I'm SO glad this is being covered! I have PCOS but no issues with blood sugar (had tests done at the doctor). BUT, anytime I eat carby foods even in what's considered "normal/healthy" amounts (fruits, grains, some processed carbs), im SEDATED afterwards! Its horrible. I finally listened to my doctor and started a low carb diet and, wow! I never have those insane dips in energy after eating anymore. My energy and mood are so much more balanced throughout the day.
Have you ever thought of carnivore. This is eating meat, real butter, fish, eggs, Bacon. People say it's expensive but when you cost out all the things you need for a salad or other dishes just animal fat and protein are the only thing you need to buy. Meat will not make you fat or rot in your stomach. Veggies and other insulin spiking foods will rot in the stomach. Her plan of when to eat things in order still does little to curb insulin spikes. Her saying that insulin is the vehicle for energy is incorrect. We can burn insulin and ketones for energy. When you eliminate veggies starches and fruit they are 0 carbs and no insulin spike. Many athletes are becoming fat burners for long exercise like soccer or running marathons and can go without carbs loading. She mentions some good things but to have no mention of carnivore she does not say that insulin will not be spiked at all. Much of the past health advice is based more on promoting certain foods rather than science based truth. Sorry but a lot of her advice is more trendy than factual. Not eating starchy foods sugar veggies and will not spike insulin. Animal fats and protein will not spike insulin this is scientific truth.
Thank you for your video. Jessie mentioning glucose spikes is helpful. I have watched a number of her videos. Why not try carnivore. It is a very simple lifestyle eating meat eggs bacon real butter some fish and seafood. If glucose spikes are important to reduce the amount of them will help promote health and longevity. Sugar, starch and some veggies have insulin spikes. Animal fats and protein do not spike insulin at all. If you eat starches and veggies you will spike insulin. The most detrimental effect of alcohol is that it forces your organs to process the alcohol first before other foods slowing down absorbshon of everything.
Very helpful video. It clears up some things concerning my glucose monitoring. I have ate Ramen rice noodles with chicken and a dressing made from brown sugar and Braggs sauce and broccoli cooked in it and I couldn’t figure out why it affected my glucose levels far less than I expected and the same scenario with other meals. It was the order I ate them, as you said veggies, proteins and fats, starches and sugars last. Clears up a lot of questions I had.
The Water Cure calls for drinking water 1/2 hour before a meal. Light meals call for one to two glasses. Heavy meals two to three glasses. If I were to incorporate the vinegar, I'd put the Tablespoon in the first glass, drink it down, then drink the second glass to wash the acid off my teeth. I'd also use Bragg's apple cider vinegar. The water will hydrate the digestive system during that half hour, preparing it for a meal.
This video is the most informative and valuable to me of any Ive ever seen.. All I need to know now is how many green beens I need to eat before polishing off a bag of Chips Ahoy.
Love the video. The comments about honey are completely unfounded. I strongly recommend the two of you actually read the current literature on honey and glucose spikes.
One of the best interviews I've come across 👍👍Packed with useful, actionable info. I refrain from wheat, but like to have some preparation of millets. Instinctively I always consume vegetables before the millets ...good to know I'm doing atleast something right 😁This video is interesting from start to end, and lots of info that clears up long held beliefs, confusions & dogmas. And ofcourse, a pretty scientist elucidating what would otherwise be incomprehensible scientific jargon (for most of us) is very soothing 😀
So true that your body doesn’t know the difference in the type of different sweeteners you are eating. It just sees the glucose spike and glycemic spike occurs or ages you just the same way. Loved this discussion!!!🥰
Excellent interview. I have been applying these hacks for the last 6 months, just had my A1C tested and it is down from 6.3 to 5.7. List some weight too and enjoying eating carbs more mindfully.
