      The fact that even at the BEST in his career he isnt having a better season than West or Harden and Kawhais team has 60 wins while he is avg comparable stats to LBJ while being the favorite to be DPOY. Even at his best they have inferior records to 2 of the MVP candidates and may not even finish first in the east but Bronsexuals get to make up their own stats. Its the 2016-1017 MVP not lifetime achievement award

    • @AnthonyMcNeil
      @AnthonyMcNeil 7 лет назад +3

      Rayshawn Hampton What are you even talking about? Nick clearly gave you stats that showed that the Cavs are worse without LeBron than the Spurs without Kawhi. We may all have our different interpretation of the MVP but it's clear that LeBron's value is one of a greater importance. You can disagree, fine. Nobody is taking away from what Harden and Westbrook are doing, my comment didn't even mention them. It's clear you have a different view of the MVP and that's fine.

    • @rayshawnhampton8273
      @rayshawnhampton8273 7 лет назад

      Your comment was people cant handle facts, which facts though? How is Lebrons value than a 56 team win with no All Stars or a OKC team where russ accounts for over 50% of their points. He also used a direct comparison of statistics between Kawahi and LBJ but if you did the same exact thing with LBJ and the other 2 then doesnt that show LBJ isnt better then the other 2 guards. Its unfair to say Cle is x-x without LBJ when they rest him and Hou and OKC dont rest Harden and West. Men lie women lie but numbers dont, in the 2016-2017 season he isnt the most valuable player

  • @Qichar
    @Qichar 7 лет назад +36

    I'm not a Lebron fan, but even I have to give it up to Nick here. Lebron SHOULD be the MVP this year. Let's run down all the major ways we measure this kind of thing:
    1) Take Lebron off the Cavs? They're a lottery team. This is not speculation--they were a lottery team before he returned to Cleveland. You can't count Love because HE CAME TO CLEVELAND TO PLAY WITH LEBRON. Kyrie wasn't enough to bring the Cavs to the playoffs.
    2) Leadership? It's Lebron hands down. He's even picking guys to come play with him, and they are more than willing to come.
    3) Wins? Neither Westbrook nor Harden are going to be the #1 seed in their conference. We can talk about how much the Cavs "sucked" lately, but the fact remains the Cavs will be in this year's Finals and those other 2 guys will be home watching on TV.
    4) By the numbers? This is the only area where people might have a case. It's arguable that Westbrook and Harden are having better statistical years. But Lebron is obviously not trying to pad his numbers like Westbrook and Harden are. And he's not that far behind... 26 8 and 8? Pretty amazing. It's obvious Lebron is prioritizing winning a championship over padding his own stats. Since every coach and GM in the league have stated that is their goal too, I can only assume that a player with Lebron's priorities is more valuable to his franchise than, well, every other player in the league.
    So why are we putting 3 or 4 guys ahead of Lebron in this MVP discussion? I don't even like Lebron, and even I have to concede that of course Lebron is the MVP this season. And yes, averaging a triple double is amazing but is anyone really going to try to convince me Westbrook is more valuable to his team than Lebron is to his? Just the difference in +/- alone should inform us better. No, let's not be silly here.

      @TB-vw2nb 7 лет назад +2

      Qichar the Cavs are waaay better than the thunder or rockets without the three were discussing. In fact I believe the Cavs are in the playoffs with a 4-6 seed, and if they didn't get love they would have Wiggins who most people would agree is even better. rockets and thunder are left with rosters full of role players

    • @suntansuperman26
      @suntansuperman26 7 лет назад +2

      Qichar No just no. The fact that both Harden and Westbrook are dragging their teams to the playoffs with no other all star putting up better numbers than LeBron should be enough.

    • @Qichar
      @Qichar 7 лет назад +1

      Let me put this in perspective for you guys. Pretend we are all GMs in the league. You guys can have Harden and Westbrook, and I'll take Lebron.
      That's how I define value.

