I think I just needed to tighten that noodle wire and not new pads after installing new pads the same depth.
This taught me that and saved the other 2 new pads for later. Thank you very much!

and mine don't have a spring like that...the spring mechanism is enclosed at the point where the brake set is screwed onto the bike.( the part the pad is screwed onto)

Great video! However, I have seen other videos that tells you to make the front of the pad to touch the rim first, so it does not squeak as much, and that the back wheel brake should be adjusted so that it hits the rim before the front brake so that the bike doesn't eject you when you hit both at the same time in an emergency situation. I have fallen from my bike because of too sensitive brakes specially in the front. Just wondering, thanks.
The TACX tool he uses in the video is tapered so toe-in, what you describe, is automatically done by the tool.

hi sir....yes i have a major problem...when ever i hold or press brakes and then release, my brakes don't pull back easily...i check the tension it's ok...when ever i remove the noddle the brakes pulls back very strong...but when the noddle is place back, it gets tight again....do i have to lubricate the noddle tube? and does my cable have to be straight...meaning my cable at the moment is really miserable.
Any ideas how to remove the pad when the Allen key won't do it. Looked inside the bolt and it's quite worn, so the key just 'slips' when tension is put on it?
I mixed up my spacers. This should be fun trying to figure out what goes where. Any advice?

Mine were a pig! They actually moved within the callipers with an auto angle adjustment, It was a case of getting them in the right position on the calliper frame with a certain point at 5 o'clock. Only then could I get the return spring in the correct hole. If it wasn't spot on the pads wouldn't line up on the wheel. You also have to work out which side the thick on thin spacer goes. Anyone have a link to the brake sheath he used?
I have a Trek 7,2 FX that I bought used. I plan to replace the brake pads soon, so I'm looking at brake pads. Wouldn't you know the Trek site doesn't list any pads! That's OK, I thought, I'll just match what I have with what's available.
So I looked at the pads on the bike but instead of being off-center like all the V-brake pads I've seen, these are perfectly centered, with both sides the same length. I can't find any pads like these and I'm hesitant to use another style because I'm afraid it may affect the braking. Of course the guy I bought the bike from may have installed new pads and he used the wrong ones.
I'm guessing as to how this came about and don't have a clue. Can anyone help me resolve this?
How do you know how much to tighten each spring on each side though? Like, how do you know to turn the left side X amount of times then start adjusting from the other side, as opposed to just tightening or loosening one side to even it out?..... If that question makes sense!
I was adjusting mine today and I still feel like it's not completely right.
Additionally, how to know when to replace the actual calipers?

Great Instruction video. I have one question. I purchased new brakes, but the location of the hardware is reversed. The large spacer is on the brake pad side. Looking at different videos. I’ve seen the location different ways ( the large spacer / small spacer ) does the location matter ?
The arrangement of spacers aids in positioning the brake pad and insuring a stable mount. You can achieve this with the spacers in various positions.

Line the pads up against the rim, but leave a little slack in the cable.
SAUL please help. I've adjusted & balanced my TEKTRO V-brakes & initially they seem to work fine, but after engaging them several times I'm noticing one side tends to stick. Any ideas on what is causing this to happen?
+ozzie hansen If one pad is catching on the rim you might need to flatten or replace the brake pad. Place some coarse sand paper between the rim and pad and run it or the rim back and forth with minimal pressure to lightly sand the pad flat. If the spring tension is uneven you will need to adjust the spring tension. Good luck.
@@velotiqueBetterWatchSaul sir, I have the same problem, one side is like jamming the rim, I got it replaced at the store and it was just brushing, I tried to fix it myself and now it is totally jamming it. Both are brand new pads.

Hi how can you do this on a bike where the noodle is fixed and can't come out?
The noodle is usually not fixed. It might be tight. Undo the cable from the brake and try with the cable undone.
keep your old threaded-post pads and their hardware.
they make handy quick-fix fasteners (and you can remove the washers to get the right spacing).

I really need that brake guide. I want everything to be presice and it's very hard to align these brake pads. Does anyone know where I can find the special kind of nuts for the brake pads in steel or stronger material?
Have you tried your local bike shop? They may have it or be able to redirect you.

I found a set of them made out of titanium online though. They are really strong.

Google it. It is called a Tacx Brake Shoe Tuner T4580.
Its actually pretty simple and straightforward once you get the hang of it.. Now I can just get the brake pads and fix em myself! No need to have the bike shop guys install it for me.. Thanks for this vid!
I see the order of the pieces ok, however which pieces go on each side. Did I miss something??

Make sure the pads and rims are clean. Use softer pads or replace your rim/wheel if the rim's hard outer coating is gone.

Pad hardness is the variable. Soft pads, stop best but wear quickly.

Determine where the problem is.
If brake pads are are worn unevenly, they can hook onto the rim and stick. (replace Pads). Check the brake caliper movement without the cable connected. If calipers are dirty they will stick (remove calipers from post, clean and lubricate). If the noodle is the problem (replace cable and noodle)
Hi, I've just fitted some new pads to my bike but as the old ones I had were really worn down when I've fitted the newer thicker pad the wheel struggles to move freely, how can I adjust the brakes to allow the while to move? thanks
Loosen the brake cable. Use the adjusting barrel or detach the cable anchor bolt and extend the cable to improve the pad clearance.

Why dident you show the order that the washers had to go on?
new pads come with the washers in order.
There's surely less spring tension on the side that moves - not more. The tension is acting against the cable pull, the cable pull will over come the side with least resistance first.
Both sides should move equally.
Have you got three hands or was someone else squeezing the brake lever? Thanks for uploading.
One thing you didn't go over was how to adjust the brake noodle to fit the new brake pad. How to account for the extra space

Loosen the brake cable. or Replace the cable to fit the the new, thicker pads.

I was out on a bike trail and had a problem with my chain, it got twisted, iI had tools with me to fix it, I cut out the bad part and made my bike a single speed" i have a 21 speed by the way, put it back together with no problem that was 5 years ago, But this time when it happened it was a night mare for some reason i couldn't get the chain tight, my tires keep rubbing on my brakes i don't understand what happening or why it's happening this didn't happen the last time, it reminds me when i was young and this happened i had people who worked on bikes stepped in and fix it, But would n't tell me what i did or was doing wrong ! Can you advise me because i can't afford to take my bike to the shop and it's far away from where i live and it's my only transportation i have, please help! PS. main problem my chain will not tight up so i can petal and my brakes keep rubbing the rear tire I CHECKED MY TIRE IS NOT BENT

How to select brake pads that would have greater stopping power, even in wet conditions and more slowly wear rims?
i cant fix my brakes with this method, i`ve adjusted the spring tension screws,but its not making a differance, one brake pad is 1mm from the wheel, the other 4mm, how can i fix this please?
+Stu Wright Check to make sure the springs are in the correct position next to the set screws. Make sure that the calipers move freely and are clean and lubricated. If all else fails position the brake pads to center as close as you can.

You don't have too. It is best if you replace the pair because they wear out as a pair.

It can be done without the jig. Just center the pads on the rim with cable not fully tightened.
