I purchased my adjustable fume extractor on a Polish website and so far, I wasn't able to find the same one outside of Poland. I was able to find similar ones, although these are not the same product. But I hope it will be a good place to start:

I love your work and tutorials. You are my inspiration and I am taking jewellery workshops classes and buying my tools. I am learning by myself. Thank ❤😊
That was so informative! Thank you for sharing your knowledge
My pleasure! It means a lot to me that you enjoyed it, thank you ❤️
Great video 😍 Thank you 🙏🏻
Happy you enjoyed it! Thank you 💖😊
Great tips, thank you! Especially liked the fan with the arm, great for small spaces!
oh yes, this one is perfect! Thank you so much for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Thank you for this video :) love it! I have one question tho - do you have some sort of a dust collector? Im thinking of making one myself but im trying to figure out how strong it should be… anyways, a dust collecting system is really important because metal dust can be really small and easily fly around the studio - even your whole apartment if your studio is a part of it… again, thanks for the video and stay safe ❤
Hiya Basia,
Just re-watched it again. The tube, its other name, is a duct, or ducting.
I was on the Argentium Guild web page in their shop, and they use the brush/pen you use for Platinol for the flux they recommend. Yep, the forehead-slaping time it's so easy to do, just not on hot metal and melt the brush. Thank you, Argentium Guild, for such a simple but clever idea.
For the extractor, a HEPA filter is the best, but your easy experiment to test the efficiency was great. Mine looks very similar and has a carbon filter.
Dare I say, stay safe, Steve xx
Thank You!!!
You're very welcome ✨🙏
This is such a helpful video, thank you! Was just wondering what cartridge filter I need for the mask as overwhelmed by the choices? Thank you 😊
Good day
It's really inspiring to see each of your videos once again thanks for sharing your time with us!!! Greetings from Mexico
My pleasure! I'm so happy to have you here, glad you enjoyed the video! Thank you for watching :))
Vital especially if you do strained glass soldering work. I had fans to move the fumes away
All fluxes contain nasty stuff in their fumes, so all soldering needs extraction/filtering.
Hi dear, thank you so much for making this video. I am wondering which type of filter you would recommend for your half face mask. I would like to use it for soldering and for polishing brass and silver jewelry. Thank you in advance❤
I love your adjustable soldering fume extractor could you post the Polish Website by any chance? If not I understand thanks ahead of time!😘
Hi, your video is very helpful. Thanks to you, I bought a smoking absorber device well. May I know the name of the second safety goggles? My goggles are quite small for me, so I will buy a new one. I live in Europe, too.
OMG! It didn't even occur to me that I might be breathing metal dust through my nose and mouth too.
Definitely wearing a mask from now on when I am sawing metal, thank you so much.
Oh, you definitely are! Please do protect yourself and your health and wear a mask ❤ Thank you for watching and I'm glad this video helped you! ❤
For sawing one could also use an N95 mask.
Love the new video 'style'!
I'm so happy to hear that! Thank you so much 😄 It's been a gradual change, so I no longer can put my finger on what exactly changed, what would you say makes the new style of my video? I'm asking, so that I can make sure to keep it up! :)) Thank you ❤
@@TheArtOfMetalsmithing I think the lighting mostly, it gives it a very professional studio like feel. And thinking deeper into it, I'd say maybe the way your sitting farther from the camera is more like the interview style professional videography types I've seen? If that makes sense and for all I know you haven't even changed how close or far from the camera you are but its the 2nd thing i can think of right off the top of my head
@@unboundbytiffany Thanks so so much for this! 😍 Noted and noted! I totally agree with these and yes, I was definitely working on improving the light, the sound and better framing. I still have room for improvements, But I'm glad that these changes are already noticable and made your watching experience better! :) I hope that my future video wiss be even better and easier to watch :) Thank you!
@@TheArtOfMetalsmithing this was awesome and well done already my dear :) loved it!
Hiya Lady Stardust,
Another great video; thank you for it. The lighting and your camera placement have made a difference; I like the change.
Great content Basia; oh, you got a fire extinguisher; I fancy that, hehehe. Wonderful to see you have the extractor. They make a difference to your work area; no smoke in your way is good. The finger coats are perfect when you can't wear them or don't want gloves. The PPE speak for itself; always good to protect yourself.
