I am an old man, a widower to boot, who lives alone in a cabin on a mountain in Colorado, and music is my entire life, whether listening alone at home or dancing in town. A few months ago I belatedly discovered Radiohead's "Creep," and it immediately took me over, though nowhere close to my usual genre loves of blues, funk-jazz, classic rock, etc. It's the combo of powerful, meaning lyrics and repetitive but magical chord changes. Thanks to that obsession I found Scary Pockets with India's version ... and now I am totally obsessed with this group, even though many of the songs I had paid little attention to in their originals. It is what you bring to the songs that "kills me funkily." I will sign up with Patreon and can't thank you enough. Rotating singers keeps things fresh, though India gets my double attention.
Hmm control is the wrong word I think. There's more than a few "dodgy" notes in this song alone, never mind all the other covers she's done. Don't get me wrong, she's a fantastic singer, but control ain't her thang. She can move between notes remarkably quickly, but that's not the same as control.
I keep coming back to this video for the bass player, then quickly remember how amazing the vocals are. The whole band is tight as hell in this recording.
C'est la plus belle version de killing me sofly que j'ai écouté jusqu'a maintenant. Elle l'interprète de façon magistrale. Elle habite la chanson. Elle l'a vit. Elle est en transe. Excellent!!!
So much joy, listening to a song by Roberta Flack (my youth) performed by SCARYPOCKETS and India Carney decades later. really love your interpretation!
Same here... I was binge watching these guys and suddenly you feel your heart being ripped out, getting it tightly wrapped in a hug of suffocating velvet and shoved back into your chest again... I teared up! Didn't expect that at all...
Incredibly well done. India's rendition of Creep is beyond the pale. Such a wonderful voice and crowd. And, of course, Sam Wilkes' footwear never disappoints.
i'm serious... by the start of the 2nd verse this girl had literally moved me to tears. she really owned the story behind this song... and she's beautiful too!
This is what happens when musicians think more about their skill than serving the song. This song is about a woman’s internal experience of being overwhelmed by the intimacy of connecting to a song, a performer, in public. It’s supposed to be uncomfortably bare and revealing. For more context, a struggling woman songwriter wrote this in the early 70s, worried and frustrated about not being taken seriously, never finding success. The reason the Roberta Flack and Fugees covers work is because they spotlight the experience of the woman having a meltdown in the crowd. Yip Harbgurg said “Words make you think thoughts, music makes you feel a feeling, but a song makes you feel a thought.” Respectfully, all I’m feeling watching this, is overwhelmed by the lack of space and overall one note dynamics.
It's really weird that artists make no mention of Lori Lieberman..... it's her song. It's weird that they do covers and mention Roberta and The Fugees...Imagine giving credit to people covering a song and not the original singer. Weird.
Pockets fans! This weekend we recorded four more tunes to funkify your life over the next month. If I Ain't Got You, Killing Me Softly, Always Be My Baby, and Bye Bye Bye. Those are all coming out over the next month, so GET PUMPED!

I love Killing Me Softly by the Fugees so much that I haven't found a single cover of it that gives me the same feeling... until now. I'm in love 😍 this is AMAZING!
How can you say that openly? I mean it's one of the most powerful songs who's ever been written in the music History... But it's like hopefully scary pockets save your ears, so big respect for them
I heard she sang a good song, I heard she had a style. And so I came to see her and listen for a while. And there she was this young girl, a stranger to my eyes. Strumming my pain with her fingers, Singing my life with her words, Killing me softly with her song, Killing me softly with her song, Telling my whole life with her words, Killing me softly with her song I felt all flushed with fever, embarrassed by the crowd, I felt she found my letters and read each one out loud. I prayed that she would finish but she just kept right on. Strumming my pain with her fingers, Singing my life with her words, Killing me softly with her song, Killing me softly with her song, Telling my whole life with her words, Killing me softly with her song She sang as if he knew me in all my dark despair And then she looked right through me as if I wasn't there.

Radiohead borrowed the chord progression from All I Need Is The Air that I Breathe by the Hollies.
Glad u feel that way. For me its Rett Madison ;)
This is an awesome comment! Also in CO myself. Cheers to music 🍻
One day I will also live alone in a cabin on a mountain...
What a sad life
My gawd, the pipes on this woman. Wonderful!
India's voice is soo smooth and soulful! And she makes it look effortless!

I would killlllll for that control. damn! smooth like mom's butter chicken
Mind blowing fantastic fantabulated
I researched for almost a complete year and I finally figured out who you have to kill to get that voice control! HMU and I can tell you
It's autotuned

Interpretation so intense that can't be used as background music: you simply have to stop all that you're doing to listen to it.
The bass player is crazy GOOD!
And always in sandals 😂
Check him out on Louis Cole’s channel. You’re welcome 😉
He sure is!
Sam Wilkes is a living bass legend
…if you are that good, your footwear doesn’t matter any longer,,,😂
I am a simple man. I see scary pockets or/and India Carney, I click and like.
The drummer ... just chillin and vibin.
India you are a TREASURE ! Ryan the guitar is perfect ..... like the first time I heard it !
Wow young lady what a powerful voice.... And the band loved that Tempo Amazing!
Mr Wilkes rocking some glorious slippers there.
I feeling like crying-- so moving. To say you did this song justice is an understatement.
I definitely love listening to India's voice. Every time I stumble on some thing sung by her it's mandatory to stop and enjoy!