    • @ytsmokes1606
      @ytsmokes1606 7 лет назад +1

      Qichar lmao we talking about this season

    • @Qichar
      @Qichar 7 лет назад +1

      +Carlos Delgado
      That's exactly what I'm talking about--this season. I'm a GM, I want to win a championship this season, I'm taking Lebron. Not Harden, and DEFINITELY NOT Westbrook.
      Westbrook isn't the guy who takes your team to an NBA Finals and wins it all. He's the guy who reverts to hero ball under pressure and shoots your team out of it. These are FACTS, not opinion. These are things Westbrook has done, and KD saw, and that's why KD is in Golden State now. How many years was KD going to sit around waiting for Westbrook to finally figure it out? And watching Russell play, he's improved in this regard but he's still not there. I think OKC's record this year shows this.
      Harden's defense has improved, but it's not anywhere near like Lebron. Sorry, but the game is played on both ends of the floor.
      Lebron is bigger, he's stronger, and he's just as fast as the other two. If Lebron doesn't chase down Iggy last year in the finals and swat it from behind, Golden State repeats.
      Lebron? He makes the right basketball play no matter what, no matter how much stupid people want to crucify him the next day in the media. That's why Lebron has 3 rings. People talk about how he has lots of help, but they don't factor in the fact that other players want to play with Lebron. They want to play with him because he helps you win the most of any other player in the NBA. He's the MVP.
      I realize the award is sort of like the Oscars, where they kind of spread it around. I get it. But Lebron is still the real MVP. Maybe we should re-name it "Player with best stats who hasn't won it a lot lately award" and then yeah, it's not Lebron.
      By the way, completely unrelated, I really don't like Lebron. I just can't deny his basketball performance this year.

    • @marktheshark2569

      Samuel Afewerki no way he was the best player for that long. U typed that comment 3 years ago meaning it was about 2017. U said “Lebron has been the best player for 10+ years”. That means you’re saying Lebron has been the best player since at least 2007. Let’s see, there’s a guy named Kobe who went to 3 straight finals and won 2 of them right after 2007. Do t think Lebron was the best player then. Then 2011. Has the biggest meltdown by a player has good as him in the finals. Don’t think he was player then. 2012 is when u definitely ha e a legitimate argument that he was possibly the best player in the league

    • @cgip1340
      @cgip1340 4 года назад

      Mark The Shark 2 so who was the best player in 2011. Even with the finals meltdown he still was by far the most talented player in the league. And he was better than Kobe in 08 09 but he didn’t have the squad that Kobe had. You can argue Kobe was better but he was also playing with better players undoubtedly

    That "total wins of opponents" argument is sooo flawed. The west is indeed tougher. You have to understand that western conference teams play each other wayy more times during the regular season then they play the east. So you can't draw a correlation from the win totoals. You think the raptors were better than the thunder last year because they won more games?!!.....Nick, please. Stop it.

      Noel Aito that's correct, but with that logic the better East teams should have more wins from beating up more frequently on weak east teams. theoretically it can be a wash. I do believe the east is weaker, but the takeaway was the Cavs road to the finals wasn't as simple as it appeared in comparison to the warriors. the warriors could've had tougher opponents, but luckily avoided it.

    Things LeBron fans say:
    "Who cares about the regular season? It's all about the playoffs."
    "Westbrook's stats are empty, wins are what matter."
    "LeBron is having a career year in rebounds and assists; he should be MVP. In fact, he should be MVP every year."
    "The Cavs regular season record doesn't matter since it's all about the playoffs."
    "The Warriors played easier competition in the playoffs the past 2 years going off regular season wins."
    "I don't care about what Harden or Westbrook do in meaningless regular season games."
    "How could you watch LeBron last night and not give him the MVP?"
    Now, I don't necessarily disagree with all of these, but it's literally impossible to logically agree with all of them.

      I disagree with the Harden westbrook meaningless game one and the one about watching lebron and not giving him MVP and the career year one but you have to admit some of westbrooks numbers are empty he consistently pulls down 4 or 5 boards a game that his teammates already have basically and the regular season really doesnt mean much aside from seeding. For example the Mavs the year they were a one and lost out the regular season really meant nothing. Its about getting hot at the right time

    MVP does not equal best player, ffs... People like Nick, Colin and Shannon does not get that people aren't saying that Westbrook is better than LeBron, because he is not... People want LeBron to be better than Jordan but he will never be because Micheal Jordan is a Mt. Rushmore athlete. Lebron took himself out of GOAT conversation when he mentally broke down in back to back playoff years. Against the celtics then against mavericks in the finals. I mean all people have to know is facts. Like people like to say Jordan didn't do good in the playoffs his first 8 years. But I never hear people say the fact that LeBron didn't make the playoffs his first two years when Jordan did. You just have to know facts.