Fantastic hacks and I love how easy and calm both are when talking and explaining. I have most podcasts as the they soo loud and too much interferences during the show. But Jesse have a good balance when asking questions and letting the guest speak and explain in her own space. I will surely follow 😍👍👍
I enjoyed the interview however, It’s a method not a hack you don’t need to use trendy new-speak to effectively communicate with young people, just use the proper word. This is something that the French and Italian civilizations have been doing for probably 1000 years the five course meal is designed to eat a varied meal in stages although not scientifically understood it most likely is ordered on how it made you feel when you ate. So congratulations you’ve used modern science to reinforce something people figured out a long time ago based on evidence and experience. We modern people are not nearly as smart as we think we are and previous generations are not nearly as dumb as we think they were
I am not very Sure @ sequence of macros. The eating time is average @ 30 min max , the food is in stomach for @ 2 hrs. It's mixed with digestive chemicals and thoroughly mixed and broken down. The small difference of 10-15 minutes in macro sequence may not matter at all. However, if you it Salads and greens and then Protin and fat; you are actually full and any carb or sweet dish will be miniscule. This will reduce calorie intake overall, resulting in all said benefits. However, presence of Fiber and Protin/ fat along with carbs will definitely reduce Insulin Spike. That's why in Indian meal, rice is eaten with green vegetables, lentils, added with Ghee (clarified butter) and added with lemon , Garcinia Indica (kokum) or tamarind.
Great information. A few other hacks that I use to avoid/minimize glucose spikes: - Cream + MCT oil coffee for breakfast. No carbs = no glucose spike till lunch, while still getting energy from the fats. - Lunch is very ketoish - no grains, starches or fruits. Just the small amount of carbs in non-starchy vegetables. - Some fruit and a small piece of bread before my evening bike ride. The (small) carb preloading helps with the ride and is quickly burned up. - The bike ride helps with reducing the spike from dinner, despite the dinner being my biggest meal of the day. I guess the body is 'hungry' to replenish stores that were depleted during the bike ride.
What superb questions....and what fantastic responses. So clear and so helpful. The both of you! Amazing! This is the video I will share - with everyone who will listen to me!!
Fructose is harmful only in large amounts, and it's difficult to get excessive amounts of fructose from fruit. For most people, the amount of sugar in fruit is safe to eat. Evidence suggests that fructose can cause harm when consumed in excess. However, there is not enough fructose in fruit to cause concern.
I’ll always choose honey over processed sugar - it has waaay more vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, calcium, potassium, vitamin C, zinc, phenolic acids, and flavonoids…
Our bodies need a certain amount of carbs to function properly. It is in all foods even veggies. It’s the processed refined carbs that need to avoided.
Sadly, what is NEVER MENTIONED by anyone talking about Healthy Diets, is how to eat the veggie carbs. Raw or Cooked !!! Does the cooking destroy the important fiber in veggies? What about canned beans? Would eating them before other foods also give the same protection, since they too have fiber & feed the gut bacteria. Would beans create that net?
Amazing on caffeine cycles. Ive done this too and always painful to stop, i dont even know why i restart. On caffeine, i am always tired in afternoon and after a couple months, some night disturbances.
You absolutely do not want to eat fruit with vegetables or other additional fiber, it makes for fermentation in our gut leading to gas and discomfort. I couldnt eat brocolli since i was a kid because i use to eat a high glycemic diet and drink soda often. Once i quit eating and drinking high glycemic food as part of my daily calories my issues with broccoli went away.
Thank you for introducing me to this wonderful, reasoned, non-dogmatic scientist in the nutrition field. Refreshing amongst all the diet gurus “insisting” upon their pet way of eating. I've long thought that our tongue must have sweet taste buds for a physiologic reason beyond just for mother's milk. This evidence-based and rational approach will be helpful for me and countless others who have been inculcated into an almost orthorexic state by the various dogmas. Kudos!
Veggies first to coat the stomach, maybe eating in a slower manner to help start the digestive process- this will help the other foods break down slower so that the blood sugar isn't spiked to an exaggerated level. Nothing about the mixing of foods in the stomach, just the order in which to eat your foods.
She speaks of many things Dr Jason Fung et Dr Eric Berg teach. I jus watched a vlog on "order of food" eaten the other day. And now this vlog pops up on my playlist. So crazy! Was wondering if there was a specific time frame in which we wait or not between courses? Dr Fung mentions waiting 10min after each course. Was it mentioned?! I feel like I maybe missed it??! Thanks SO much, L
If you want to eat carbs for instance potatoes, rice and pasta cook 24 hours before eating Put them in the fridge or freezer and the starch changes in its make up and the body can't digest it
And so traditional savory English breakfast has its scientific basis just like traditional European lunch made of salad first, main course /protein and starches / next, and high-carb sugary dessert last in the row. Water with vinegar is also an age-old remedy for cleaning the stomach first thing in the morning.
