This is how locs are done for straight hair. Black people merely twist or palm roll if anything. All this ripping, backcombing and using tools is a sign that it's not ideal for straight hair.
It takes a lot of time in the beginning. You gotta be patient twisting each strand you want dreaded everyday. It's high maintenance in the beginning but looks amazing once you got dreads really taking that nice shape.

Our hair locks naturally as long as it's not combed. I've got nothing against people of other races locking their hair. This method is jus strange to me.

African hair is not neglected. The difference is genetics, black hair is simply shaped differently than white hair, the hair is a spiral, not straight. European hair is not meant to twist or lock because it can't naturally hold itself or retain shape, you have to let your hair literally collect oil and dirt just to get it to turn into a dread. Africans don't have to do that because of coarse the hair is, black hair has more retention strength than white hair, which basically has none. ;)
I’m not usually a fan of dreadlocks (just personal preference) but I really like how small yours are a LOT better than the really thick ones. They actually suit you quite well!

A&A friends4life yeah, it's because it's meant for very curly hair that you can't maintain, so you make it into dreads and forget about it. both curly and straight hair will be ruined after that.
+pastichka I had dreads for 6 years and I recently took them out and my hair is just as healthy as when I started its longer and thicker idk about this method or white people but for black people it is a protective style
MicKayla Smart I saw a "watch me how I comb out my hair" video or something like that (the girl was with long Caucasian hair), and she just brushed the locks so brutally, pulling and such, her hair was completely ruined by the time she finished combing. So I guess it does depend on the way you brush it, and the type of hair - I'm absolutely sure curly hair needs a little less kneading to look good, whereas straight hair needs a lot of twisting and such.
I don’t even have long hair anymore, and this is making me wish I had it back. I also wish I knew about this when I was younger, it would have been great 😂 my hair was a rats nest anyways back then.
People who has never experienced locs, just need to all together be quiet. Nice video wild soul's. This channel was recommended by another wild soul, so here am to see your method while have a few moments. 😊
My hair is naturally curly, dry, frizzy, and gets tangled easily.. its a pain in my ass tryna get it under control, so i figured, if my hairs gonna be knotted and frizzy, why not have dreads? Lol.. im totally thinking about it!
I've waited a year and done tons of research and I'm finally going to do this! My hair naturally mats& creates mini dreads over night anyway so I may as well go with it 🤗 totally using your way and advice. Thanks for posting ✌
Honestly, when I wake up in the morning, my hair needs to be detangled in a way I feel I should be better off with dreads. In Europe, the Celts use to have dreads too. I have Celtic genes, so maybe this is why my brush hurts so much in the morning and my hairs breaks from trying to detangle it. I know the crochet hook is used by my white dreadlocked friends, while my black friends have a diffent way. Only my Asian friends cannot pull it off so far.
I’m in the same boat. Just started my 3rd set since 2008. My hair wants to knot badly. I’ve got the Celt blood as well. Every time I grow out my hair long, I end up dreading. I’ve got some spiral curls when long so I may try to keep those. Cheers!
@@S5S5066 While they traditionally have dreadlocks celts did lock their hair called fairy or elf locks. There are records of Celts having this hair since the Roman era.