    • @connorsmith6517
      @connorsmith6517 7 лет назад +4

      Alphonso Bruton when Jordan made the playoffs his first 2 years his team never won more then 35 games. The east was extremely weak. Also Lebron went to the playoffs in his 3rd season and took his team all the way to the finals. At the age of 21.... MJ couldn't even play in the NBA till he was 23. And MJ didn't even make the NBA finals till he was 30. Also MJ is 1-9 in playoffs series without Scottie pippin. Michael Jordan lost in the first round 7 straight times. Lebron has never lost in the 1st round. Shut up

      Connor Smith why so sensitive!?! Learn to have a debate without using ur emotion because it makes you look silly. Like I said all you have to do is know facts. MJ beat the cavs and pippen didn't do well in that series at all. Micheal once again had carried that team. As a matter of fact everyone knows that MJ made Scottie Pippen the player the player was. So the Scottie Pippen argument is a fallacy. Secondly you never refuted my statement on why LeBron James shouldn't be mention the GOAT or in the conversation. Because you have no comeback Jordan has never had a mental breakdown in a playoff or series Lebron has. Overall this conversation about Lebron vs MJ is like in football Jim Brown vs Emmit Smith. Jim Brown will always win the argument because he is a MT. Rushmore athlete

      john amos Lebrons 2012-2013 MVP season is miles more impressive then what Westbrook is doing. Lebron averaged 29/7/8 on 56% from the field and 40% from 3, all while leading his team on the longest win streak in NBA history in 27 games and also finished 66-16. This year Westbrook is averaging 30/10/10 on 40% from the field and like 30% from 3. Is going to set a NBA record for turnovers in a season with 450+. While being the 6th seed and not even gonna win 50!games. Also KDs 2013-2014 MVP season was better then Westbrook this season. Lebrons 08-09 season was better then this Westbrook season. Hop off west brooks nuts he's overrated. Lmao he averages 7.7 uncontested rebounds. The guy doesn't even play defense

    Gsw can only play in front of them. I agree with these guys on that both teams have really had easy playoffs run But like I mentioned we love to predict and when you do it is harder for gsw then it is for cavs.

      Remember, he's using these "facts" to support his OPINION, his opinion being that Lebron should be the MVP and everyone else is crazy for thinking otherwise.
      What we're saying is he's being selective with his "facts" and leaving out vital information that would discredit LeKing. He's also bringing up stats that aren't relevant at all to the current MVP race.

    It doesn't matter if he's averaging his career stats. Giannis from Bucks is averaging his career stats and is a leader in every category on his team. Is he the mvp? I don;t care that it's your 13th or 5th year in the league. We are not talking about the legacy, it's all about this regular season. James plays crazy minutes against Orlando and Indiana, everyone is glorifying his effort and if he sits down games against actually strong, competitive teams he gets a pass because he doesn't care about the regular season? I like Colin and I appreciate James but no way Lebron is deserved to be an MVP. How can you signify his stats when he plays with Kyrie, Love or even Korver. You take JR Smith and put him on Thunder he's arguably the 2nd best player.

    Man Lebron's game last night was a classic Lebron game. Very reminiscent of 2012 ECF Game 6, where everyone was saying Lebron was challenged and on his heels, and Lebron comes out and just rips the heart out of his opponent. I'm a huge fan of the Raptors, and I remember last year the Raptors came out with 2 straight wins. People began believing that Raptors could really threaten the Cavs, and then Lebron just dominated them in the last two games. I mean he definitely is older, but it's crazy how at times he can just turn up his game a level. Can't believe at age 32 with and in his 14th season he's averaging about 26-9-9 on nearly 55% shooting. Probably the best season by a 32 year old in league history, even if the Cavs are performing a little below expectations as a team.

      those were facts ,yea it's true ,but his whole perspective is false ,for example he used the Wins and losses to compare some east teams to west teams,so according to his brilliant logic last year's raptors were better than the thunder or the Hawks Were stronger than the Blazers's team last season .
      Those facts would also lead you to think that Lebron's defensive impact this year (if there's any ) is superior to Kawhi's ? or that the Cavs aren't underachieving comparing to the standards set by a champion team ? they already lost 27 games and some of those were blowout ,so they are underachieving .
      the last point I want to throw out is that take Lebron out of the Cavs argument and they'll be a sub 30-win team .Well by no means is that true ,actually the Cavs can't win without him because they are so poorly coached on both sides that their whole offense depends on him ,whether it's penetrating and kicking out to shooters ,leading breaks ,scoring and so on.. they also are a mix of players who can't defend .
      NIck Wright was throwing misleading facts .

