The animation the werewolf makes when he falls in the water and tries to frantically swim and drown is pretty intense
Im laying in bed, after a heart surgery. And I see that Mike has a new upload. Literally made my day.
Hope you feel better.
Good one and I became the first person to land on Mars
@@Bloodstained2077 if he's serious then you are a butthole
@Stephen Schneider Was born with it. Caused a few strokes recently, so they fixed it and after recovery no more risk.
Feel better. Hang in there man.
Sometimes Mile gets a game that I rented like once 30+ years ago, and suddenly I'll remember a specific time of day from that time long ago. Trippy.
I have a feeling that is the case for many people with this game. They played it as a kid and have fond memories without actually remembering what the game is like. Once you get a few stages in, its terrible. Cool concept though and the music is good.
Nailed it 👍🏻
Trippy
Same here I remember renting this game too never got far
@@mikematei hey Mike..thanks for playing these games for us you really are providing a valuable service for your fans aswell as providing fun entertainment and we love it keep gaming and we will keep watching
Those mini bosses look very similar to The Rock thrower golems in Karnov, also by Data East, which shares many design qualities with this game.
This one plays suspiciously like it was supposed to be a Wolverine game, but they couldn't get the license so they ended up changing the characters around. The enemies all look a lot like X-Men enemies.
Which is the opposite of what the first Batman game looks like. That one seems to me that it was already some other game that they added Batman characters to.
EDIT: Curiously enough, the same director worked in Captain America and the Avengers right after this one.
The whole game feels like an X-Men Inspired story. The final boss is literally magneto
This is correct.
What other Data East games are credited to this director? I want to play them all
@@shipped_my_pants_3000 On the NES, Al Unser Jr. Turbo Racing (an F1 game), and Captain America and the Avengers.
That kind of info is on Mobygames.
@@allluckyseven thanks. I never knew about moby
Mike always finds these games I never heard of but seem like I'd love them as a kid.
The guy's that say oh! look like hellfire club guards..was this a wolverine game somewhere else?
That Waterfall level is the one reason I quit trying to beat it. GG's Mike! Looks like I should give it a shot again. Thanks for all that you do!
I remember this game. My friend got it and brought it over. We were blown away by the graphics, especially the cut scene where the werewolf climes the building. It blew our minds for some reason lol but we were like 10 years old and games back then easily impressed. I remember playing this lots for the summer and enjoyed it, but I never could finish it.
Yeah later into the game it gets pretty bad with the platforming. But it does have nice music and cut scenes
Man I used to love this game, haven’t thought about it in at least 20 years. Thanks Mike, great video.
I had this game growiing up. This game always felt like it was wolverine reskined. You fight juggernaut and magneto.
Yeah it seems the designers were xmen fans
Exactly! I wonder what's the story behind the development and I wish someone could investigate that.
I had this game as a kid and it had such a cool look and music, but was so brutal and frustrating. I never made it close to where you did. I never ran into anyone else who had ever played it or even heard of it lol. Awesome to see you playing it for memories
Is it possible the human can swim, but the werewolf cannot? Admittedly, that seems like more of a vampire problem.
If thats the case, that would be a simple fix. I wonder
My aunt had this game. She had a ton of NES games. I remember playing this at her house. I remember the box art, the music and the first part of the game. That's all. I never got far into it.
Why give the werewolf a swimming animation if he's just going to sink like a box of lead?
Omg. I had this game growing up. Never got far in it and never knew till watching this video, that there is a charge attack.
It just gets worse further in and theres that awful siren
Always appreciate the uploads. Can come back and rehash this years down the road
I used to have this game. It wasn't bad. I remember that backflip especially. Actually I'm not sure if I had it or my cousin, I have a hard time remembering who owned what game, I used to borrow and lend games a lot. But I definitely played it. Didn't like it much at first but once I got a hang of it, it grew on me.
This makes me think "Altered Beasts" still those cut scenes are neat
I always really liked this game. The comic style cutscenes and music were just so awesome and the atmosphere was like nothing else on the NES.
Obviously in terms of gameplay, controls etc. it doesn't hold up very well now; but the jankiness is just part of the whole Data East mystique IMO. They made and published some damn weird stuff back in the day and I respect the hell out of them for it.
Yo this is a blast from the past for sure! My cousin had this when we were kids. I remember it being super hard! Also, the soundtrack is amazing!
Game Genie makes this game a LOT better. You can do "1 anger point to become werewolf".....and thats what anger does....it lets you change to werewolf form. then do the "blue w's wont cuange you back"....then you can pretty much always be the werewolf. There's a no damage code but, honestly just having the werewolf most of the game makes it more fun without being too easy. This and the megaman games were my favorite rental games in my hometown when i was a kid. This music reminds me of TMNT and Mega Man.....i want to hear james, do his Bevis n Butthead singalong voice.....duh, du-du, duh....duh duh duuum... i was always impressed with what they can pull off in just 8-bit midi tunes!!!
