I think it's pretty solidly middle grade. Both by the ages of the characters and the content. For the younger set though, those who have moved out of chapter books though. I consider them the dip-your-toes into horror books for kids. They are a good litmus test for a kid being ready to read "scary" stories too. I say this as an adult who has never actually watched a horror film.
I wrote a spooky middle grade book that has tons of violence as well as language and drug use. it's called Spooky Stories to Haunt Your Dreams.

Another great video! Do you consider goosebumps more chapter books or early middle grade? Doing research for a new young horror series.