Great info and interview. Jesse you are the best! However, I get so overwhelmed with all this information, I’m stopping eating. Going to fast for 100 days.
I strongly suggest you watch Forks Over Knives…..lots of great info but there are many scientists, researchers and doctors promote the health benefits of a vegan way of living.
What’s the pre meal vinegar to water ratio? … you get used to it. I do 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar into a cup of hot water. I don’t know what the science is, but it gives me energy first thing in the morning. Breakthrough for me that if your dehydrated, sugar spikes higher!
If you don't have vegetables 1st but take a fiber supplement 15 minutes before eating for eating, what that do that do the same effect fact with getting fiber to stop the glucose from absorbing?
As a type 2 diabetic I am was so desperate to get my blood sugar under control and live a normal life. I hope to try all the hacks and pray to God that I will succeed. Tanks so much for all your research and for sharing same. Looking forward to purchase your book 😍👍👍
Im working on smaller amount of carbs to stop the spikes but its so hard to still get enough carbs through the day to not be in ketoacidosis. Seems im able to eat less and less each year. I feel your frustration and desperation.
The easiest way to control your blood glucose spikes is not to eat carbohydrate. Remember there are no essential carbohydrates. Cut them out and you'll have very little spike to control. Check with your doctor on how to reduce the meds as you may not need any after cutting out most carbs and the change can happen very quickly. Don't live to eat, eat to live.
@@katesmiles4208 unless you are a type 1 diabetic you should have no reason to worry about keto acidosis. It has nothing to do with the keto diet. Check out articles on low carb high fat diets for more info.
A lot of this sounds like rebranded glycemic index. Ok so honey is worse than sugar because of fructose and glycation. But the glycemic index of honey is much lower than that of sugar. So how do we factor that in? PS. A lot of good stuff too! I'm not just criticising here... :)
I enjoy a balance of diet , extreme diet ( vegan only ) is not necessary good. Food in take in certain order resulting glucose level controlled is very interesting . will try. thanks
The best time would be dinner, then breakfast. If you going to eat them for supper you may have trouble falling asleep. The ones you don’t have to worry too much about the time of the day are berries, strawberries, blueberries, elderberries, they have low glycemic index so they won’t spike your blood sugar, you can even have them as a snack. You may want to look up glycemic index for all of the fruits and decide which ones are better to eat, I personally stoped eating watermelon because it’s IG is very high. Also the more fresh a fruit is the least sugar it has, so eating green or hard banana is better than eating a soft browning one. Same citruses the more sourer the fruit the healthier.
Smart, Communicates well, which makes her beautiful inside and out. Like her I had my own health scare and I was determined to understand the biochemistry to heal and lose weight. After watching countless hours of college lectures, health vid channels, stuffy scientist with their own agenda, she sums it up in a no nonsense easy way to understand. I wish I found her in the beginning because I had to develop these hacks myself, but they work. The only thing I disagree with her on is artificial sweeteners, the evidence is still not conclusive yet, but so far it shows that the sweeteners mess with your gut biome, which affects stuff like glucose, etc. But great information, great video, thank you for sharing.
I have an intense sweet tooth and cant cut out how hard I try. I loved your suggestion on eating some sweet after a meal. I have another important question here. You are saying not to have a lot of fat. On the other hand, a carnivore diet is recommending as much fat as you can eat is better. Many of the researchers, doctors, nutritionists and most educated people are recommending this, not some random youtubers (with due respect). What should we believe?
She's very knowledgeable on many things but has a fat phobia probably from all the "eat less saturated fat" that we've been told for 50 years. Enjoy your fat. Your body will use it better than glucose if you are fat adapted. Try not to eat fat and carbs at the same time, thats not good. Believe the up to date information.
Question on eating greens at the start of the meal, does the way they're cooked make a difference on the production of that lining for example raw carrots vs steamed broccoli ?
Love the book. Recommending the book and Instagram site to my two nieces. One pregnant and one diabetic. I'm on the higher end of glucose so I have already changed what I eat first. Thank you Jessie.
