You did a SUPER JOB! My boyfriend, who is an electrical engineer was even super impressed with how you explained the process so beautifully. Thank you.
I really appreciate your patient way of explaining other you tubers cover WAY too much information too fast, I'm a guy who is horrible with my hands and this just what I needed
As someone who has just started cycling for the first time since I was child and never had to do his own maintenance this video was fantastic. Thank you!!
We appreciated that your presentation pace was slow, easy to follow. Oddly, our bike assembly manual did not address this particular issue. You made fixing it easy. Thanks.
Thank you for this video! I just got a new bicycle from Walmart, and the brakes have been rubbing the rim while I'm riding and slowing me down, I'm glad it's an easy fix!
Just spent $200.00 on a tune up (with new pads) only to find this problem on a ride. 1 screw was all way in and the other backed out. Thank YOU! SO MUCH! Also put a bit of loc-tite on the threads
Thank you so much! I have taken my bike to the shop twice to have this fixed and once I would start riding, the brake pad would readjust itself so that it'd rub on the rim again. I'm going to try your tips tomorrow to see if I can fix this issue for good. Very helpful video!
Thanks . My daughter has this problem with her bike and we are traveling the country with the bikes on the Rv bike rack . This should fix the problem and allow us to explore more area
I could only hear a few words of what you said - realize that most laptops have poor speakers, but I watched & hopefully, will be able to adjusts my bike. Turn up the volume when videoing. Thank you.
I love the internet thank you so much I just started cycling and was sitting there for hours fiddling with my bike wondering wtf I was doing wrong and watched this and immediately got it
Noticed on my last ride I couldn't coast too far. All so it was difficult to pedal even in a low gear. Stopped and noticed one brake pad was rubbing on the back rim. Thanks for the tip, had the back brake apart in my garage. Now I know to just adjust the screws........... cool.
Good explanation of centering brake pads. I would just add that it's a good idea to keep the two adjusting screws as nearly equal as possible as this maintains the overall range of adjustment available. So rather than continuing to tighten the balance screw of the left side I might instead try loosening the screw on the right side.
Thank you so much for carefully explaining adjusting the rear brake pads! My right rear pad is rubbing on the rim and no one (including the manual) has addressed this properly! The closest help I've gotten is "you can turn the adjustment screws....even the manual says turn them in or out until the pads are.....Now I know which way to turn them! And also if I loosen the cable on on the rear brakes, I can tighten the handle bar cable to balance it out. Great😀😁👌👏👏👍👍👍
Thank you sooooo much bro for this information I spent lot of money to repair rubbing breakpads of my cycle but it was of no use thank you now my breakpads are fully okay
Thanks alot...i see and do everything you've shown but the left front pad (when facing the bicycle)is still resting on the rim; the front wheel is not spinning freely between the brakes...what do you suggest next? Great tutorial tho.
I faced the same problem and took it to my local cycle mechanic who alightened the wheel by loosening and tightening the wheel bolts. It worked the break pads were positioned with a suitable equal gap on either side of the rim.
Thank you for this video. I just bought a new bike and the front left brake pad is rubbing on the rim. Wasn't sure how to fix and found this video. Very helpful 👍
It could mean eventually ur brakes are needing replaced or ur brake cable all depends in condition and how old they are even looking good they can look deceiving I’ve spent many day trying too fix and no avail best start from scratch if ur going too keep bike for while
Thank you so muchh, I think this is really helpful. Unfortunately yesterday I made an accident on my bike while working on it. and the brakes of the rear wheel are like stopping the wheel without pressing the liver. Can you please help me ?
@@FactFunKids Not sure what you mean? Is the brake pad hitting the rubber wheel instead of the rim? There are videos showing you how to change brake pads/how to adjust them
@@Homeneer so do you like ajust the bolt on the top too fix it? Or just change the whole thing because I don't need new brake pads I got a new bmx bike it came like that
My bicycle one side is fixed.. Like touching the tyre and the other side is moving.. What do you suggest. This is the same even after adjusting the screws
If you spin the wheel does the rim touch the brake pad all the time or does the distance to the pad change? If it changes it means you need to true / align the wheel first.
Thanks for the video. I have a problem where my brake pads are rubbing but there is also not enough tension in my brake lever. I've tried aligning the brake pads by adjusting the tension screws as you did in this video but I can't figure out how to fix it. Its a new bike too. Anyone got any suggestions?
On new bikes sometimes the rim spokes might need a bit of tightening. Is the wheel wobling when you spin it? If you look for truing wheel videos those might help.
Thanks! I guess I have this problem and will try to fix myself. Today I made 6 km with my bike with the wheel almost blocked and seemed that I climbed a mountain 😂😂😂 my bike almost stops in a valley 😂😂😂
Hi thanks for this video. When I tighten the screw by my brake though it is still not really moving, doesn’t seem to make much difference even if the screw is tightened as far as it will go. What do I do then?
I tightened the screw all the way on the brake that is sticking to the rim and loosened the other one and the problem is still there. Do you have any suggestions?
Did you try loosening the cable screw (on the brake arm), pulling the cable tighter, and then re-tightening the screw? It may help. Also it's possible your v-brakes may need to be replaced. Mine do. I have the same issue.
What if the distance from brake pad to rim, on both sides, so close you can't see which side is too close, and both arms are moving, then what? I've been trying to do this for 1 1/2 hrs ha! I end up turning the screws so close I go by the feel. I get it close but not good enough, still rubbing. I also have the barrel adjuster in all the way. Thanks for a nice video!
@@Homeneer Hi Homeneer! Thanks for taking the time to respond! I had my bike in a shop 2 days ago and the mechanic did exactly as you advised, he loosened the cable. Then it worked! After I was riding home I noticed a soft rubbing sound and somehow on its own it is slightly rubbing, so today I'll try very carefully adjusting those set screws. It's funny how one can be mislead to thinking you need to lubricate the V arm that isn't moving enough or not moving and it's in the set screws. I'm learning slowly by doing and by great advice as from you. Thanks!
Sorry haven't come across that situation. Is one screw missing? Perhaps you can still adjust it normally since the two v arms are connected with the wire.
Thank you it helped I can cycle now but sometimes when I do my front wheel just suddenly stops and also whenever I’m cycling I hear a noise with my chain like a clank noise any help on that aswell . Great video

Not quite sure which step you are having difficulty with. If it's the brake wire being too tight then would suggest loosening it from the V brakes side.
Do you have v-arm brakes? If you spin the wheel is it wobbling or straight? Quite often truing the wheel can fix an issue were the brake sticks. It might also be the v-arm spring is just too old and thr v-arm needs to be replaced.
@@Homeneer yes i have varm brakes. The wheel doesn't wobble. When i press the brakes, the vram calipers dont realize. The bike is a bit old and i think its is time to change them.
Unfortunately this did not fix my problem- one brake pad rubbing on the rim. I turned the screw in clockwise on the side that rubs, until it could go in no further. It changed nothing. Any advice?
If you spin the wheel is it spinning straight or moving from side to side? If the wheel is straight then check if you have a screw on the other side you can also adjust. If that doesn't help then perhaps the springs on the brake v arm just dont work anymore and you need new v arms.
@@Homeneer It was spinning straight. I think you are probably correct, as I did try the screw on the other side as well - both directions - nothing seemed to fix it. I gave up and biked with it rubbing (lightly). I will look at replacing the v arms. Thank you!
