The "dread" part was given by anglo saxons. It was originally locs. When the Europeans first saw our locs they called them dreadful. Which is where the name dread locs originates from
When you say "ANCIENT" this includes ancient Hebrew Israelites. They really remind me of the command from YAH when HE said to wear fringes on the garments. Its like fringes in the hair, which represent helping the ancient Israelites to remember the Laws of Yah. Have had mine for 7 years. Amen!!!
