Tips on dreading straight hair from someone who actually has had straight hair dreads for over a year and has also done it on other people with straight hair for years (no shade meant towards GTG- his tips are 👍😄): For straight hair its actually easier to backcomb the hair first then crochet hooking. Twist the hair section around as you crochet hook it. If you backcomb the hair it will help it lock up better. By doing the method Gunther is using the hair will shrink up, which is part of the locking process, but by using the backcombing process it will already have shrunk up more giving you a more accurate representation of what you will end up with. It will also help as far as when you wash it less of it will come undone- which is VERY common in straight hair. Once you have the hair in a finished dread you should palm roll the hair. Palm roll as much as possible whenever you can to help train the hair to stay in the dread. Use the crochet hook ONLY (after the actual process of dreading) after washing and your dreads are dry, after you've palm rolled. DO NOT USE THE CROCHET HOOK MORE THAN 4 OR 5 TIMES A MONTH BECAUSE YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE AND BREAKAGE!!!! I found that out first hand when I combed my dreads out. My hair went from waist length to above my shoulders because I had been using the crochet hook a few times a week for over a year. I didn't realize how bad my hair had broken off because it was stuck in the dread. It also weakens the dread. Also personally I think that natural tips look better on straight hair dreads than the blunted off tips- especially on us girls. It also helps if you think you might want to add extensions onto the ends to lengthen your dreads. ALWAYS start crochet hooking dreads with a 0.75 size needle and finish with a 0.50 size hook. It actually makes it easier. You can buy a set on Amazon with both sizes. I also HIGHLY recommend buying more than one set of crochet needles because they break VERY easy and nothing sucks more than to be halfway done with your hair and the crochet needle breaks. Try not to use any gels ever on your dreads because you'll get the little flaky white pieces on your scalp from the product and its a pain in the butt to get out. Tightening sprays like from Dollylocks do work great and smell good too but try not to use more than once a week. Washing the hair actually does help the hair shrink up and mature into tighter dreads faster but it also requires more maintenance. Ok I think i covered a lot of bases on how to loc up straight hair. If you have any questions feel free to reply and ask me. I don't mind helping. (& hopefully YT will even let me know there is a reply- a LOT of times here recently they havent notified me😡🙄🤦🏼.)

U put that wig on when the camera was off doesn't you??? I know u couldn't resist 😂
I like your 2018 intro please bring it back 😭
I’m just asking do box braids turn into locs after a while??
Great information. Hope that today you arent so afraid of working with people now.
Doesn't the interlocking change the construction of the hair that follows on to a series of knots?
I've been watching you before the name guntha the great I am now on my 2nd dred loc journey and so far I got 19 and the rest is in a bun when I get the rest done but when you spoke about rubber pins I felt that cause I've stabbed throu my thumb last week twice and then last year I stabbed between the Webbing of my finger all the way to muscle
love the video man, I have straight hair dreads and something i deal with a lot is my tips coming unblunted at first i started by folding over the ends like in the video then crocheting them in but after washing my hair the tips would just start to unravel and become just straight hair at the end again i find that pulling the loose hair straight into the dread from the middle and not the sides work a little better for them staying blunt but that just my personal opinion. keep up the great work you are one of the people who inspired me to actually get dreads ive always wanted dreads but i was nervous to get them because i didnt want to get judged for being white and having locs but thanks to you i can finally start my journey 2 months in today and im loving them. Check out 2alocs to see my 2 month journey
Power to you
How are they coming? Im at 3 months and just blunted my tips and finally feel like a real head now!! I tried the bamboo handle hooks but eventually did what you said, pulled the end back through the center of the loc. Dreadheadhq has a loose hair tool large and small that makes it easy. I still have a few to redo but man am i glad to be done with wispy tips. I get it though, im surrounded by Chump signs and get constantly stared at and occasional comment. Never TO me though, that's how cowards get down. learned that in an interracial relationship, when they're staring just make eye contact and don't break it , they look away even if with 8 other guys.
I did twist and rip dream and hate them iam gonna take them out and buy a crochet Nedsle and redo them thank you for showing me ❣️
You are Absolutely Amazing!! Thank you for all you do!🙏🏼 you are appreciated
Bro i really love your content about dreadlocks that so explicit would be nice if you make a vidéo about how to have a good section !!
So what do you do with the roots when you get new hair growth with straight hair. Do you just croche the newbgrowth?
Even though I don’t have straight hair good job
You make it look so easy.
I don't like people telling social distancing you people can tell physical distancing 🤐🤷🏼♀️🌻
I think back combing would make process easier❤️
Bruh his vids are 100% viiiiiibes
Where you located at? I need a crochet session with ya no joke I’ll travel
I'm low-key about to try this lmao