I don't know how I came across this video lol, but the comments are rude for no reason. If someone wants to do something with their hair then they can, well because ITS THEIRS. I honestly don't care if someone of a different race wants to do this with their hair, because after all, a good amount of us wear weaves and such so I don't see what the big deal is. This whole thing is just unnecessary.
Jai Dená I know how I came across this video On my recommended it showed "taking out my dreadlocks" at that point I didn't even know what dreadlocks are (also I don't even look up hair tutorials so I don't know why that was on my recommended)then I scrolled down and it showed me this But these comments are rude
Thankyou. So many cunts on here going dreads are for black people, its a culture thing, white people shouldn't have dreads honestly it makes me skeptical about getting them aha.
This is where dreadlocks come from: "Some of the earliest depictions of dreadlocks date back as far as 3600 years to the Minoan Civilization, one of Europe's earliest civilizations centred in Crete (modern Greece)." ~wiki. Look it up. Don't claim your culture as the owners of this hairstyle, unless your ancestors go back to modern Greece.
I'm seriously considering starting on my loc journey. I'm 50 years old though. I have already heard I'm too old but I don't feel my age and I've always loved them. I will probably do it!!
fun fact. Dreads are basically the natural state of any long hair. Regardless who wears it. If you don't comb or brush your long hair for a good while, it'll eventually bake itself in with other sections of hair and TADAA Dreads. Now, im a guy with really long hair and have experienced it somewhat. During my time on the family's sailing boat. I never brushed or combed and it basically made into something closely resembling dreads (I of course took care of that as soon as I went home). Now I don't really have any plans on getting dreadlocks myself, but I sure was curious to see how others did it.
I got my hair professionally dreaded and then brushed it out a few weeks later, my hair is just as soft and smooth as it was before, dreads just didn’t look good on me
People with dreads ( which I’m one) wash their dreads!!!! My husband tells me all the time my dreads smell good, never once has anyone told me that they stink!!!!
Dreadlocks originated in India. Also the Vikings rocked some pretty impressive dreads way way back in the day.. yes in there ginger/blond/or brown 'white man' hair.
@Micadus that is not true bro, they were from scandinavia, back in them days a completely white race, so any viking born child would be white however they may have had kids with non-white slaves, yes, however that kid would be brought up a slave not a viking
I really love this video! I don't get it why some people here get triggered because this beautifull girl Will have beautifull hair, we are all one, all humans on this planet, so Let everyone do what they want :) Lets Keep it peacefull love to all of you ❤
Dreads are from Shiva and represent the lock of life essence and much more Also I read a Hindu indentured servant went to Jamaica and showed them the dreadlocks also called Jata and showed them the Ganja Then it got famous with Bob Marley Har Har Mahadev Quetzalcoatl
You teaching is great. Thanks for this. Half of family is white half is black and I do dreads. Only my own hair is harder to do then my black side of the familys hair. I like this method alot.
Right? If this video comes up in recommended you're probably watching lock videos, if locks don't vibe with you then why watch a video to comment negative things? Or why specifically search for videos to spew hate on. Ill never understand society or the online culture of "must shit on everything... Everyone must know I am full of ignorance and no confidence" like the over compensation in these comments is just insane.
I've had dreads for four years. Had my hair grow out for 3 prior. 7 years total of hair growth then shaved it all off. I'm now 4 years later into my hair growth and I've just decided now to get back into locks. It's a lond and tedious process when doing it by yourself man, but they looked good the first time and I didn't section or use a mirror or anything. Now It's different and I'm reasy 4 it!
Laughing at all the comments. Can I just close the debate by saying that dreadlocks happen naturally when you don't brush your hair and don't cut your hair. Any type of hair. Even animals with long hair have dreadlocks like yacks and donkeys. I honestly think we should pay some respect to donkeys and stop appropriating their culture.
@Rudy Jean Yeah, I don't aprove that black people have been criticized for wearing locks either. That was stupid and disrespectful. But what is also stupid is black people saying other people have no right to wear locks.
Noooo thank you! I cringed when she was “ripping” her hair, then tangling and fraying it into a dull mess. It looks cool on some people, but I’d never do that to my healthy hair.
It doesn't make your hair that unhealthy. Idk why everyone blows it so far out of proportion. And besides it's a dread, it's ofc not gonna be perfectly healthy hair, it's literally a clump of knotted hair mixxdd with dead hair

Hey I just want to say I really appreciate your video. I thought I could find someone to work on my hair and do dreadlocks, but I got some bad responses, so I’m going to do it myself. I kind of know a little about them and have had a few before from simply not brushing my hair, but I kind of wanted to make them look nicer, like not so fuzzy or a bunch of knots in my hair, so thanks. You did a great job in explaining how to make them look nice.
Yeah, I do crocheting, knitting and latch hook... that's not a crochet hook, it's a latch hook. (Also there is no such thing as a crochet needle, knitting uses needles, crochet uses hooks)
+Staysea Lauren I also make dreadlocks and I find it amusing how she doesn't know the actual name for that tool. Usually a latch hook is used to pull back in large amounts of hair in maintenance. It would take far less time to use an ACTUAL crochet hook.
This isn't the right way to do dreads. This woman doesn't know what she's doing and she just did a whole lot of unnecessary damage to this girl's hair. These so called "dreads" don't even look right
+Jay I also noticed the amount of damage she did to her hair, but there are different types of dread locks and this is one of the ways that a lot of people do them.
This is a thing called insta-dreads. Out of expirence people with thin, straight hair have to do a different method than a person with kinky, curly, thick hair. This method helps the hair not to slip against itself and come loose. This method is very damaging, using the hook expecially two months in if you continue you to corchet it causes breakage in the core of the dread and down the road some dreads could fall out.

@@thereturnofmr.tickles7981 you can think that, but it’s untrue. No race was in mind. Dreadlocks aren’t a race thing
@@ogrehaslayers605 yeah sure a white chick with an afro doesn't look goofy at all. Lmao
@@thereturnofmr.tickles7981 you’ve never seen white people with curly hair??? 😳

Lmao you ain’t kidding..
Hahaha first thing I thought she is way too happy
You have 420 likes that's just too perfect.
wtf?
Then you decide to brush them off eventually and end up with a ruined, thin hair with half the volume it had before.
same thing happened to raw alingment
That's because its not meant for thin(Caucasian) hair
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! My brothers friend was willing to pay me 10 dollars to deread his hair and I had no idea how! But now I know! Thank you
That's technically a latch hook not a crochet hook as you stated!
That's what i was thinking
Mzdiana you're correct! And we now have a free hook offer! dreadlockhook.com
Very timely response!.. It only took you a year 🧐
I don’t even have long hair anymore, and this is making me wish I had it back.
Same here. Do it, i am too 🙏
if you arent black dont
@@thiswasmelodrama any race is allowed to get dreads 🙄
Don’t do that method if you have curly hair try a different method
I've waited a year and done tons of research and I'm finally going to do this! My hair naturally mats& creates mini dreads over night anyway so I may as well go with it 🤗 totally using your way and advice. Thanks for posting ✌
How did it turn out?
Cheers!
No the only cultures that traditionally have dread locks are ones from Africa
@@S5S5066 While they traditionally have dreadlocks celts did lock their hair called fairy or elf locks. There are records of Celts having this hair since the Roman era.
I usually don't like dreadlocks, but the hairdresser looks pretty.
+Raelea Franklin Thank you so much for saying that! I love when people are nice.
I watched this back in middle school yearning for dreads. Now I’m in college and I’m about to dread my hair tomorrow.

