These 1.9s sound surprisingly good, honestly. I have a friend who drives a straight-piped Mk 4 with the ALH engine, and it actually sounds really good. He's working on getting a proper exhaust to really dial in the tone.
Just a machinists tip for measuring the distance from top of the piston to the deck with calipers, use the front of the calipers, instead of the depth-gauge... U can use the bigger surfaces on the front of the calipers (exactly opposite to the depth-measuring-rod) to measure shallow depths much more reliably...
Hello mate, i just use it to get a near reading as i always install a 3 hole gasked, but just to make sure its not over the 3 holes size i use the caliper.

Hello mate, i had @330hp and @600nm before to change the new ported head from veicomer with same turbocharger, so now it should be @350 wheel hp, i'm gonna do the measures after i do the DSG conversion in May as after upgrade i broke the manual gearbox wich is very weak on the 4th gear so that 4th gear gone now, and decide to go for dsg, ive got everything now bought just need time to do it, so in May hopefully ill post a full dsg conversion video.

why did you take measures of the piston rings? i have seen it many times on other rebuilds but i dont know why. If it is out of range, do you replace the rings or something?

@cleophaschisale1255 The assembly lube i use is just to make it stick on the block until i install the crankshaft. I haven't lubed it on the wrong side. I just don't lube it, as there is no pressure on the axial bearings. Once you start the engine, the oil takes three seconds to lubricate them, so don't worry. The engine is fine and it won't be affected.

Hello, the head bolts were gresed with arp assembly grease wich is special for that, and the gasket i oiled with engine oil just for a better contact, its not necessary but i like to do it as i feel better in my mind 😅
@@WRCgarage one of my friends also lubricates the gaskets with oil, but not with engine oil, but with transmission oil. he says that in this case it is easier to clean it off when removing it
To be honest i never had any dirt left on the engine when i removed one so it may be a good point, but i do it with new engine oil just because in my mind it feels that it has gonna be a better seal contact when i tighten the cilynder head.
@CompressedSoup It doesn't matter wich one you use as long as you use some lube, the oil it's a bit thinner than assembly lube and you oil it just to go through easier.
@@WRCgarage darn that's a first for me... i presume you're referring to classic "puck" style lifters? If so, have you had any issues with noise or wear? I'm sure you're aware that PD's eat away at their OEM tappets over time and that can be accelerated by increasing power. I don't want to bombard you with too many questions but I'll try to keep it short and direct. Have you had any issues with Injector lean? And by that i mean the injector wearing out it's factory seats, I've heard countless people struggling with the same issue and no one can really figure out a non invasive "fix", people just usually replace their head.
Hello, i haven't had any problems by now with the mechanical lifters and they sound really nice, the injectors aswell ive had no problem with the wearing seats but ive heard people having that problem, i suppose that happened because of bad installation not a factory problem, there are still people who reuse the old bolts and not tighten enough to avoid breaking them wich causes the injector wearing, this is my opinion
@@WRCgarage thanks for getting back to me! as for Injector seat wear I've only ever seen it once on a BLS and it was quite bad, i think it might have to do with setting the torsion value with the cam gear, while changing the timing belt many people forget or don't know how to set the torsion value on these engines and that's pretty crucial for adequate longevity and performance.

May I ask what is the knocking sound after you turned on the engine. Something similar is happening to me but only when the engine is cold. And when either I rev it up to 1500 rpms lets say, or let it warm up a bit it stops. What can be the cause of it.
@pezo-je-bog That may be the dual mass flywheel that gets broken and makes noises. The single mass doesn't break but makes noise all the time at the gears.
Hi, 😅 yeah the noise is from the single mass flywheel, turbo is GTB2566VK, firad 120 injectors, pipercam 272° cam, ive got all these details in another video as ive got to redo the engine because i had to replace the machined pistons with stock ones because of white smoke and heavy start at cold.
Mate when you machine the pistons you decompess the combustion chamber and obviously the engine wont be able to make pressure as it should for burning the diesel, just go on my tiktok wrcgarage and you will se some videos before and after.
@@yorkshireman7025white smoke is pure unburnt diesel in a hot exhaust. I used to have a small diesel tank to pump diesel into my hot manifold to make a 007 smoke screen😊

Am multe clipuri pe canal numai cu 1.9 tdi toate operatiile cu cupluri de strangere si detalii, tachetii mecanici nu se pun pe un motor stock doar dacă il modificăm.
Hey guys,1.4 PD is literally a 1.9 with one cylinder take away so for the most bit the procedure is the same but there isn't as many parts available when it comes to going over 160 horses because cams are a ballache to get hold of.Other than that Firad injectors 50+,then ported head,custom manifold,hybrid turbos are available online,Cooler and map the same as 1.9 basically.I've seen one in the past rocking around 180 HP.Quite nippy but not worth the investment in my opinion as the engines longevity and mpg goes Down the drain.Better to swap for 1.9 or just get a 1.9 car.

you forget One uniqe step , you should hammer after Crankshaft bearing no.3 before right and left on Crankshaft and than give torque and angle on the screws ,... but nice video :)
Everyone thinks that but i haven't forgott, they are new they have 860 km on that new head with new lifters and new camshaft, i just took the lifters out for a modification and put everything back, so no reason for new bearings as they are new.
I answered to another 50 with the same question, it would help me if everyone check the comments before, the oil is not necessary but i just do it because i fell that in that way will seal better but again its not necessary.