    James is the best player but he is not the MVP this year and I LOVED LEBRON. Sure Lebron has career high in some stats but so does Russ and Harden. Russ and Harden have turnovers though..... Yes and so does Lebron. He has a career high in turnovers with his best team on paper of his career with a top 10 player of the league on his side plus Kevin Love and a great bench. Like Broussard said if you missed games to be in shape for the playoffs because you think that the season don't mean anything, don't expect to win a REGULAR SEASON AWARD. Also, please stop with the minutes of James, he played less minutes overall than Russ and Harden. It's way easier to average these stats when you never play a back to back.

    In my eyes Nick Wright is THE BEST sports journalist outthere

  • @mula00
    @mula00 7 лет назад +3

    Its funny how Nick Wright always finds stats that fit his argument. Lebron has averaged 30 or more points per reason twice. Jordan's done it eight times. And his third season after breaking his ankle his second season he averaged 37.1. The only time Jordan averaged under 25 points per game was his second year when he played 18 games and the Wizards seasons when he was 40 years old. So what's his point? So what Lebron averaged 25 points per game in thirteen straight seasons. Does that earn him anymore rings? And for the record the guy who averaged over 25 points per game 12 times is Allen Iverson. What's he got for it? Tim Duncan's points per game career average is 19. But he has 5 rings. So what's Nicks point? That Lebron can score? Kobe could score and he has more rings than Lebron. Shaq could score and has more rings than Lebron. don't give me frivolous stats. If that's the case, here's another frivolous stat. Robert Horry is a seven time NBA champ!

    • @Zasaramel
      @Zasaramel 7 лет назад

      If rings are the only thing that matter when deciding who the greatest of all time, then Bill Russel is the undisputed king at 11 out of 13 seasons. Rings are impressive but are not the only thing needed to be taken into account when trying to determine greatest of all time. For that we would need a lot more to debate on but in terms of automatically disqualifying Lebron from the conversation because he doesn't have as many rings is just short sighted.
      When it comes to the MVP race, they are only arguing how absurd it is that Lebron is not just 4th in the list but about who is ahead of him and why. Either numbers matter or they don't, either team record matters or it doesn't, and either intangibles matters or they don't. If numbers don't matter, then it's either team record or intangibles. If its intangibles then I would say it's either Lebron or Westbrook with Lebron the front runner because while the Thunder wouldn't be relevant without Westbrook, they aren't exactly competing for a title. If team record matters, then Kawhi Leonard or Steph Curry wins due to their records.
      Now if it's a carefully weighted balance of all 3 then you have to put Lebron ahead of Kawhi Leonard at minimum and he has to be in the talk for MVP alongside Harden. Everyone wants to give it to Westbrook for the triple double without giving the true context as to why he has been able to get it and making claims that someone who hasn't been trying for it, is averaging 25 - 8 - 8 and somehow couldn't manage to get 2 more rebounds/assists if he truly wanted to? That's absurd. It's just disrespectful to put Lebron so far out of the MVP talks and it's obvious how much of a popularity contest it is and how it's not really about who the most valuable player truly is.

    • @mula00
      @mula00 7 лет назад

      Bryan Point taken. I wasn't referring to the MVP race though. If that's the case then yeah, I agree with you somewhat. Jordan could've or should've rather gotten it every year. He was that valuable to his team. And we see what happens to teams when Lebron leaves. So I'm with u on that. And I wasn't just referring to rings and rings alone. If that's the case, Horry has seven. What I was saying is what's the point in having all those stats if at the end of the day they get you nothing. The warriors went 73 and 9. What did they get at the end? And so often I hear Nick say, well Jordan at the beginning of his career couldn't get out of the first round. My argument against that is, does it matter if Jordan didn't get out of the first round but Lebron went to six straight finals. If you lose in the first round or in the finals, you both get the same prize. I guess what my complaint is, I dislike when someone is prisoner of the moment. Lebron is an all time great. No disputing that. But let's not act like he invented basketball. And as far as Bill Russell. When he was winning rings there were 8, 9, 12, and 14 teams in the league. Meaning for his first couple of rings there were 8, his next few 9, and so forth. And his team was stacked. He had other all stars and HOF'ers on his team!