Jai Dená I know how I came across this video
On my recommended it showed "taking out my dreadlocks" at that point I didn't even know what dreadlocks are (also I don't even look up hair tutorials so I don't know why that was on my recommended)then I scrolled down and it showed me this
But these comments are rude
Amen to that
half of them are racist, the other half are rude because this is a horrible idea that will ruin your hair.
Thankyou. So many cunts on here going dreads are for black people, its a culture thing, white people shouldn't have dreads honestly it makes me skeptical about getting them aha.
Jai Dená
Thank you for this amazing comment, you just restored my faith in humanity a little bit 💚💚
I love the way they look. Then I see the process, and it’s like oh no, no one is doing that to my hair
Searched this up. I was so curious to know how they are made after watching many dreadlock removal and cleaning videos.
Love this! I never even thought to use a latch hook over a regular crochet hook. You've probably saved me hundreds of hours on maintenance :)
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bitch the oldest for dreads is from Hinduism
The 'crochet hook' is actually called a 'latch hook' and it's also available at craft stores.
I'm seriously considering starting on my loc journey. I'm 50 years old though. I have already heard I'm too old but I don't feel my age and I've always loved them.
I will probably do it!!
You're never to old to be you😚
Love your videos , Love you
I am exactly the same as you bro.
If you are a black person with naturally curly or wavy hair, do not use this technique!! 🙅🏾♀️

you do know that the majority of people who have dreads wash them, right?
You still wash them dude
well, i can tell you that the hair smells the exact same with dreads as id did before
People with dreads ( which I’m one) wash their dreads!!!! My husband tells me all the time my dreads smell good, never once has anyone told me that they stink!!!!

Dreadlocks originated in India.
Also the Vikings rocked some pretty impressive dreads way way back in the day.. yes in there ginger/blond/or brown 'white man' hair.
Dreadlocks came from Sudan,Egypt and east Africa
korinn mcmurtrie you, your mom and grand mom are all crazy
@korinn mcmurtrie vikings did not have dreads. They washed and brushed their hair daily, they did braid their hair but never had dreads
Also you do know a good amount of Vikings weren’t white
@Micadus that is not true bro, they were from scandinavia, back in them days a completely white race, so any viking born child would be white however they may have had kids with non-white slaves, yes, however that kid would be brought up a slave not a viking
This is honestly wicked cool 😎 like chaotic braids.

Both of the girls are beautiful, she is definitely a professional what she does😉
I've had dreads for four years.
Very useful! Can't wait to have mine done 😊
This was the video I used to make my dreads! Thank you you guys are so great! Sending love and light! 😍

Yes, that is how i got mine! My boyfriend hasnt cut his hair for 7 years, he has a full head of beautiful dreads :D
@Rudy Jean Yeah, I don't aprove that black people have been criticized for wearing locks either. That was stupid and disrespectful. But what is also stupid is black people saying other people have no right to wear locks.
Honestly I think everyone looks absolutely gorgeous with dreadlocks!✌❤

Yep I saw the green.
Wow! It's elaborate and more neat and tidy than the last video I watched about the way of making dreadlocks .But I won't try this style😂
What do you think about making one small dreadlock? I'm thinking about doing one small dreadlock in the back.
No one asked
So true, it's like how to kill your hair.
@Jessica Erhard Thanks
these arm pit hair diserve some dreds aswell👌...

That isn't a crochet needle. It's a latch hook :)
That's what I thought to:)
Yeah, I do crocheting, knitting and latch hook... that's not a crochet hook, it's a latch hook. (Also there is no such thing as a crochet needle, knitting uses needles, crochet uses hooks)
And the "pokey end comb" is called a chemical comb 😅😅
+Staysea Lauren I also make dreadlocks and I find it amusing how she doesn't know the actual name for that tool. Usually a latch hook is used to pull back in large amounts of hair in maintenance. It would take far less time to use an ACTUAL crochet hook.

This isn't the right way to do dreads. This woman doesn't know what she's doing and she just did a whole lot of unnecessary damage to this girl's hair. These so called "dreads" don't even look right
Nigga she stoned chill
+Jay I also noticed the amount of damage she did to her hair, but there are different types of dread locks and this is one of the ways that a lot of people do them.
They are just too thin. XD chill out
That's a matter of opinion, not everyone is going to do their dreads the same way. That would just be weird lol