I remember seeing this game in the video rental stores when I was a kid all the time. I remember renting it and playing it, but I don't remember that much about it. Getting ready to watch the stream now and have some deja vu.
What a sick game.. Sorry us aussies say sick when something is awesome.
I was under ten when we had a sega master system then a mega drive when I was 12, I really wish we had a NES and SNES even though I fondly remember Alex kid, on MS, we didn’t have much else.. F1 which I didn’t like.. captain silver.. which was cool but hard for a kid.. Mickey mouse castle of illusion was awesome..
And for Mega drive I remember golden axe 2, streets of rage 1, and 2… shinobi, columns, sonic, sonic 2, but a lot of these got way too hard halfway through.. as a kid.. we had the yellow 6 in 1 bundle cartridge that came with the system..
We rented stuff like primal rage, another world, alien storm, desert strike and jungle strike which I loved..
But I totally missed out on the awesome NES library of side scrollers..
As for SNES games, whenever I played one at a friends house I just loved it..
Soundtrack is dope, cover art is crazy
A couple Tips -
Before the lightning ⚡️ starts, you pick up an invincible thing and turn gray, that's when you make your move, or see if it's multiple routes to travel, and take the low road if available and bypass lightning completely
In the water level, I'm not sure if you tried jump attacking the rocket guys or not, but i think you do that
My knowledge comes from watching another playthrough, dude went through that level never getting hit so it's probably some memorizing, patience involved and probably manipulating some enemies to spawn or not spawn as you go
Yeah I mean, I dont know. The jumping and platforming is not the best. So jump attacking them is hard and they are high up. I think often higher than you can reach them.
Someone else suggested trying it as a human. Hmm
@@mikematei there's some mechanic that let's you jump higher, not sure if it's when the wolf is angry or what
Sorry i don't have more specific info, like i said all i know came from watching someone
Man I had this game as a kid, lots of great memories.
In stage two big ball make you invulnerable so you can use it to avoid the thunder. In stage 3 you can hit the rocks for some powerups and it's easier to go through the cave instead of the forest as it is easier way.
Omg, watched this over 2 days and got the mustache guy’s music stuck in my head now
Awesome! I love how the difficulty ramps up on this one. I respect it for that
4:36--resembles Karnov actually...just a little skinnier haha.
Karnov should have been in Smash Bros.
You can just tell Data East wanted to do an X-Men game. Warwolf is pretty much Wolverine. Iron Head is like Juggernaut. Fireman is like Pyro, Dr. Faryan is like Magneto. Data East did a Captain America game. My guess is that they looked into the rights for X-Men, found that LJN had the home console rights, and decided to make a Wolverine game anyway without the license.
OMG!!! I completely forgot about this game! So many memories!!! THANK YOU! LOVE THIS GAME
Wow I never ever seen or heard about this game ever I like the beginning cut scenes and when u change music is good it's just reminder there so many games out there I have never touch or seen with the retro community there games later in life I'm now playing for the first time or falling in love all over again now I know how to play them
Dude the cut scenes for nes are dope and gameplay looks good too
That old man at the beginning of level two was telling you that you have 2 paths you can take through the level. In fact, this game has many levels that Yuli can take more than one route through. It isn't a maze, though.
One of the few NES games Mike streamed but didn't beat. Hopefully he comes back to it one day and beats it.
"Werewolf?!"
"There!"
"What?"
"There wolf, there castle!"
"Why are you talking like that?"
"I thought you wanted me to."
Love the game selection! Played this quite a few times! Wish I had the comic that came with this brand new out of the box!
I love this game, it's godawful but I love it.
Mike probably heard that game over music in his dreams after playing this. Love when he rages, especially about the dude that appears at the beginning of the waterfall level.
The jetpack guys on the waterfall level are absurd.
@@mikematei Can you jump up there and take them out maybe instead of trying to avoid their bombs? If you wanna try it again that is :P
I love all of your streams Mike! I wish you had more time to do more of them!
It took me so long to get past the waterfall. I was one of the best in my neighborhood and I only made it to the final boss in this. Whenever I start a new game, I race to the last stage I made it to. Eventually you get good at speeding through the other stages. Not speedrunning, just one fluid run.
Awesome game choice mike. This game was probably one of those underrated Gems for the NES.
Need to find a loose copy of this game. Mike, what do you think of the sega genesis mini 2?
Ive never heard of this game before. Looks decent I'm suprised I've never seen it before.
Watching the replay of the stream, but loving hit. Definitely hitting that bell
that waterfall section made mikes anger meter fill right up
37:39, absolutely brutal.