Have you seen the latest podcast from Jewellery Acadamy with Jessica Rose? She has the guy who invented Argentium, I always thought it was a German invention, but he's an Englishman and was at the University of Middlesex when he did it. He explained a lot about the metal, and I learned a lot more; I hope he does a video on fusing, well, using it, with practical demonstrations. I've asked in the comments and if enough of us do that,???
Stay safe, Steve xx
Hi Steve! I think that I finally figured out a little with the lighting and camera placement and framing, hopefully next videos will improve even more :)
Yes! I finally got a fire extinguisher! Shame I wasn't able to take with me the one you got me in Bristol. But now I have one again :))
Yes! Good PPE is very important and I'm most happy about that extractor. It makes a huge difference!
I haven't seen it yet, but I have to check it out! Such an exciting guest and it must be very interesting to learn all about it from him :) Thanks for the recommendation!
All the best xx
@@TheArtOfMetalsmithingyou are welcome dear lady. I've just got some Argentium wire and sheet to make some hypo-allogenic earrings for someone who normally only wears 9ct because of her ears going red and then itching like mad. She much prefers the look of silver. The bezel wire will be fine silver so should not be a problem.
I'm glad I have the time to watch so much YT so can recommend things I see that I believe might help you.
I have one of the shorter fume extractors, and I accidentally burned the filter while soldering 😰 the higher position of the arm-mounted one looks much better. Thanks for the tips!
I did wonder if that might happen!
Me too! Knowing that this can happen know, perhaps other models would be better. They cost a bit more, but it's a good investment
Could you please let me know where you got the second extractor from, the one with the clip? I've tried finding it online but am having no luck...
Where did you get right size miller roller, I need so badly for my studio are small, where did you get? Thank you
I have been doing a little work with wood….some larger items and jewellery as well. There are some items there that might help here. When you carve wood with knives and micro chisels - there are leather finger protectors worn. I was wondering if they might have more protection for the flex shaft when using burrs? They’re easy to make.
Also when you are just doing light work with wood and don’t want to get kitted up in your respirator there are actually N95 soft fabric masks (often with Velcro fastening at back or strap) and these are a little better fitting than the light surgical mask you had. Just wondering if that would help you (or anyone?).
@The art of Metal smithing - I think you have a scammer here! 🧡
yeah, been blocking their accounts, but they keep coming... I'm glad you know it's a scammer ❤
I always have multiple glasses on also ,loops lens, sunglasses lol
Hi Basia, thanks for the helpful video. What type of fire extinguisher did you get? I don't know whether to go for water, water with additives, powder etc. Thanks xx
Thant's a good question! Mine is powder (same as you would use in a car) :)
@@TheArtOfMetalsmithingpowder is a very good one for just about every type of fire you might find in your studio, if not every type.
Hi! Can you add the link to the polish fume extractor anyway please?
Great video. What is the make of the fume extractor that you like best?
It was no-name product, not by a particular brand. I found it searching for "soldering fume extractor" online and I ordered this one off of a Polish website, similar to amazon. I'll check if I can find similar and will link it under the video
Thank you 😊
@@ashleybarton4385 so, unfortunately I wasn't able to find that same model outside of Poland. But I linked some similar products in the description box and it looks like the one with legs is better than what I purchased
Great. That’s very helpful! I love your bench by the way. Did you buy it as a jewellers bench or convert a table/desk?
@@ashleybarton4385it is a wonderful jeweller's bench by Durston in the UK, but I believe Rio Grande sells them or similar. Basia did a video on un-boxing it and another showing us around it. I got the next smaller one down but I would have loved this one. Steve...
Do you have a link to the fan you liked?
I'm afraid not, because I purchased it on a Polish website. But I saw this model online, so I think it should be quite easy to find. It's the one with an adjustable arm for mounting.
Silver tube is called a vent duct.
Thanks! :)
Good advice but I can't understand why you have curtains behind your bench, close to where you solder. I think they are a fire hazard.
That is an excellent question 😆😄 I need to remove it, thank you for remiding me!! ❤🙏
@@TheArtOfMetalsmithing you would have to wave your torch around a bit, well okay point at the curtain quite close. IE lean across the bench to get the flame near enough. Tie-backs should work if you are that worried, but then you have a way of dealing with any fire, yep through your tea on it, a good use for tea, just never waste coffee like that, even de-caffeinated. xx
😎🤓🧯you help so much with building supply lists! Great video Basia 🤩
I'm very happy to hear that, Alicia! 😍 I want you all to be safe and hopefully get these things mucha earlier than I did! I waited too long to get that fume extractor and fire extinguisher. Thank you so much for watching :)