I am sorry that there is so little information for those of us who pursue a fitness and nutrition careful life, and who are post menopausal. I am 70, walk and lift weights, eat low carb and use IF. This information is very interesting to me, but I don’t know if it will work in my life, where fat loss is extremely hard. I will try to use some of these hacks but wish there could be a context and application for those of us who are well past menopause. Women researchers seem to do most of their research with an age ceiling approximating their own age, I’ve noticed (if anyone knows different, let me know). Ironically, more male doctors and researchers seem to address this than women e.g. Dr. Berry.
I applaud you for your healthy lifestyle habits and nutritional choices at the age of 70. I live a similar life and getting ready to turn 55. I too found this interview interesting. You stated you didn’t know if these hacks would work for your age and I’m just curious why you would think they wouldn’t work. The hacks I’m recalling are walking after a meal, drinking water with vinegar before meals, eating a savory breakfast (or in your and my case first meal since we do IF), eating vegetables, protein/fat and then sweets and not eating sweets or carbs without also consuming a protein or fat along with it. These hacks don’t seem to be age related to me. If I missed something or you were thinking of other hacks not mentioned please let me know. I’m wanting to know because I plan on continuing my lifestyle to your age and beyond. Kudos again to you for taking such great care of your health. I’m sure you are setting a great example for the younger peeps in your life ❤️
@@lynda2844 Hey, thanks for asking! I think the reason I was lamenting a bit is not the overall message about nutrition, exercise, ACV etc. These things I don’t even think of as hacks but useful ways of caring for oneself that I’ve done for years. I think it was the discussion of the order in which you eat vegetables, then protein, then carbs…and asking myself if this will really help? Don’t get me wrong, it’s good info and I will use it but I would like to see all of this in the context of aging with vitality. I want to understand how to maintain muscle tone and fitness/nutrition within the context of hormone loss. I’m about 5’2” and around 116 I think. I’m not trying to be skinny-which I’m not-I just want to be able to keep my current wardrobe and fit my clothes well! But there seems to be a relentless tendency to size up which I resist💪🏻. There’s one influencer whose advice about fasting/feasting and carb cycling was so complicated I had to stop watching her. And all her advice was around the monthly cycle and what happens when you approach perimenopause. So…that was a long answer to your very nice questions. A lament, lol! Since you take great care of yourself can I ask you if you have struggled with crepey skin? And selfishly asking because I’m wondering if you found any good products that have helped. Like I said I’m almost 55 and am bothered by my crepey skin 🥺 I lead a healthy and active lifestyle…
@@lynda2844 Ahh yes, the crepey skin! My resources for learning what to do are Dr. dray, a no-nonsense dermatologist, and Dr. Berg, who discusses just about everything pertaining to nutrition and health in short, easy to understand videos. I took Dr. Drays advice on using appropriate creams and more than I was. She has fantastic recommendations and is against scams and breaking the bank. This really improves my skin appearance. Also I drink collagen every day in a hot drink. And walking and lifting weights does the most. If I were your age I’d be doubling down on sunscreen since it breaks collagen. Also I would be starting DRMTLGY’s wonderful neck cream. (Which I learned about from Dr. Dray.) All these thing help my skin resist crepiness and look more youthful. You’re wise to be getting it together in your 50s. I can tell you that I’ve actually seen some reversal in aging in the last few years. Now I’m sure you can guess what I tell my 30 year old daughter!😄

A "kilo" of butter? A "pad" of grass fed/finished butter is extremely beneficial to your system and glucose balance. Your body THRIVES on it!
SHE IS SO GOOD, KNOWLEDGE ABLE, SCIENTIFIC, AND CURRENT.
🙌🏻
Thank you. Excellent idea!
This video is the most informative and valuable to me of any Ive ever seen.. All I need to know now is how many green beens I need to eat before polishing off a bag of Chips Ahoy.
🤣🤣🤣
Love the video. The comments about honey are completely unfounded. I strongly recommend the two of you actually read the current literature on honey and glucose spikes.
I searched pubmed for "honey glucose spikes" and got no results. So which current literature are you referring to?
Great interview ! Jesse is very good at asking the great questions that clears many people's mind....thank you !
So happy you enjoyed Michelle! Thanks 💙
Absolutely!
Love this discussion! So glad to meet Jessie! Now I can refer my kids to a young, hip scientist for info on the effects of glucose!
Yes but watch out she sometimes uses language she shouldn’t.
