I love almost everything about everything they do, but the weird thing they did with singing offbeat was tough to enjoy. I kept feeling relieved every time they got to the chorus and things synced up again. 🤷🏼♀️
I'm 65, so when I see a vid of a group today covering Roberta Flack....well, I've got serious doubts. IMO, it's not possible to cover Roberta. What I found out, was they had no intention to! They kept the original feeling of the song, while giving it a modern twist that fit so well, that my eyes began to water a bit around minute 1:50.
I'd be honored if some fans of the Pomplamoose organic style of covers would take a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of VIRTUAL INSANITY by Jamiroquai and WALKING IN MEMPHIS by Marc Cohn on my YT channel in tribute to a couple of great 90s standards. Live acoustic with no autotune or digital editing. Thanks and peace out.
I fully agree. The ;level of talent this group has is amazing. The arrangements are very throw back with a twist. This guy is an amazing arranger and musician.
Roberta's version is my childhood so I'm inclined to view Roberta Flack's version as "the definite one." but if I hadn't grown up with it, I'd say this one is better. wonderful harmonics, wonderful contemporary feel to it, while still respecting the mood of the original song.... Well done, Pamplemousse!
My Late Dad's FAVORITE SONG.....I have such warn memories of watching him sing this on the car radio as he drove and I looked at him in the rear view mirror....Thank You Nataly & Jack for The Love Tears and Smiles....Cheers from Ohio
Each instrument and voice is so distinct. While as a whole, the sum of each part carries the emotion of the song so beautifully. Wonderful arrangement of each instrument and such amazing talent behind each one, Jack. AND, Nataly--god--your vocal arrangement---so Soft---so Smooth---so Stunning-.
I love how y'all surround yourselves with the most brilliant talented musicians and vocalists that compliment each other. There's no one single lead just fantastic collaboration and smooth fit. Everyone always looks like they're just having the best time and we get to come along. Awesome
I've been following your music for about 7 years now or so, And you have never once disappointed me. Every single song I've listened to of yours has been on the level of perfection which have attained- such as Nat King Cole, Matt Monro, The Beatles, and Rainbow. I love you guys, and I look forward every single one of your endeavors. Your music has changed my outlook on life and love.
Love the history of this song! Wendy Libemann heard Don McLeon singing “Empty Chairs” and shewrote “Killing me Softly”. Roberta Flack heard Wendy’s folksong and made her own twist and added the “Whooahs” and “LaLaLas”. The Fugees heard Robert Flack’s version and made their own hip hop type version! It’s as if “Empty Chairs” has a child song, which had itself a child song, etc etc! Thank you Don McLeon and Wendy Libemann for starting it all!!
I'm so glad I found your video. This is one of my mom's favorite English songs. She lives far far away from me and I'm worried sick about her. Thank you.
Wow....stunning version. Not sure what words are appropriate to describe what I just heard.....fresh, crisp, sultry, funky. The harmony of the ladies voices is .......perfect.
So bloody courageous to tackle a track like this - all style, love the vocals and harmonies. Backing is difficult for me to relax into for having the original so entrenched but I'm sure if I listen several times I will be saying "Yeah!"
some songs beg other musicians not to cover. this is one of them. so my expectations were low. but over and over everything about this phenomenal cover made me beam.