Hey man I appreciate the stream because you are always in the zone. I appreciate that.
hmmm that wolf emblem in the corner almost reminds me of another game....wonder if this is where the witcher medallion idea came from?
I rented this game more often than I would care to admit. The nostalgia does not hold up.
Omg bro! Thanks for bring my childhood back frfr❤
Mike, your the #1 retro gamer.
Aww man, I had this back in the day. I never beat it. Kinda gave up on it
This is another game I couldn't really figure out. It is great to watch Mike beat it.
Mike, keep up the streams, always a blast to watch. You really should try the game Mystery Quest on NES, although it torments me even to this day. I don't think I was able to ever beat it (it's one of those cryptic games and probably the hardest game I played as a kid).
Did you not watch the time he tried Mystery Quest? 😂
the Famicom version is better, (actually it's on the disk system, not cartridge).. it has extra stages and stuff...It's called Hao Kun something...The version we got in the states is butchered.
@@HiNRGboy Holy crap, I have to find this if it's on RUclips haha I'll have to look up the Famicon version!
This was a good stream. Always good for a laugh thanks for the streams
DON'T KNOCK the end button when you mean to select continue.
I've always thought this game would have been better if the human form was more useful.
Love comics, love monsters, but never had a chance to play this. Hoped you might go all the way. Maybe next time! Somebody should really mod it to straight-up be a Wolverine game.
The music in this game is so Anakin. On the council, but not Master.
Never heard of this mike but love were wolf horror games like altered brast with the change cutscenes
I loved this game back then. My parents bought it for after renting it. I loved the game. I also beat it. And I have no idea what happened to it. I also remember the comic book that came with it.
Came for the cool sounding game; stayed for the dance.
Been waiting for this a long time mike. Thank you
One of your best playthroughs Mike. This game is ridiculous and seeing you go through it is hilarious. "I...I like the wolfman!" lol This part is great 57:14 "stupid asshole....Stupid Asshole!" lol 🤣
This was the third NES, and overall 3rd game I've played way back when, and that stupid 4th level and blue W's wrecked me.
I still own this BS! nightmares of my childhood.
This was one of the first games I bought for my Nintendo.
These videos make my day 😀
There should be more guys spawned against you @1:31:55 I think that's fair don't you? 😂 😂 😂
Reminds me of Bio Force Ape.
I still have the comic book that came with the game.
After Werewolf what's next?
I remember that Frankenstein NES game James Reviewed.
Got any experience with that?
That was one of the episodes I helped out heavily with. I recorded the Frankenstein NES game for that video. James did the snes game. There were certain avgn videos where I did a lot of the gameplay and that’s one of them.
@@mikematei I see! I think it's safe That the NES one was a better game. The SNES was a crappy platformer.
I'll take a Castlevania rip off anyway over that SNES freak of nature
Love ya Mike, thanks for the memories.

Space Jockey
We Have Altered Beast At Home doesn't seem too bad, actually.
Don’t knock signs,..if you punch them they sometimes give items.
Never played it, but this game kicks ass. Music and graphics are very good for nes
Mick dese is a rely good game loved it as a kid
That sewer level
Is giving me fall of the foot clan vibes!
🤘😆YES!👍1 of my favorite games of all time!
Never heard of this game somehow.
Looks fun, but tough.
It's fkn hard, I got this for Christmas and it's tough.
Play Crisis Force on the NES, the last game by Konami for the console
Thanks!
Hey Mike, hope everything is well with you and your family dude. 💜🤝
make me a sandwich freak and get back in the kitchen
You get to murder that annoying mustache guy on the level after the waterfall and it feels really good, haha.
this was supposed to be x-men game wolverine at the beginning but they change it, right?
Man I could never make it far in this game but I friggin loved it
Wow this game looks like a lost gem. The music is great. Sounds like somewhere in between Mega Man and TMNT games.
A rare classic and hidden Little gem for the nes. I borrowed this game from a friend in elementary school and found it to be a really fun game. Thanks for sharing mike.
Interesting because I couldnt stand it hahaha
@@mikematei the werewolf with weird sword-hands was strange but I found the gameplay to be enjoyable and challenging. I unfortunately never completed it.
Mike great game man. Keep up the good work man.
Best werewolf game since Altered Beast
Bangerang! Love it when you do horror stuffssss
Have anything you'd like to see me play?
@@mikematei Eternal Darkness for sure!
You need to play phamtasy star sega mega drive and no help, hard att hell
Thank you to the real AVGN
39:37 jeeze. Why not have to press the SELECT on the _second_ controller and *REALLY* piss me off???
Wow Mike a lot of people don't know about this video game I remember this one awesome game I told James he should do review on that awesome game brother ❤️👌👊💪💯