Excellent questions Jesse, I really loved this interview, fabulous information, informative, easy to listen to and some great takeaways. Thank you
One of the best interviews I've come across 👍👍Packed with useful, actionable info.
This was the best interview ever! Jesse asked all the right questions. Great information.
Thanks so much Robin - happy you enjoyed our chat 💙
Since i switched to carnivore I don't even want to look at carb direction
Apple Vinegar make Stomach acid, so this is very good for digestion. I make it. Only water not.
Welcome to the channel Chris - thanks for the love! 💙💙
We modern people are not nearly as smart as we think we are and previous generations are not nearly as dumb as we think they were
Well said!
Sweets last. Have your meat, then your pudding. Sometimes Grannie knows best.
A few other hacks that I use to avoid/minimize glucose spikes:
- Cream + MCT oil coffee for breakfast.
You eat just a piece of fruit and bread for dinner? What kind of bread do you use?
Sounds good to me. I'm eat very few carbs so no spikes. I eat to live not live to eat.
What superb questions....and what fantastic responses. So clear and so helpful. The both of you! Amazing! This is the video I will share - with everyone who will listen to me!!
Thank you Helen! 💙
This interview is on point. Touches on all the things I’ve been wanting to know!! Both the interviewee and interviewer are very good!

Oh my days ... this is excactly how I eat ... Waoo I am so glad to know I am doing all the right things ... amazing
I found the title. Thanks. Finally I can eat carbs and not feel guilty. The keto diet is hard but I am reading all labels now.
What is the title 🙏
I’ll always choose honey over processed sugar - it has waaay more vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, calcium, potassium, vitamin C, zinc, phenolic acids, and flavonoids…
i love this woman....

Vinegar is acidic so it should help digestion when taken with the water.
the less carb, the better.
Yeah, and its everywhere..
Not really…if you exercise with intensity you cannot go without CH
Our bodies need a certain amount of carbs to function properly. It is in all foods even veggies.
It’s the processed refined carbs that need to avoided.
That’s not what she means
@@mebunzing what is CH?
Sadly, what is NEVER MENTIONED by anyone talking about Healthy Diets, is how to eat the veggie
carbs. Raw or Cooked !!! Does the cooking destroy the important fiber in veggies?
What about canned beans? Would eating them before other foods also give the same protection,
since they too have fiber & feed the gut bacteria.
This was extremely helpful and I enjoyed the levelling effect thematic throughout. Will be watching out for more from this author.
Happy this was a hit for you Lliam!
Kudos!
Good info, I've watched hundreds of videos on nutrition and this is the first mention of eating food in a particular order.
Seventh day Adventist, one of the Blue Zones walk at least 10 minutes after meals, maybe not every meal but they emphasize this.
TOTALLY CONFUSED!!! The stomach doesn't keep "foods" separate. Everything gets churned together and then the stomach empties.
This happens in the initial stages when food goes from stomach to intestines
Veggies first to coat the stomach, maybe eating in a slower manner to help start the digestive process- this will help the other foods break down slower so that the blood sugar isn't spiked to an exaggerated level. Nothing about the mixing of foods in the stomach, just the order in which to eat your foods.
Yeah. I was thinking the same. How long will my meal be having to wait for the different digestions to happen?
1:04:00 to reduce acne - reduce glucose spikes and you can probably continue eating dairy
If you want to eat carbs for instance potatoes, rice and pasta cook 24 hours before eating
Put them in the fridge or freezer and the starch changes in its make up and the body can't digest it
These podcasts are revolutionary for me keep up the amazing work
Thanks for the love Arran 💙
She is young. She fails to address post menopause which severely changes the entire digestive system and most women have no idea how to treat it.
@@seven7118-q7j I didn't even recognize myself when it hit. My entire system went haywire.
The best video yet!!! I want to read her book. Someone who finally makes sense.
Thank you for the love Linda! 💙
And so traditional savory English breakfast has its scientific basis just like traditional European lunch made of salad first, main course /protein and starches / next, and high-carb sugary dessert last in the row. Water with vinegar is also an age-old remedy for cleaning the stomach first thing in the morning.
I love a biscuit with tea without sugar early morning when i start thee day how can it beade better as cant avoid the small piece of bisciit.