As I recollect, this song was released in about the time that Muskrat Love had radio airplay too. Thanks to both Roberta Flack first, and now Nataly Dawn and band for this great cover. Killing us softly was much better then amorous-rodents, I must say.
Love you guys, I've been sub'd for years and even now I still can't get enough Pomplamoose. Keep up the fantastic work! I'm eager to hear more from you!
Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me softly with his song I heard he sang a good song, I heard he had a style And so I came to see him, to listen for a while And there he was, this young boy, a stranger to my eyes Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me softly with his song I felt all flushed with fever, embarrassed by the crowd I felt he'd found my letters and read each one out loud I prayed that he would finish, but he just kept right on Strumming my pain with his fingers Singing my life with his words Killing me softly with his song Killing me softly with his song Telling my whole life with his words Killing me softly with his song
Man! ...this Mix! The Space on that Guitar! *THE LEFT CHANNEL IN GENERAL!?* I remember watching you guys like 10 years ago or something. Did you loose a bunch of Subs? How are you not in the millions?! Well done just the same!
Jack... GREAT mix buddy! I loved the drums all left in the verses idea. Creative! Nataly... You sound great! That mic is really nice on your voice. Band and other singers... ummmm you all rip! Love it.
I freaking love making music with my bass, guitar and ukulele,.. but you all make me never want to touch any of them again, because I am pretty sure I will never make music like you guys do! Seriously,.... f'n amazing!
I still remember when Lori Lieberman's version came out (before Roberta Flack's) back in 1972 (or 73). I was driving home on Santa Monica Blvd and had to pull over to write down the title and artist to find out how to get it. But it vanished shortly after and only resurfaced when Roberta's version hit the radio stations. (Crazy music business!)
I feel like an idiot even posting a comment after the other kind (and more coherent) words that have been typed below. But, wow. amazing. I haven't heard harmony like that in contemporary music much lately. Guys/Gals you're on fire.
What a super cool arrangement. This is first time I've heard your version and must say I like this better than the original. Kind of has a 70's disco vibe beat to it and love the way you've added to the vocal variety, especially taking the word "song" by way of going up and down with it. Very unique & such a cool arrangement. "SEPTEMBER" has been one of my all time favorites but this one may replace it. Great job guys.
bass player is a rock star, he's completely vibin out!
Was about to say that. He's having a blast. He be ballin'.
He's better than a rockstar, dude can do anything if he wanted to.
I love almost everything about everything they do, but the weird thing they did with singing offbeat was tough to enjoy. I kept feeling relieved every time they got to the chorus and things synced up again. 🤷🏼♀️
Yes I love it. Always vibing! He is now known as the pigeon bassist !! ;-)
felling the vibe music.
What's his name?
This is Pomplamoose's moment in time, and we're all basking in it.
I'm 65, so when I see a vid of a group today covering Roberta Flack....well, I've got serious doubts. IMO, it's not possible to cover Roberta. What I found out, was they had no intention to! UtzChips2009, I had the same initial thoughts...and the same conclusion!
I fully agree. The ;level of talent this group has is amazing. The arrangements are very throw back with a twist. This guy is an amazing arranger and musician.
Of course, Roberta Flack was covering Lori Lieberman. Let's give credit where due.
Having grown up listening to Roberta Flack’s version of this song, it took me a minute to get “adjusted” to the new one. This is just wonderful.
My Late Dad's FAVORITE SONG.....I have such warn memories of watching him sing this on the car radio as he drove and I looked at him in the rear view mirror....Thank You Nataly & Jack for The Love Tears and Smiles....Cheers from Ohio

This is what I think everytime I listen to one of their tracks! Outstanding
I love how y'all surround yourselves with the most brilliant talented musicians and vocalists that compliment each other. There's no one single lead just fantastic collaboration and smooth fit. Everyone always looks like they're just having the best time and we get to come along. Awesome
The bass popps is amazingly transcendentaly tight
You got the words that work

Спасибо, что вы есть.)) Ребята, вы такие классные! Слежу за вами ещё с Mr. Sandman. Такие замечательные голоса и аранжировка.

the return of the headbang bassist, the great *Sam Wilkes* !!!!! Great performance of all.
great adaptation. Awesome!
Music by one of the most talented contemporary composers: CHARLES FOX. Great cover!
Thanks for reminding me that magic still exists, Pomplamoose. Even if only for a few moments a time.
Oh this wonderful note on synth at 2:11.
I'm glad you're actively posting again :) I love and missed your style
Back in 1996 I was in drivers ed learning to drive with the Fugees version playing this on the radio. Getting cool vibes! Love you guys!

You guys are killing me not so softly with your amazing talent.

The tight harmony at the beginning gave me chills!
Beautiful! Love the three part harmony and the upbeat tempo. One of my favorite songs to play on solo piano.
thanks...gives me some faith in humanity in these trying times.
Loving the bass on this one

A beautiful song, sung by a beautiful voice. A haunting cover
I like to imagine Stephen Colbert stumbling upon this song on the internet and then asking Pomplamoose to come on his show and perform it.

some songs beg other musicians not to cover. this is one of them. so my expectations were low. but over and over everything about this phenomenal cover made me beam.
... 50 seconds in Jack slides in the vocals ... then perfection starts and it doesn’t stop.
I don't have enough thumbs for the proper amount of upping this deserves. Thank you again!

Se ganaron un 10. Hermosa versión con sus voces e instrumentación.
Great harmony, and Nat's got that breathy sensuality that this song needs. Love it.
Lovely quality to your voice. Innocent yet so rich. And a gorgeous style.
As I recollect, this song was released in about the time that Muskrat Love had radio airplay too. Thanks to both Roberta Flack first, and now Nataly Dawn and band for this great cover. Killing us softly was much better then amorous-rodents, I must say.

Adorable voices and band is awesome!!!!!
Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
I heard he sang a good song, I heard he had a style
And so I came to see him, to listen for a while
And there he was, this young boy, a stranger to my eyes
Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
I felt all flushed with fever, embarrassed by the crowd
I felt he'd found my letters and read each one out loud
I prayed that he would finish, but he just kept right on
Strumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life with his words
Killing me softly with his song
Those celestial tooooneesss.

What a super cool arrangement. This is first time I've heard your version and must say I like this better than the original.
