I was going with them, then once I saw Commander Bow’s macrobinoculars I was sold!
Stay tuned as this series progresses and I work towards being an official member of the 501st Legion!
From Wookiepedia:
"Bow" was the nickname of a clone stormtrooper who served as a commander within the Galactic Empire's 501st Legion. A loyal and obedient soldier, he rose to his rank by around the time of Order 66, which Emperor Palpatine used to brand all Jedi as traitors to the Empire and initiate the galaxy-wide Jedi Purge. One month into the purge, Bow was part of a 501st stormtrooper squad that Clone Commander Appo took to Kessel. There, Bow and his fellow troopers rescued the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader from a batch of Jedi Knights who had survived Order 66. Bow and his comrades gunned down Jedi Masters Jastus Farr, Tsui Choi, and Roblio Darté, executing them in mid-battle with Vader. Following the incident, Bow personally filed reports on several of the Jedi victims, and he continued to serve in the 501st after Appo's death at the Battle of Kashyyyk. Наука
I've never seen clone armour this amazing jesus
I didn’t know Kim jong un watched Star Wars
you know its gonna be a good day when you see that patchbots notification pop up
you know it's a good day when this comment pops up on your video. thanks! means a lot!
@@PatchBOTS thanks for making such great content! You really inspired me to 3d-model more and get more into engineering, also will you be making more videos on chopper again?
@@xente9918 I defintely will. Just not sure when. Finishing this clone was my main priority, and that's coming to close now, so some doors are opening. Chopper is pretty tricky and I hit a huge road block with the third wheel that kind of ate through my budget real quickly so I needed to put it down for a bit. I'll be getting back there soon enough.
I cannot even begin to fathom how awesome the 501st Airborne Trooper will look!!
Removable Belt Boxes! This was an idea I had since the get go and if I'm being totally honest wasn't super confident in the idea of the magnetic posts, but it works so well! Doing this 3D print-a-geering leads to a lot of fails, but I'm so glad this one worked out. I think this can open a lot of doors to being able to carry more useful stuff on troops!
Build is looking great Patrick. Will you be adding the belt boxes and posts to your GitHub link. Keep up the great work and look forward to the complete build.
awesome!
It’s great to see the image of the phase 1 grunt as I have a custom helmet like that and wondered what it would look like with full cosplay!
This is awesome man!!! Love seeing the updates. You look like a real 501st trooper now.
Thanks!
Great ideas ! Im also designing my boxes to be practical, except the small ones.
wow, really really awesome work on the belt there, and the idea with the business card holder... genious
Thanks! Been sitting on that idea for awhile, glad it actually works!
Looks amazing, cant wait to one day troop with you. Highly recommend a way to store your wallet (cash+card) & phone in a box. That is one thing I cannot do and at Cons it would be way better than not having them.
Yeah man, you know I'm a big fan of your build too. It'd be nice to see our 501st's together.
Love your vids man, they've been really helpful on projects in general.
Keep it up.
Great to hear!
Hahahaa Patrick. Nothing the easy way for you.. looks amazing buddy
I know, haha. Sometimes I stop and think, "why am I even doing this?"
AMAZING!!!
Great video as always! I really love theme. You have inspired me to do a Clonetrooper armor myselfe and thanks to your videos I think I can complete it by copying some of your building methodes... Thanks a lot and looking forwart to see more.
You're welcome to copy anything that helps your build! We're all in this together and I'm glad if my build can help push yours further!
id make working removabul storage boxes so i can store my stuff in them
yeah, my original plan was have them hold batteries for my various electronics. But when account for the walls needed/the mounting structures needed and the belt indentation it doesn't leave a whole lot of room for anything really. If I was a clone accountant I may be able to store some pencils in there but not much else.
Me again! Asking questions because I'm planning to build my armor. And well, your videos are pure gold.
The 3D files, as they are, will they fit perfectly on the Sanotized Creations belt? Specifically speaking of the belt boxes.
I dont understand why you have so little subcriptions. I love your videos!
Greetings from Germany
I know, right? haha. Thanks
+PatchBOTS Hi do you take custom orders? Like building a clone armour? Thanks
Sorry I don't. Barely enough time to work on my own!
@@PatchBOTS I understand thank you! And you did an amazing job on your armour
You say magnetic post, but all I see are restraining bolts!
Where can i find the belt boxes 3d model?
Hey PatchBOTS, I’m currently building a Commander Appo clone, and am currently working on that back plate that you added circuitry into. Did you have any kind of issue with that when your costume was inspected?
I keep looking at the CRLs and there really isn’t much detail there on what is and isn’t acceptable.. but all of the reference photos from the CRLs are different from one another
@@CommandrAppo Yeah luckily those circuitry bits were in my CRL, so it was definitely ok. That type of question is best to ask your Garrison leaders. They are ultimately going to be the ones approving you so you should ask them before you do anything that may have to be undone.
Hey Patchbots. I absolutely love your videos, I've been watching since fitting the helmet! Your build is an amazing build and Commander Bow has never looked better. I just wanted to point out. What happened to the Pauldron and the Chest boxes? Are those not going to be added? Great build though. I've recently started a 327th Star Corps build myself.
Those are coming! I realize the intro to this video is a little misleading with the "final piece" line, I should have worded that better. This build has 4 more sections coming; the thermal detonators, the pauldron, the kama and the holsters/pistols. So in the end Bow will look exactly like the CRL!
@@PatchBOTS I hope you don't mind me asking, how much do you think you spent overall on this costume so far? I know that clones require a lot of money.
Dear Mr. Patchbots, I Know I am late to The Party, but I would still Like to ask how thick The plates of The Kit are.
Hi, The abs sheets start at 2mm. But after the vac forming the thickness is pretty fluid. But roughly 2 mm
@@PatchBOTS Thank You so much!
I already ordered my Kit Just because of your Videos 😅
@@Nelpris awesome!
@@PatchBOTS I am starting to think I overestimated my abilities...
But I'll try my best :D
