You're correct on the Tertullian quote, he say in his work *On Idolatry* chapter 19, "For albeit soldiers had come unto John, and had received the formula of their rule; albeit, likewise, a centurion had believed; still the Lord afterward, in disarming Peter, unbelted every soldier. No dress is lawful among us, if assigned to any unlawful action."
He says something similar in *Of Patience* chapter 3, "He to whom, had He willed it, legions of angels would at one word have presented themselves from the heavens, approved not the avenging sword of even one disciple. The patience of the Lord was wounded in (the wound of) Malchus. And so, too, He cursed for the time to come the works of the sword; and, by the restoration of health, made satisfaction to him whom Himself had not hurt, through Patience, the mother of Mercy.".
Concerning Two Powers theology in ancient Judaism however, I do want to mention how Christianity is distinct from these traditions, because while these traditions are certainly important in understanding the cultural and religious context of early Christianity, it should be noted that believers in Two Powers did not believe the second power was equal with YHWH. Philo for example did not believe the Logos was equal with God, nor did any other group that identified Michael or the Metatron as the vice-regent.
Early Christians are distinct here, because as the late scholar Larry Hurtado has shown, in early Christianity the cultic devotion Jesus receives is integral in the worship of God and Jesus himself *is* the object that is to receive universal worship. Jesus is also able to perform activities that in other Second Temple traditions, including these Two Powers ones, is only reserved for God, for example while these other vice-regent figures are given authority to rule over the earth, Jesus has authority over the entire cosmos. Thus, Jesus has a far higher status in early Christianity than these other Two Power traditions. Thanks to the great work by Hurtado and Bauckham, early high Christology and not evolving Christology is emerging as the consensus among scholars. I think a JW, at least an honest one, should pause at this, because if early Christians worshiped Jesus and saw it proper to consider him equal with the Father.... Why don't you, exactly?
Also since theology and Mormonism have been the big topics in the videos, I just want to point out our man Joseph Smith's own developing theology! Our boy goes from modalism (Mosiah 15 seems to imply Jesus and the Father are the same person), to a binitarian view that the Father and Jesus are separate persons but are both God and the Holy Spirit is simply the emanation of the mind of the Father and the Son (Lectures on Faith, The Godhead). But then during the King Follet Sermon, Smith radically changes doctrine and reveals the doctrine of the plurality of gods and that God was once a mortal man (this is the Nauvoo, Illinois period where Smith would also reveal the doctrine on polygamy).
I believe this also partially explains why Smith's accounts of the First Vision contradict so wildly, in the first version of the story he only meets Christ, not Christ with the Father because at this point he believed they were the same, when he no longer believed this the story shifts to Joseph seeing both the Father and the Son. Then again his big grift before being a "prophet" was that of a conman, so what do I know.
True. The other major difference in Christian theology distinct from the two powers theology was the incarnation. Metatrone could manifest as a physical human but not incarnate and take on a second nature as the new t says about Christ. That in my estimation is the reason for the charge of blasphemy where in John 10, when Jesus makes a claim to deity and they’re ready to stone him they reply “we are doing this Bc you are a man who makes himself God” metatrone and the other candidates may have visited the earth but never as a permanent resident

God fearing Christians calling out false doctrine in a thrash band and not afraid to play this in any church they were asked to play in. My favorite band is Tourniquet, one of the best musically and lyrically in my opinion. This is one song I've been dying for Vin to break down. I'm glad to be here for it. 😁

Tourniquet is definitely a Christian band, and a pretty important one in the Christian metal world because they were (if I'm not mistaken) the first successful Christian thrash band, and therefore the first successful Christian extreme metal band (if you consider thrash to be extreme metal, which is debated).
You always apologize for going long, but these are your best videos. The deep, deep theological dives into metal are what made you my favorite youtubers way back from your early Behemoth reactions. You left so much much unsaid, and I think you should've kept going. At least go to an hour! You've done that before; in a Watain reaction, I believe.
Actually Believer and Deliverance were the first successful Christian Thrash bands especially Believer. Believer has been on mainstream metal labels most of their career.
Deliverance, Vengeance Rising, and Believer predated Tourniquet by a few years. Deliverance’s first demo tape was cut in 1986 and Believer’s in 1987. Tourniquet is unique and very good so it doesn’t matter. Personally my favorites are Tourniquet and Believer because their sound is very unique even in the secular world. Stop the Bleeding through Pathogenic are classic albums, as are Extraction through Dimensions.
They were technically a progressive, thrash, and neoclassical metal. They didn't fit with anyone specific and cut ground in many ways.

Tourniquet, in my opinion, is probably, the best Christian metal band ever. You should try out Erratic Palpitations of the Human Spirit. These guys are so good, that Marty Friedman, the guitarist from Megadeth, guested with them on their cd, Where Moth and Rust Destroy.

Tourniquet is definitely one of my favorite progressive metal bands of all time. Very influential to my taste of metal even nowadays. And yes, totally Christian. Ted Kirkpatrick was one of the most amazing drummers ever.

So this was an interesting one. It was the first time we have one of our alliance members win an xpick and select songs from only one band. So all the songs on this poll were Tourniquet songs. A bit unusual, but the original idea for xpicks that me and Drew had was that anything goes (ie no restrictions on number of times a band has been done or what genre they are) for xpicks.
I'm a thrash guy, part of the reason why I started the XU. So I enjoyed this playlist, Tourniquet is a band I am familiar with but hadn't heard a ton of. Good solid thrash. I believe at one point they were considered Christian thrash? Not 100% sure on that, but I think its the case.
Yes, Now it is Just Ted and Guests, and more animal rights than anything else. The first 3 albums with the original line up was simply phenomenal.

Yes, Tourniquet is a Christian band, in my opinion, the best Christian metal band. They were so good that Marty Friedman from Megadeth played with them for an entire cd. The best song by them, that I could recommend is Erratic Palpitations of the Human Spirit, about the processes our Spirits go through, throughout life.

The word translated god often for other beings in the Hebrew came to be used for beings that live in the spirit word so no there is only one God the Three in One Who created everything and all other beings. three books you may fid interesting I cannot understand much of the one which is Steven Myers return of The God Hypothesis written in scientific language like a text book in some ways. josh McDowell updated over 800 pages book evidence that demands a verdict but Grant Jeffrey has some great books too and he was a great writer. the way he wrote so Jesus the great debate and the book on heaven and creation. he mainly wrote bible prophecy but his doctorate was in biblical writings.
What I find hilarious is Vin bashing Brigham Young in this video, which just a few videos ago he was peddling The New Drug, a site (and program) who's founder is a teacher at BYU and a graduate from there, that get most of their financial backing from Mormon organizations. Uh...pick one, Vin.
