Ironically, I just checked out Ghost Squad at the library yesterday, but now I am even more excited to read it since you recommend it! I am so close to finishing my first middle-grade draft and I love finding new book inspiration. Have a wonderful day!
Oh, this is so cool! As someone who wants to write middle grade fiction and perhaps make videos about it, this video helped me out. I've read a ton of middle grade; it's gotta be my favorite demographic to read for. It doesn't underestimate children, and it tackles all sorts of issues (domestic abuse, refugees, even cults) with what honestly seems to be more nuance than YA. I also feel like the worldbuilding is more creative, and the books themselves aren't too cynical or bleak. And I can avoid the gratuitous romance of YA! Woohoo! This video is a great example of how to film a book rec video.
Thank you for the recommendations! I'm in the middle of writing my second middle-grade book (well the first one is still the first draft and not a book) so this video was a great inspiration to watch.
My middle grade sons absolutely love the keeper of the lost cities books. They have a really great voice, and excellent pacing. Definitely a fun series to dive into.
Awww!!!! I loved it!!! You are always adding to my TBR!!!! Thank you!!!!! You are so amazing!!! And I hope you are feeling better sending good vibes and healing vibes your way!!!! I can almost feel like your going to be giving us big news soon!!!!! 🥂🥂🥂🥂🥳🥳🥳🥳🍾🍾🍾🎉🎉🎉🎊🎊🎊🎊🎊🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩💐💐💐💐
Such a great list, Lindsay! I've been really into reading MG lately, so here's a list of recs I have! (Some I have read, some I'm excited to get to!) -Front Desk by Kelly Yang -The Many Mysteries of the Finkel Family by Sarah Kapit -Ivy Aberdeen's Letter to the World by Ashley Herring Blake -Hazel Bly and the Deep Blue Sea by Ashley Herring Blake -Written in the Stars by Sarah Allen -Breathing Underwater by Sarah Allen -Almost Flying by Jake Maia Arlow -Glitter Gets Everywhere by Yvette Clark -Other Words for Home by Jasmine Warga -All The Ways Home by Elsie Chapman
Love this video. If you start reading a middle grade let’s do a read along / spoiler reading Vlog? Just an idea. I say read along so we can read the book too and then we can watch your reading Vlog. Assuming it will take a month to read 😆
Have you read 'A Snicker of Magic' by Natalie Flloyd? She also has a mermaid book called 'Silverswift'. They're really good, though I have to say I enjoyed 'A Snicker of Magic' more. I've had my eye on Nevermoor for a while but haven't picked it up yet. Also the mermaid one you mentioned I think is on my TBR, but not sure. I will have to check them out.
Recent MG recs: Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky by Kwame Mbalia (Rick Riordan presents). It’s about a Black boy encountering characters from West African mythology and African American folk heroes, and is a little heavy as some of the things, like “fetterlings” which are living shackles, have horrific real-world corollaries. And Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation by Stuart Gibbs. It has Artemis Fowl 12-year-old criminal genius vibes but is set in the real world, with puzzle-solving and historic-site hopping that make it feel like a middle grade Dan Brown. Both published in 2019.
Ah see I struggle with the "child-goes-up-against-a-god" trope. All the other Rick Riordan's I've tried just haven't worked for me :/ Ooh but Charlie Thorne and the Last Equation sounds right up my alley! Thank you!

Of course! haha
Casually adds these to my list, because 2021 is my MG year.

Do you have any recommendations for fantasy? I know Keeper of the Lost Cities is a big one.
I love the Nevermoor series, the Winterhouse series, anything by Natalie Lloyd, and The School for Good and Evil series!
All of these going on my TBR
Hi me

Thanks for interacting--I was binging your videos!! @@LindsayPuckett
Every book I make is supposed to be for adults but slowly turns into middle school books.
haha sounds like a good problem to have!
@@LindsayPuckett lol
Yassss all the middle grades!!!!
always! haha
is there an app or some tool that will review my book text to see the language is appropriate middle grades (8-12 years old)?
I haven't heard of one if so. Beta readers are excellent for this though!
Anything for boys?
@@TDP-w3j any of them! 😊
