  • Hey Robot Fans! This video is all about the DC-15 blaster. I purchased a great great great WoodChuck DC-15 blaster rifle from Charles Bowman, aka, Woodchuck. Out of the box this gun is just fantastic, but, what kind of robotics/cosplay builder would I be if I didn't do a ton of unnecessary work on it?
    The key components of this build are the light at the end of the barrel, the audio circuit which uses an Adafuit sound Trigger, a 12v amplifier and a TRANSDUCER instead of a speaker. In addition to this, I made my first ever custom PCB using Eagle CAD software and PCBWay, very exciting!
    In addition to the electronics I did some mechanic work here with the shoulder stock making it swivel and stop fully in its two positions.
    Check out this video and more of my Clone Commander Bow video series here on my channel.

    Very nice! After I finish up my TK, I'm planning on building a 7th Legion clone trooper with a kit from KW and a blaster from Woodchuck!

      I know it's a little Wayne this videos pretty old now but couldn't you have put a switch for you could switch between automatic and single shot on the blaster

    that is so cool but what i'm going to do is take insparation on what you did to your blaster and make a compleatly 3d printed one but it will have some weight on it as i want it to feel as if it were real it going to be so cool.

    Idk if someone said this already but the blaster is based off a real firearm called the Sterling SMG if you Wana see how the stock is used on the actual firearm. Stellar job on this blaster, I live it.

    tell us more about the pcb you made. its function and how you would like to revisit past products with it.

    • @PatchBOTS
      @PatchBOTS  6 лет назад +1

      (Deleted my previous comment to answer the question a little better). The board takes in 12v power. The funciton of the board is split into two parts. Single shot (activated by the button trigger) and Multi-Shot (activated by the limit switch trigger). On the single shot side, when the button is pushed it sends a ground signal to the audio trigger and completes the circuit to the LED. Same deal on the Multi-shot side but instead of simply completing the circuit to the LED, it runs the signal through a 555 timer to get a blinking effect. I can adjust the duty cycle of the 555 timer (and thus the output in the LED) with a variable resistor to match the sound pulses with light pulses.
      This particular board isn't going to help with past project, but the idea of making my own PCBs for my builds will. making a board makes the connections between components a lot cleaner which is always my goal. Also, as I build my assembly skills I can start moving to surface mounted components instead of through hole components and make my boards smaller and smaller and cleaner and cleaner. This could mean adding a lot more unnecessary electronics to things!!!

    Interesting build! So it was a transducer, not a lathed part. I wonder how many of the 501st will be squirming as you tear apart the DC-15...

    Technically, that is the DC-15A blaster rifle. The DC-15 is the long one.

    • @PatchBOTS
      @PatchBOTS  6 лет назад

      I don't want to accuse you of being misinformed, but the Long one is the DC-15A. This is the DC-15 S (according to Wookieepedia). I feel confident just saying DC-15 Shorty

    • @GREENdragon1224
      @GREENdragon1224 6 лет назад

      PatchBOTS we're actually both right. In Canon, it is the DC-15A, but in Legends it's the DC-15S, which is ridiculous

    Do you think i could do this too just with a Dc 15 a from Woodchuck

    • @PatchBOTS
      @PatchBOTS  6 лет назад

      That's the long rifle, right? I can't be 100% sure the parts fit, because I don't have one of those on hand. Not sure of your level of 3D software knowledge, but as afar as the trigger/handle, you can most likely modify that as needed to fit. The barrels are different I would assume, but, I can help with any questions if you had any along hte way.

      PatchBOTS that would be great.

  • @craftingnerf2593

    Why don’t you code the Arduino to detect how long the trigger is pulled and that determines the type of shooting

    • @PatchBOTS
      @PatchBOTS  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah, totally! That was the original plan but thought it might be a bit overkill + I was genuinely concerned about space inside the chamber. With the new PCB and some 'clever' wire routing I think i could fit it inside the handle now, but I'm actually quite content with the "low tech" way. All the parts are posted though, if you ever decide to try that out I'd love to see your results!

      Checked out your channel, how old are you? If you're already thinking about arduinos and functionality and circuits you're on a good track! Keep it up!

    • @craftingnerf2593
      @craftingnerf2593 6 лет назад

      I am almost done elementary school and I made pong in Turing but I am having trouble with finding out to code in Arduino because I am used to Turing coding software. 😕 but I can do simple circuits using the ground and the 5 volts on the Arduino board. And every Arduino code explanation video that I watched I barely understood anything so I can only modify a tiny bit of code.

    • @PatchBOTS
      @PatchBOTS  6 лет назад +1

      I didn't even know what an Arduino was until I was 29 years old. You've got some pretty awesome technology at your fingertips and internet of resources to pull from, you'll do great things, I'm sure!

  • @blammers

    I don’t know why you didn’t just print the whole thing

    • @PatchBOTS
      @PatchBOTS  6 лет назад

      Yeah, I've been waiting for this comment, haha. I definitely didn't start out to print as much as I did, and by the end I was even thinking "should I just make this a 3D printed gun?" I wanted to keep it as a hybrid woodchuck for a few reasons. 1) I wanted to keep this for reference for anyone who wants to mod their gun. And since you dont NEED to do all the mods, you can just pick certain parts 2) In the end I didn't need to reprint the barrel. I didn't really know that until I was too far into the process, but, you can keep the woodchuck barrel and just mod the part that connects the main body to the barrel. I think in my head this was the original intention and then i got too far ahead of myself. Thanks for commenting!

    very nice build, love your vids but please stop cutting in you saying greeblees since you are able to pronounce the word now and it is very annoying and I believe many fans share my opinion, no offence by the way.