Salut, nu conteaza daca bagi ulei in ei sau nu, daca nu bagi este posibil sa se auda tacanit la relanti la prima pornire pentru câteva minute pana se incarca ei de ulei, daca totuși vrei sa bagi, dupa ce ii scoti pe cei vechi afara pui ulei in locaș acolo puțin iar pe ei la jumătate ai cate o gaurica si pe acolo pui cate putin ulei in timp ce apesi in interiorul lor pe acel pin si se vor amorsa cat de cat, dar in general eu pun doar ulei in locul lor înainte de montare dupa care ulei pe ei de jur imprejur la montare si nu am probleme.

Salut, depinde de motor si ce vrei sa schimbi la el, nu stiu la alte motoare pentru ca nu ma pricep decat pe 1.9 tdi pd, dar in jur de 3500-4500 lei costa toate piesele de calitate buna, poti intrar pe autodoc de ex si iti bagi masina ta si cauti toate piesele le bagin in cos si vezi estimativ.
Only on restoration projects do engines get rebuilt nowadays, everything else is recycled or new if you can afford it. Warranties would never pay for this level of rebuild
Salut, încă nu am pus-o pe dyno pentru că după 300 km a crăpat cutia, am făcut swap la DSG și sunt aproape gata și o să fac după, oricum undeva la 350 aproximativ.
Yes they been brand new changed in the same time with new camshaft, but i had to take out again the camshaft after few miles because i needed to regrind the mechanical lifters as they were scratching the camshaft, but yes they were new.

Just normal engine oil but you dont have to, the tightening pattern is same, the studs in video are special studs for racing, they must to be greased

That thrust bearing was lubricanted on the wrong side,wen that crankshaft rotates no lubricant against the crankshaft

Sunt ARP2000 din America comandate, la noi nu se gaseste decat ARP8740 Chome Moly care sunt mai slabe ca ARP2000.

@evgenvw951 Hello mate, i always clean well the cylinder head and engine block surfaces but i like to oil the gasket because i fell that will make a better seal when i tighten the bolts, i know it it not necessary to do that but it's not wrong aswell if you do it.

Am multe clipuri pe canal numai cu 1.9 tdi toate operatiile cu cupluri de strangere si detalii, tachetii mecanici nu se pun pe un motor stock doar dacă il modificăm.

Hey guys,1.4 PD is literally a 1.9 with one cylinder take away so for the most bit the procedure is the same but there isn't as many parts available when it comes to going over 160 horses because cams are a ballache to get hold of.Other than that Firad injectors 50+,then ported head,custom manifold,hybrid turbos are available online,Cooler and map the same as 1.9 basically.I've seen one in the past rocking around 180 HP.Quite nippy but not worth the investment in my opinion as the engines longevity and mpg goes Down the drain.Better to swap for 1.9 or just get a 1.9 car.

Hi, they are special made they not come as a kit like all the others wich ar weaker chrome-molly 8740. Just go on the website where i get them and order from there, they dont have these anymore due to cost of supply but they have even a beeter one stronger than these for same price so just go on website Whitbread performance llc USA and buy from there.

Sunt noi, tot motorul a avut 860 km nici rodajul nu il facusem, am schimbat pistoanele alezate cu altele stock, cuzinetii la axa nu sunt uzați nici măcar nu si-au făcut fata pe axa, nu am schimbat axa ca sa schimb cuzinetii ei avand doar 860 km de cand i-am montat noi. Credeți-mă ca stiu ce fac si nu este vorba de bani aici, dar când nu este nevoie nu se schimbă.
you forget One uniqe step , you should hammer after Crankshaft bearing no.3 before right and left on Crankshaft and than give torque and angle on the screws ,... but nice video :)
Everyone thinks that but i haven't forgott, they are new they have 860 km on that new head with new lifters and new camshaft, i just took the lifters out for a modification and put everything back, so no reason for new bearings as they are new.

Why smear oil on head gasket?
I answered to another 50 with the same question, it would help me if everyone check the comments before, the oil is not necessary but i just do it because i fell that in that way will seal better but again its not necessary.

Salut, nu conteaza daca bagi ulei in ei sau nu, daca nu bagi este posibil sa se auda tacanit la relanti la prima pornire pentru câteva minute pana se incarca ei de ulei, daca totuși vrei sa bagi, dupa ce ii scoti pe cei vechi afara pui ulei in locaș acolo puțin iar pe ei la jumătate ai cate o gaurica si pe acolo pui cate putin ulei in timp ce apesi in interiorul lor pe acel pin si se vor amorsa cat de cat, dar in general eu pun doar ulei in locul lor înainte de montare dupa care ulei pe ei de jur imprejur la montare si nu am probleme.

La ce suma ajunge recondiționarea unui motor? Nu de alta dar am unul de mazda 1.6 benzină ce trebuie oarecum recondiționat deoarece era pe GPL iar la cilindru 4 deja pierdea compresie. Ma interesează sa stiu daca se merita sau nu. Mulțumesc anticipat!
Salut, depinde de motor si ce vrei sa schimbi la el, nu stiu la alte motoare pentru ca nu ma pricep decat pe 1.9 tdi pd, dar in jur de 3500-4500 lei costa toate piesele de calitate buna, poti intrar pe autodoc de ex si iti bagi masina ta si cauti toate piesele le bagin in cos si vezi estimativ.

Salut, încă nu am pus-o pe dyno pentru că după 300 km a crăpat cutia, am făcut swap la DSG și sunt aproape gata și o să fac după, oricum undeva la 350 aproximativ.

Yes they been brand new changed in the same time with new camshaft, but i had to take out again the camshaft after few miles because i needed to regrind the mechanical lifters as they were scratching the camshaft, but yes they were new.