Interviewer is simply good
💙
I like Jessie and her knowledge is golden. Her nails however, are so unsightly.
Min 20: glucose levels can spike depending on other circumstances like stress levels, other than food !!
😮😮😮
Great info and interview. Jesse you are the best! However, I get so overwhelmed with all this information, I’m stopping eating. Going to fast for 100 days.
I strongly suggest you watch Forks Over Knives…..lots of great info but there are many scientists, researchers and doctors promote the health benefits of a vegan way of living.
Thank you for this excellent interview ... great guestions with practical information. I hope to put it into practice, beginning today. 😊
In the video she says a tablespoon of vinger
If you don't have vegetables 1st but take a fiber supplement 15 minutes before eating for eating, what that do that do the same effect fact with getting fiber to stop the glucose from absorbing?
Jesse and Jessie, love your content, thank you, thank you!
Best of luck on your health journey Chris 💙
The easiest way to control your blood glucose spikes is not to eat carbohydrate. Remember there are no essential carbohydrates. Cut them out and you'll have very little spike to control. Check with your doctor on how to reduce the meds as you may not need any after cutting out most carbs and the change can happen very quickly. Don't live to eat, eat to live.
@@katesmiles4208 unless you are a type 1 diabetic you should have no reason to worry about keto acidosis. It has nothing to do with the keto diet. Check out articles on low carb high fat diets for more info.
@@donaldevanshennings7732 what about vitamins and minerals and antioxidants? Can't you even get scurvy?
I wonder whats your take on low carb/keto 🤔
Watch diary of a ceo she mentioned her take on keto
A lot of this sounds like rebranded glycemic index. Ok so honey is worse than sugar because of fructose and glycation. But the glycemic index of honey is much lower than that of sugar. So how do we factor that in?
PS. A lot of good stuff too! I'm not just criticising here... :)
I enjoy a balance of diet , extreme diet ( vegan only ) is not necessary good.
Food in take in certain order resulting glucose level controlled is very interesting . will try.
thanks
Better to eat a species specific diet. We evolved to eat animal products, thats why our appendix is now vestigial.
Thanks for this discussion. Very insightful.
Excellent podcast. Thanks to both of you. Cheers !!!
Thx Gurmukh!
Good one, thanks to both of you.
Many thx to the scientist I eating using the hacks so wonderful but I would like to know when to eat fruits ? Thx for the lovely interview
Great teachings! I wonder if it is as good to use lemon juice instead of vinegar - in water before meals?
In her book it says if you don’t like vinegar you can use lemon water 😎
Happy you enjoyed Chris - thanks for watching!
I agree as well on artificial sweeteners, everything else is on point,
Are you a scientist ? I think she is one!
Munkfruit stevia, erythol are ok sweeteners. They dont touch your glucoseor insulin levels.min 35
Agave is almost entirely fructose. Therefore it’s the worst sweetener
33:00 honey has more fructose than table sugar and berries. Monk fruit and allulose is better than sugar.
Question on eating greens at the start of the meal, does the way they're cooked make a difference on the production of that lining for example raw carrots vs steamed broccoli ?
Carrots are orange 🤣🤣🤣
Love the book. Recommending the book and Instagram site to my two nieces. One pregnant and one diabetic. I'm on the higher end of glucose so I have already changed what I eat first.
Thank you Jessie.
This is really helpful. Thank you

I do notice there’s not a lot out there for older women who want to train safely for their age and abilities. There’s one influencer whose advice about fasting/feasting and carb cycling was so complicated I had to stop watching her. And all her advice was around the monthly cycle and what happens when you approach perimenopause. So…that was a long answer to your very nice questions. A lament, lol! I love being my age and how aging lets you lay stuff down that you don’t need anymore. But health and vitality isn’t one I want to lay down! Sounds like that’s true of you too.
@@thestraightroad305 Ahhh ok I get where you’re coming from now and I can agree-I haven’t seen anything for the content you mentioned and for your age. I hope you are able to find some answers and I hope by the time I reach your age there will be lots of that content out there.
@@lynda2844 Hi Lynda! In case you are interested, just after we commented,I found this channel specifically for women going through menopause or who are post menopausal. I got interested and watched many of her videos, which are health focused not “diet” focused and are generally in line with Dr. Fung, Drs.