    • @dannyblau3850
      @dannyblau3850 7 лет назад +3

      No. Playing the warriors on Christmas day was meaningful when they won. It was meaningless when they played a couple weeks later in January. According to LeBron and a lot of the media earlier this week and even yesterday, Cavs/Celtics last night was a meaningless game. Now that Cleveland won though, it's super meaningful. Nick Wright is kind of crazy. There is just no argument for LeBron to be the MVP this year and there shouldn't be. He is not the MVP this year and the only reason his name is getting mentioned is because he is LeBron. He wasn't and isn't focused on trying to have an MVP season nor should he be honestly. If the dude is trying to win a ring, he has been to 6 straight finals and knows being in the East there is a high percentage chance he is going to his 7th straight. Can't really be wasting energy trying to be an MVP if you are shouldering that amount of basketball. The whole thing that oh because they won, it was super meaningful is as absurd as a few guys this morning saying that just because they won last night they have flipped a switch and are totally fine. No, they have been playing pretty awful basketball now for a looong time. To go deep they are going to have to rely on LeBron far more than they should realistically be having to rely on him to do that and this year it's not going to be the complete cakewalk it was the past 2 years.

And oh yeah Kawhi has been a much better defender this year and has more steals and less TO's. Also a far superior record with much less help

      The Cavs have 2 other hall of famers on their team. If you replace the Lebron with an average SF. The are fighting for the 4-5 seed.
      Keep and mind the 5 seeds best 2 players are Dwight and Milsap and the Cavs have Love and Kyrie
      If you take Kawhi off the Spurs, they are barely making the playoffs if at all.
      Keep in mind Lillard and McCallom are to all star deserving players and the Spurs would just have Aldridge who's worst than both of them arguably

  • @Fj3

    I don't question the GOATability of LeBron, and Nick Wright does a fine job of promoting that, but I think aside from overlooking the part that the West is indeed tougher, he missed the two most important things that make Kawhi more of an MVP candidate than LeBron this year:
    61 wins (with 0 all-star teammates this year) vs. 51 (with 2 all-star teammates, in the East)
    and defense.

      First of all this conversations is not about him being the GOAT, second both of these 2 agree he is not the GOAT, while they do agree he has the potential to become the GOAT. 3, you can't knock a man for making it to the finals and losing considering it is the hardest achievement to accomplish in basketball, something that most never do. MJ struggled for years to get out of the first round. I'm not saying he's the goat, and he likely never will be, but to see the growth he's had from tha miserable performance to now is the greatest 6 year stretch ever by an NBA player, last years finals you saw the greatest performance in the history of the finals against one of the most dominant teams ever. I dont understand how you can't enjoy LeBron James, a once in a generation and a top 5 all time player

    Not to be nitpicky but the graphic at 5:30 is incorrect with the team placements by year. The 14-15 should be where the 15-16 teams are for the Cavs, and the same for the Warriors, aside from the Pelicans

  • @NathanRice
    @NathanRice 7 лет назад +8

    Every single one of these "facts" are just begging for context.
    13 straight seasons at 25+ppg
    Streaks mean very little. MJ only played 14.5 seasons, never more than 9 consecutive. Oh, and he averaged 30+ ppg in 9 seasons. Can LeBron say that?
    Career highs in 14th year
    Arbitrary focus on 14th year. High school draft inflates this number. Also, what point is he trying to make? That LeBron is at his peak at 32? So what?
    "Woefully underachieving to the 1 seed"
    The Cavs were #1, but finished #2.
    25 - 8 - 8 on 55% shooting
    MJ scored 32.5ppg on 54% shooting, and shot way fewer shots in the paint, and he grabbed 3 steals a game. Advantage MJ.
    The East is as strong as The West
    Comparing win totals for opponents of 2 teams is the definition of cherry picking data. The Warriors have avoided difficult teams, but there ARE NO DIFFICULT TEAMS in the East. You have to go to nearly the 5 seed in the West to find a team with a worse record than the Cavs, and the Cavs are the overwhelming favorites in the East. Oh, and Western conference teams have to play a larger percentage of their games against Western conference teams. This is just crazy. Stop it.
    LeBron should finish ahead of Kawhi for MVP (because of stats)
    Per 100 Possessions, Kawhi beats LeBron in points, FG% at 5ft+, FT%, 3PT%, blocks, steals, and has fewer turnovers, and Kawhi's plus/minus is better than LeBrons. (all according to stats.nba.com). Nick's plus/minus math is, again, calculated based on what makes LeBron look the best.
    LeBron shooting 55% is unbelievable for a perimeter player
    He actually shoots a shockingly high percentage of his shots within 5ft of the hoop. Like, nearly half. Kawhi only shoots 25% of his shots within 5ft. LeBron can hardly be called a perimeter player. Kawhi's jump shot percentage is 44% compared to LeBron's 38%.
    LeBron does/doesn't play enough
    Total strawman. People are confused by LeBron sitting out games to "rest" while he plays big minutes in blowouts. This is a legitimate question, and it's dumb to say it's not.
