Out of all the videos I've watched in preparation to repair and maintain my BF's dreads, this was the easiest to understand. Thank you for explaining the crochet method, instead of just showing yourself doing it while talking about other things. I completed hair school in 2002, and I have never in all this time actually learned how to do dreads. Derp.
Also, thanks for the positivity. I hope you have a really awesome life, and same to anyone else who reads this. Ima go hunt though your catalog now, and find out if any of your vids address the other questions I have. Xoxo

Thanks for your help on making dread locks. This may seam weird to you but I’m 64 years old and I make dolls. I wanted to make one with dreadlocks and had no way of knowing what to do. You have made this so easy. Thank again, I truly appreciate how easy you have made this 😊🤗💕

Ok now I've searched high and low to find out how to do the crochet locs technique, and THIS IS THE BEST VIDEO that actually shows you how to the Do the looping etc close up and in slow motion....🏆🏆🏆🥇🥇🥇thank you sooo much hon 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

@ladyshake Uk, I was thinking exactly the same. I haven't seen anyone explain it so simply and show it close up and slowly, hair by hair strand and literally showing where and how the crochet hook is picking up the hair and where and when you twist.... and I am not even interested in having dreads but I found it fascinating the process. Especially on straight silky hair, as opposed to afro coily and drier hair.

I enjoyed this video! A little bit of constructive criticism: some of the close up shots suffered from compression artifacts and occasional focus loss. I've confirmed that the compression artifacts are not a streaming issue due to them still being present after downloading your video in HD. Lowering the compression on future videos may help, as imagery such as individual hairs isn't something that compresses easily.

Excellent tutorial! I really wish I had known you 7 years ago when I got my dreads. I had them done professionally because I have EDS and can't hold my arms up long or manage a small instrument like a crochet hook or even a pen or pencil for longer than my signature usually. My dreads having been "professionally" done from start to finish weren't platted out (parted in even squares and put in the rows evenly in a brick pattern) which definitely made for future problems and my dreads aren't evenly spaced or sized. For what I paid, it pisses me off, but I couldn't have done it myself that way even if I was healthy! My hair was waist length which for the couple doing them was probably daunting. They did them in one day but like this video shows they didn't need to be super tight. Tight at the scalp I would understand if they were platted but they told me "aside from esthetics there's no reason for the type of parting out, it just takes way longer, and it won't even matter in the long run because you won't be able to see it". They were elbow deep in work already so I didn't push it because it was too late unless I bailed and got them fixed. I wouldn't do that to anybody. I finally went home with dreads that felt like I was being scalped every time I touched them and they stuck out like I was being electrocuted. They had also lost about 2"-3" more than half their length. They were up to my shoulders. I was happy I brought a hat but pushing them down under it hurt so much so I was embarrassed for a solid 4-5 days. My hair isn't super thin or baby fine but due to them not parting them in medium skinny plats (I wanted skinny dreads with whispy ends, it was already dies pink but due to my early grey hair I only deposited color and didn't use other chemicals so my hair was the healthiest it had ever been. Making do with what I ended up with was incredibly frustrating. I didn't even have 40 dreadlocks. I think it was 37 I counted. So once it grew it has been really hard to style. I never wanted to use extensions but due to how uneven the lengths were (top dreads are shorter than bottom ones for obvious reasons) I had to add some human har extensions to 6 or 8 of them even now that they are waist length again because I couldn't get them to stay in the simplest bun let alone anyway else. Leaving them down makes them look so sparse because I don't have more than what I started with, 37 or whatever it is.
Finding ways to style these has been such a pain I ALWAYS have them in this Marge Simpson bun and I hate it.

The first time I tried to diy my dreads, I did the twist and rip method, but then I had a bunch of twists that lead to holes in my dreads. So after 2 months of fighting with them I combed them all out. I had no idea that you could "twist too many times" so this video answered so many questions for me!!! So excited to try again.

      StacieLynnDreads what does that mean?

Wired And Stoned Look up the dread tag video. It's where you answer like 10 questions about your dreads like how long you have had them, how many you have and just dreadlock related stuff. Look up dread tag on RUclips here and plenty will come up. It would be really cool if you did one. thank you for replying

Thanks so much for taking the time to share with us. You mentioned spongy is better for maturing faster. I've been doing twist and rip and REALLY taking time to compact the hair so that there aren't really loose hairs to crochet. They are extremely compact. Is it better to keep them loose and spongy? Will going crazy compact cause them to not dread as nicely? I'm going for thin, smooth, tidy but with personality. Not a texture like mutilated Brillo pads! XD

Hmm "all" of the other maintenance videos gives advise of pulling the through. Just a thought. But I would like to have shown exactly how I put long new hair growth into the lock it belongs to. Being an amateur on my young locks (approx 3 months), I need advices to be detailed like this video is. Hope it can be done ❤
